why is it destroying the world?

the extremist factions of the religions in question (jews, muslims, christians) have taken over and are leading the world into chaos.

i'm sick of hearing Chrisitans hear talk about "those crazy muslims" while their leaders refuse to admit global warming is real.

and i'm sick of muslim leaders saying the pope should step down (or be killed) for what he said when they preach nothing but hate for other religous groups.

and I'm sick of the Jews and their "what about me?" attitude when it comes to their oppression of Palestine.

i've fucking had it!

I do not have a very favorable opinion of religion. In fact, I think that it could be the undoing of the human race. That doesn't mean that I don't believe in God...I totally do...just that I think that all religion is a lie, and that's why you see so much suffering surrounding it.

God...Allah...they are all alive and here right now. You won't find them in a book, church, mosque, or religious exercise. The harder you look for them there, the farther away from them you will get.

That is what the vast majority of people...hundreds of millions the world over...just don't get. Religion cannot prevail, because religion is not God. Wars fought over religion are really just wars that humans would fight anyway. religion is only the excuse.

christians are the cause of global warming?

    Esther's here and she's sick?

hi Esther, now we are all going to be sick, thanks
  • relgion is destroying the world; extremists are destroying the world

extremists see their religion as the only way to live life. religious/spiritual people see religion as a guide for living life.

right on. by using the "excuse" of religion, people can't argue. its like "well shit, if its for god..."

religion is just a form of control, and has divided people for thousands of years. and here we are on the brink of world devesatation, and all because religous groups can;t get along?

    mind blowing!

I'm right there with you. I believe in my personal faith in God... not in the religions that Man created in His name.

I see the other poster's point, though ... It is not something about Christian doctrine that causes people to deny global warming. It has something to do with our society ... Capitalism? Ignorance? Ditto with the Jews "poor me" thing you identified. I happen to think that they have a point, mind you, but regardless, they don't act that way because they're Jewish. The political and social situation causes them to act this way, not the religion, necessarily.

And the point about Islam? Maybe there's a stronger case for a religious cause there. Or, maybe it says more about some of the bigots who practice it. Islam can be practiced in a tolerant fashion.

I think the intentions of Religion are well meant... it just seems to drop the ball in its execution. Leaving the interpretation of the Holy Scripture to a few seems like it opens the door to corruption. That is how an Ayatollah Khomeni can hi-jack a sect... how a David Koresh can warp his followers and how a whole bunch of people can follow Jim Jone's lead and drink the Purple Kool-aid.
Maybe, God and Jesus and Mohammed would be better served if we all just read our Holy Text and got the inspiration ourselves... not from the guy at the pulpit.
    ...
But... that's just me... and i don't expect anyone to follow or listen.

That's a very strange comparison and I fail to see the relevance.

religion isn't destroying the world, evil people manipulating it are.

you're equating muslim extremists who fly planes into building and riot after cartoons with leaders refusing to admit global warming? that's not a fair comparison at all.

when you read the bible from start to finish and view it in a economics point of view... in Genesis man is tasked to lord over nature.. then conquer lands and eventually build permanent structures for living & worshipping... offereing animals for sacrifice... evengilization: all these have sort of resulted to the colonization of the East and industrializing the East. what i've observed is that colonized places are the most over-developed & over-industrialized (with exceptions) in the world, and in effect these places' enviroment are destroyed.

Welcome to politics. Now take a side and shuff your beliefs down the other persons throat! :p
  • Religion has led to many negative cosquences, there is no arguement. Although to be fair it has also done a lot of good for the world. For example the majority of social entrepreneurs (entrepreneurs actively putting back into the community and not just money) are motivated by their chosen religion. One of my professors at university who did a great job in this area (and a very successful businessman) was motivated by his jewish faith. I"m of the opinion its a tool that can be used for good or evil, depending on the person involved.
    The wind is blowing cold
Have we lost our way tonight?
Have we lost our hope to sorrow?

    Feels like were all alone
    Running further from what’s right
And there are no more heroes to follow

    So what are we becoming?
    Where did we go wrong?
