RainDog wrote:Convenient you would think that now. Were you glad that the Republicans were able to make gains these last few years? You know they were able to do that in part by politicizing things like homosexuality and White House related adultery; not to mention religion. If they hadn't done that, this scandal might not be sticking right now.
So you're right, it probably shouldn't have been politicized - but it was a while ago. Reap the benefits, take the falls.
Don't worry too much, though. I fully expect the Democrats to screw this up.
I'm not Republican. I am a Libertarian.
The Republicans won the last election based on national defense, not gay marriage. They will win again if the Democrats don't come up with a better national defense plan than the "well anything has got to be better than what the Republicans have done" plan.0 -

But they got a good segment of their voters out with the help of all of the gay marriage initiatives they put in place in individual states.
I agree with the part about the dems coming up with a better plan... the "but he's not Bush" Kerry campaign was a failure, and avoiding the national security issue isn't going to work either. I think they have done a much better job this time around. The problem is, that as soon as they come up with a new wrinkle on national security, hack-jobs like cheney bring out the "cut and run", "defeatest" and "electing dems will get us attacked" talking points, when in reality the dems plans are not much different than what the generals and conservative (non-neocon) repubs are saying. My whole life

Maybe you should join the Democratic Party if you are so concerned about them. Perhaps you could join some sort of think tank.
I'm sure the top Democrats listen to Hannity, Coulter, and O'reilly to get their strategies, after all ...they are just trying to help.
"If a Republican does something wrong, don't bring it up!"0 -

And I'm not a Democrat, I'm a non-party independent. But, again, let's not play pretend here. I'm sure we both have chosen a major party we'd prefer to have in power.0 -

I think the platform of the Democrats saying they want to return the focus to the actual "War on Terror" then the dead end in Iraq will go over well with the soccer mom voters0 -
Did anyone happen to see the posts on the Page Alumni site? Is there a site that caches that site? On Sunday, only the site boards went down and the admin posted this on the front page. I saw it then but now it's gone.
"Welcome!
Because of the current situation. I am shutting down the board until I can provide a proper statement about my part in what has been going on. I appreciate your patience.
If you are the board administrator, you can log in below and begin setting up your new board."
Now it appears the site and the boards have been closed. I also wonder if the pages are posting somewhere else and what the poster's "part in this" was?

Milhouse VanHouten wrote:What about John Shimkus? He's the head of the Page Board. He found out about the emails, and chose not to inform Representative Dale Kildee, a Democrat who is a 20-year member of the Page Board. Would you characterize that as "playing politics"? Shimkus asked Foley about the matter, Foley assured him there was nothing to it beyond a friendly email exchange. Shimkus ordered Foley to cease the emails, and Foley complied, and that was that, apparently. Why didn't Shimkus purse the matter any further??
If I was John Shimkus and was told about the one incident with the page from LA, I would have immediately wondered how many other times it had happened. I would NOT have just told Foley to "not do it again" and then let it go when he promised that it wouldn't do again. How bizarre! I would have questioned Foley intensely about any past incidents. Then I would have felt obligated to do some sort of investigation - at least talk to his past pages. I think there was also some obligation to report it to an ethics committee or at least to other people on the page committee. Shimkus dropped the ball as he does on some many other things. The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals. Ghandi0 -

I've found the info now. Matthew Loraditch was the manager of the Page Alumni site and googling his name provides the story. There sure is a lot going on.Falling down,...not staying down0 -
Its only the Democrats that are twisting politics into this story right?
From Speaker Hastert:
"They don't have policy to talk about, so all they can do is jump on a scandal and inflame it. ... All they want to do is raise taxes." he said.
Can you make a more juvenile statement?0 -

Hastert's blaming Democrats, ABC News, George Soros, pretty much anyone except for himself and the rest of the GOP leadership.
TIME.com is saying that there are unconfirmed reports within Republican circles that Foley showed up at a page dorm drunk. Reports didn't specify when this happened."Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."0 -

Pretty meaningless when he follows it up with this: The congressman said during a speech Thursday, explaining "I haven't done anything wrong."0 -
one month until the republicans are out of control of congress and the investigations of bush can begin. THAT is when thing are going to get interesting!0

If Speaker Hastert was the paragon of virtue and integrity he claims to be, he would have called for a thorough investigation of the matter when he first found out about it two years ago instead of making a concentrated effort to find out as little as possible."Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."0 -

So would the Democrats who waited until now to leak it.0 -

Has anybody definitively proven that it was a Democrat who leaked the emails? I'm sure it was somehow Bill Clinton's fault. Maybe FDR and JFK had something to do with it, too."Of course it hurts. You're getting fucked by an elephant."0 -

Hey, I'm just trying to fit in on this board where it is a statement of fact that Cheney planned 9/11, Bush rigged voting machines, etc... The only difference is that mine is much more realisitic so maybe it can't be believed.0 -

I blame freedom haters, and those who hate our way of life...I heard plans are in the making for building a moat around Congressional Pages, as well as construction of a 700 mile wall...0
