Remember the NRA slogan....people kill people..guns don't kill people.

this type of talk (religion doesn't kill people, people do) is all semantics, and taking away from a serious issue facing the world.

Then show me a single case where a religion has killed anyone. I'm pretty sure there's always a person doing the killing, usually with a weapon created by science.

    semantics.

religion is the driving force behind what is happening today, as well as the crusades, holocaust, and countless other atrocities.

and what you say effects us; our freedom of speach and the freedom to believe what we want. thus you have answered your own question of why wars break out over religion. oppression is met with violence.

i have absolutely no problem with people praying around me, or saying God Bless you, or even hanging up the ten commandments outside a courthouse.

BUT, if you can't show preferential treatment to one religion. once you open Pandora's box on separation of church/ state, it will be too late. Christians can;t coem whining that muslims are praying in schools, or Johova's Witnesses are walking you kids high school campus. Or Scientologists preaching from the courthouse steps.

christians can't have their cake and eat it too. they should be careful what they wish for!

pray before you go to pulblic school...pray before you go to the publicly sponsored ball game...and don't force your values on me...see we're on the same side....I'm all for religion if it makes you a better person...just don't force me or my family to llisten to it...very simple really...

now the truth...not for you specifically as I don't know you...but for the masses of Christians in American..they want to make this a Christian country and will impose thier christian values, thoughts and traditions on as many people as they can...covert....thats the problem.

They want to impose their values only to the same extent that you want to impose your values. The only difference is that non-religious people jump up and down and chant "Seperation of religion and state" while demanding that their values are adopted.

Debating the actual merits of the values doesn't seem to register with many people any more.

To the heart of my post.....and I am one that jumps up and down when forced to listen to voodoo (-: don't force your ramblings on me. Also when my freedoms are limited....due to the insecurity of others...well I'm jumping jumping.....(-:

Also.....about people like me.....you can do what ever you want in you house...as long as it doesn't hurt other people..go at it....thats not the case with the "other side". Again not directed at you...but...my fellow Christian Texas neighbors...yes. Hell we still can't buy beer before Noon on Sunday...and no liquor....just a couple examples......their values forced on me.

    Peace.

Well unless you are for a complete free and open economic and cultural system you probably want to force your values on others. Wether it be demanding that Wal-Mart pharmacies carry the morning after pill. Or legislating a speed limit on city streets. We all want to impose our values on others. It's just sad when the finger is only pointed at religious groups for doing this, when we all do it.

  • look at the Hindus. Hinduism has only done good for this world. No wars or terrorism has been carried out in the name of Hinduism. The Hindus are a whole lot of god fearing honest people who live and let live. The other major religions might do well to take a page out of the Hindu text book.

I think if the 'values' have a logical reason for being there then it is completely different. Logically, speed limits keep us safer. Logically, the morning after pill can help ensure not getting pregnant when it's unwanted. Religious beliefs like don't kill and steal also have logical reasoning but these beliefs that are simply based on faith and have no logic have no place in our law books. Those are left to the believer to follow if they choose.

Oh, you mean like laws that are made to specifically target one company and not based on any proven ideaology. Like the ones targeting Wal-Mart and their health plans for employees.

I do agree that the Hindus have been involved in some incidents, but they haven't gone out of they're way or launched into a whole war for religious purposes. Even back in the 1400s, Hinduism was spread by peaceful means. Very rarely have Hindus fought to convert people or persecuted people because they have been of a different religion. Also, the essence of Hinduism is that there is no religion, only one god and we all follow him whatever way we chose.

Yeah, I definitely agree! I'm an atheist because of the exact thing you say in your first sentence. Human beings always need an explanation for everything and if they don't have one, for example for the origin of the world or what happens after you die, they'll create there own.
I also think that most extremists use their religion as an excuse for what they do and that they'd find another excuse if there wouldn't be the religion.
Not religion is destroying the world, human beings are.

true true...but I think you can draw a line between speed limits and limiting what I drink and when in my own house...and who I'm boinking....(-: you know what I'm talking about....and it can be defined and moslty clear...really.

People logically need health insurance. You can argue about Walmart needing/not needing to provide health ins. for their employees but the need for affordable healthcare isn't just something people just pulled out of their ass.

    yeah, same here...

True...maybe some people only do things like blowing themselves up (wow, I had to look that up and there actually was written "to blow oneself up" in the dictionairy...sad world...) because others tell them to, promising them that they'll go to heaven or that there families will have the possibility to live a better life afterwards...

right, and the people using it in the wrong way are using it to facilitate the destruction of the world. i agree that 90% of religous people are good, peace loving people. But the other 10% is taking control.

  • I think that religious people are very happy because they found peace in a way; they are not troubled with various thoughts like ''Why am I here?, What's my purpose in this whole mess we're living in?'' But on the other hand there is a danger when that ''non-wondering'' becomes a stupidity of telling other people how to live by their rules...it becomes apsurd - their fixation with their beliefs that they think are 100% true just because of a fact that they believe in it. Believe what you want, whatever fits your mind & soul but please don't rub it on my face. oh yeah and; 1 single person does not and cannot represent the whole group of people, that are just human prejudices.
