If you don't play guitar you could mistaken him for being better than he really is. I'm not saying this in a negative way, but he's just not there with

    John Frusciante
    Jimi Hendrix
    Derek Trucks
    Warren Haynes
    Jake Cinninger
    etc...

Don't get me wrong here though, he is still great. He would blow me out of the water anyway...
And before his first step... He's off again...

Don't even get me started on the problems with the above list :p! As many people have stated, this "greatest guitarist" thing is just sooooooooooo subjective. Glad to see Tommy Bolin mentioned, though!

Mike is easily my 'favorite' guitarist but he is not in my list of top all time 'elite' guitarists. It also depends on what you are referring to? As a rock guitarist or overall?? As a 'living' straight up pure rock guitarist he is up there with the best.

    My top 5 are

    SRV
    Marc Ford
    Hendrix
    Jimmy Page
    Frusciante

Tell me where Mike McCready fits in your list of top guitar players of all time... And why.

Dont rag on each other, Im just curious to hear others opinions.

Here's my list right now... It does change often.

    1 - Mike McCready

2 - Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge)

    3 - Brad Paisley (Solo)

4 - Mark Kendall (Great White)

5 - Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society)

    6 - Brian May (Queen)

    7 - Jimmy Page

    8 - Eric Clapton

    9 - Joe Walsh (Eagles)

    10- Ritchie Sambora (Bon Jovi)

I know the intent is not to 'rag' on anyone and i apologize if i come across this way, because that is not my intention, but how can you have mccready at number one and SRV not even in your top ten. I mean pretty much all of mikes solo's on black were direct rips from SRV. Mike is the first one to put his hand up and admit that. McCready was so heavily influenced by SRV.

I guess i'm just curious is all. Definitely not looking to rag on you. I know everyone has different opinions on this.
  • McCready is the new TEN FINGERS OF DOOM!!!!!
  • Mike's top's, then Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Adam Jones, Stone Gossard, Eddie Vedder, Prince, Robert Johnson, Keith Richards, a lot of favoritism going on here as you can see, lol

  • My top ten would be

    1.Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains)
    2.Mike McCready (Pearl Jam)
    3.Joey Santiago (Pixies)
    4.Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins)
    5.Kim Thayil (Soundgarden)
    6.David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
    7.Neil Young
    8.Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)
    9.Aaron Barret (Reel Big Fish)
    10.Ian MacKaye (Fugazi)

Just really my taste, I don't think their best guitarists I just enjoy how and what they play.

Mike Is a great guitar player though

  • How about Greatest Guitar Tandem?

    Keith Richards and Ron Wood
    Keith Richards and Mick Taylor
    Duane Allman and Dickie Betts
    Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks
    McCready and Gossard

That gets McCready in the top five at least
