The difference? It's not like he was smirking about the deaths he's caused.
Thanks for clarifying that for me. However, by profitting off of the current economic system in place, the evil CAPTIALISM, by using OIL, by "playing the game" isnt he and the band just as guilty of war profiteering as many here accuse anyone who is a republican is? I mean, he is PROFITTING off the blood sweat and tears of the poor. Many people pay for pj tickets with the small amount of money they have left after the republicans have robbed them of their right to be wealthy. And THEY profit from those ticket sales. Soooooooooooooooooo is this hypocrisy at its finest? Is this not the ultimate use of liberal 'logic' being used against them? Or am I just plain crazy?

what are you talking about...? I would think as a republican you'd be happy about this and celebrate it....you mention hypocrisy, I see you have that concept down...
One would hope you can see the clear difference between the "rants". But since your brains are only capable of liberal biased thoughts, you probably dont.
the difference is only a matter of degree.
im not a liberal. im a libertarian. i dislike the left almost as much as the right. the right only has a slight edge becos their policies intrude on my personal life more than the policies of the left, which only intrude on my wallet a bit. but both are equally deluded and inept. just ask el_kabong. im one of the most vocal and outspoken critics of anyone who thinks the US govt was involved in 9/11, just as el_kabong. ill fight to the death to keep religion out of government, then turn around and tear anyone apart who goes into one of those ridiculous "religious people are stupid" rants. im a man of common sense. and common sense says ed is a rock star with strong political opinions who was fucking around on stage (and probably being a little self-deprecating by playing up to the image people like you ascribe to him) and that you... well, have you ever heard ferris bueller's wonderful description of how uptight cameron is?

Wow, that's quite a pointed cut. You've convinced me. I'ma gonna leave this band behind like so many Whos (or is it Whose, or Who's, maybe Whoz?).
Except that, I don't believe Ed ever said he was a communist, or even that he hated every aspect of capitalism. You'll find that most liberals in America have a strong libertarian social streak, and tend towards an economic philosophy that could be described as 'capitalist means to moderate socialist ends' - i.e. spend the money here. Speaking of which, they tend to get upset when the government - in their name, mind you - goes around blowing the hell out of brown people for no good reason. Then, to add to it, fucking that up too - at the cost of billions and billions of our dollars and other's lives.
Also, it's a bit hard to get around these days without using oil (which is why liberals want the government involved in encouraging alternative fuels - after all, they encouraged the auto industry when they built our highways - and infrastructure can't be adequately managed by private industries). Saying you want other options isn't hypocrisy. Everyone has to live in the world provided for them. The best they can do is find a balance between what they can do and what they can change. Sounds logical to me. So, yeah, I'd call y'a crazy.
ok, much of this thread is border line retarded...i like the vu but lou reed was a complete prick...who the hell cares what political or other opinions artists have? seems the only ones so worried about ed's politics are some on the opposite side...
to save time replying to several of the idiotic replies i'll sum it up
ed is NOT the only political one...stone co-wrote bush leager, remember and has given a lot of money to liberal politicians, same w/ mike who had given thousands to nader and dean.
of course it's down to how YOU interpret the song, that doesn't mean that was it was about when written. i saw someone say ghost is a love song for crying out loud! pj is VERY socio-political, right down to their news letter, especially stone's contributions
insignificance can't be an anti-war song b/c a democrat was in office when it was writen??? are you serious? ppl would think i'm a liberal and yet i voted against clinton
what about undone? that's political 'and corporations rule the day...'
as for unemployable...ed introduced it in dc as when you get punished when you did everything right...it's about outsourcing and the fucking the lower classes are getting at the expense of the top.
so, sure, it could come down to how you personally interpret the song to mean...for that guy ghost is really a love song, that doesn't mean jeff didn't write it about out of check consumerism, does it? you can say porch is a break up song, but that's not what ed wrote it as.
and as for the songs don't outright preach gun control, atho glorified g is about guns, or argue for abortion...a song doesn't have to have those inane side topics to be liberaly biased.

And they put their money where their mouth is. The band has developed a Carbon Portfolio Strategy, where they put money into offsetting the environmental impact the band has when they go out on tour. Not to mention the fact that the packaging for the CDs is all recycled, recyclable material. Gossard talked about it in an interesting interview with Grist:
And although I'm embarrassed to admit that it took me so long, I've started making contributions for environmental offsets based on my use of energy in my home, my car, my travelling. I even bought those "green" lightbulbs. Not because of PJ -- I've been thinking about it for a long time -- but reading that interview brought it to the front of my brain.

doesn't feel that way right now. That's the hopeful
idea . . . Hope didn't get much applause . . .
Hope! Hope is the underdog!"
Of course Townshend likes the Republicans -- wasnt he arrested and investigated for child porn a couple of years ago?! GOP = Grand Ole Pedophiles.......

I may be the ignorant one here according to you so could you explain to me what a "chid" is ?? And if by helping them you mean looking at nude photos of them on his computer then you are correct.
Townshend's paper, which he once posted on his official web site, also notes that the "pathway to 'free' paedophilic imagery is--as it were--laid out like a free line of cocaine at a decadent cocktail party: only the strong willed or terminally uncurious can resist."
