Correction. They have the maturity of a liberal. Don't insult 7 year olds please.

    I stand corrected

I personally was never "done with pearl jam", as much as done idolizing ed. I went from a guy who loved pearl jam because of Ed, to one who loves pearl jam despite ed. DO YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE? Ed can go fuck himself, and his model wife, and his imaginary ideals, and his hypocrisy.

Go cry about the worlds problems to your model wife, in your suv, while flying in your jet, and tell me all about how YOU know how to fix the world. Right ed. And you idjuts lap it up much like the dittoheads do. You're just a different kind of ditto head, and all those sheep are pathetic. On both sides. So how many here are now "done with townsend" for his pro bush statements? How many of you only even fucking know who pete is because ED told you he was cool? Seriously, its so pathetic its amusing.

this si the guy labelling all liberals as more immature than 7 year olds becos his feelings were hurt by a dumb GOP joke? pot, meet the kettle.

i drifted from the who when they started selling their songs to anyone and everyone. i was never all that into them. no, i didnt know who they were until pearl jam, they were broken up before i was born. ditto for neil young. and many others.

the fact that ed is wealthy does not automatically invalidate his political views. fi that were the case, NOBODY currently in washington dc has a valid political opinion becos they're all richer than hell. so how can any of them have any clue what a good policy would be? it's so arbitrary.

How is Insignificance liberalism? It was written when Clinton was bombing Bosnia. Down is about fighting addiction. Anyone can have a drug problem. Unemployable is about someone loosing their job and loosing hope.. ALL of those songs could be translated by either side, with the exception of maybe Porch. Even when the lyrics of Bushleaguer are broken down, there's nothing in their that supports, abortion, gun control, ec. It's a song about political corruption.

There's a difference between having political views, and being judgemental. Ed does both. And all the while, lives in the lap of luxury, uses more fuel annually than any average american, etc. And the above rant you quoted was more to make a point than to voice my true feelings. Thanks taking the time to reply tho.

oh, you mean you used an angry provocative rant that you didnt really mean to make a point? isnt that what robbie did in the other thread that you claimed was so horribly and without class and offensive?

id like you to show me a quote where ed passes judgment on anyone for their political views. the only thing you can even try to stretch is when he said "fuck em" in response to people who bitch about his politics.

Social awareness does not equal liberalism. I am a conservative through and through, and I love most of those songs. Aside from spoken word bullshit and tiresome acoustics, I love most of the songs in their collection. None of those songs are songs that should only appeal to liberals. Aside from bushleaguer. (A song that even if you ignore the lyrics, is one of the worst pJ songs ever.)Do I need to remind you that very few conservatives totally approve of Bush? We simply know he's doing a much better job than anyone offered up from any other party could have ever done.

actually "fuck em" was meant to be towards the fans that dont agree with his political views

Ed's one of those open minded liberals Im always hearing about. Much like here, that type of liberal is often discussed, but rarely sighted.

He was joking. Couldn't you pick up the sarcasm? I don't get why people got offended.

methinks you have no sense of humor. do you not have any friends who think differently from you at all? do you not give each other a little shit for it? cos that's what ed was doing. if he hurt your fragile feelings... well, it's probably the liberals' fault for making you a panzy with their PC education.

I was offended at all. I could care less what his political views are. not sure how it was a joke though. he didnt laugh and quickly followed it up by saying, i can see where they're coming from though, after a awkward silence. no smile, no giggles. he sure did look serious.

if you havent noticed over the past 16 years of pearl jam that ed has one of the driest and most deadpan senses of humor out there, you're not paying attention. he no doubt added the second part becos he knew there would be people like you sitting out there waiting for any excuse to tear him a new one for his liberal views.

Conservatives are usually pro-war. Clinton was far from a leftist. Down is not about just about fighting addiction, he quotes Howard Zinn in it for christ's sake. Unemployable..."So this life is sacrifice to a stranger's bottom line" Capitalism usually mixes well with conservatism...which leads in nicely to songs like Bushleaguer. Things lefties are against and conservatives seem to overlook or don't see as all bad.
If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

See, thats your interpretation though. You're using generalizations like "conservatives are usually pro-war" and a quote from someone who is leftest, but doesn't necisarily say anything about their views in that particalar quote (I'm referring to the "you can't be neutral on a moving train").. Now I well know Pearl Jam's interpretations of their own songs and their liberal leanings, but others can easily grasp onto the lyrics and form their own personal interpretations.

For instance, I've always interpreted Porch as a break-up song..

What the fuck is this world
    Running to? You didn't
    Leave a message
    At least I could have
Learned your voice one last time.
    Daily minefield
    This could be my time
    How 'bout you?
    Would you hit me?
    Would you hit me?

    All the bills go by
    And initiatives are taken up
    By the middle
There ain't gonna be any middle any more
And the cross I'm bearing home
    Ain't indicative of my place
    Left the porch
    Left the porch

    Hear my name
    Take a good look
    This could be the day
    Hold my hand
    Walk beside me
    I just need to say...

    Hear my name
    Take a good look
    This could be the day
    Hold my hand
    Lie beside me
    I just need to say
    What can I take?
    I just want to be
I know that i would not ever touch you
    Hold you
    Feel you
    Ever hold
    Never again

Now I know what Eddie's said and protested from shows during the song, but none of those lyrics tell me a story of someone choosing to kill an unborn child.. I am pro-choice by the way.

Do you get what I'm trying to say?

Oh for crying out loud, not this again. I've been listening to the Who since I was nine years old, at which time Ed was, I believe, seven. I voted for Nader in 1996, which was four years before I ever heard Ed mention his name. Why do you assume that we got our political ideas from Ed, and not that we feel some affinity for Ed because he shares the ideas that we already had?

a bit of a berk fins? sometimes the guy's a right tosser. if it wasn't for the fact that i love to belt out pinball wizard, i'd pay him no mind at all. but then again who cares. it's not like we have to live with the man. it's the music that counts.

As someone that doesn't listen to the Who, does this mean I'm gonna haveta really not listen to them? Like super hardcore not listen to them? Maybe I should listen to their songs backwards in an effort to erase the times I heard them on the radio.

I guess now I'm also gonna haveta really not watch CSI, too. Not watching isn't enough - that's too easy. Really not watch, though.....
