How do you feel about the way the election turned out? What do you see happening in Washington over the next 2 years? Any race really surprise you ? Any random thoughts -- I'm just interested in the mindset of true republican backers.
i don't feel any different than i did the day before the election. what do i see happening in washington the next 2 years? not much of anything different. bi-partisanship bickering, that's all. i wasn't too terribly surprised with anything. i had a feeling the republican base wouldn't go vote. i'm not saying that's why the dems won, but i think it might have played a little into the results.
all i can say is ok, the house goes to the dems, we'll have to wait a bit to see about the senate.....whatever. i'm still going to go to work everyday to earn my paycheck to put food on the table and pay the bills. if, over the next couple years, the dems can prove to me that it's better with them in charge, i may change the way i vote. only time will tell.

As a registered republican, I couldn't be happier with what transpired last night. I almost puked as I found myself rooting for the dems, but I found a way to do it. I have been disenfranchised by the party which used to stand for my values. I'm glad they've been taught a lesson.
One of the greatest things about last night was the exit polls showing that scandal and corruption played as big of a role as Iraq in the way people voted. This SHOULD send a message, loud and clear, that the American people WILL hold you accountable for shadey, non-representative government. It shows that we aren't 100% dumbed down, hypnotized by FNC fools...we ARE paying attention to what you're doing in DC and we will judge you on not only your performance but your grasp of simple ethics.
As others have pointed out, we just witnessed the Dems succeed with a very moderate approach. Moderates are the key to our government being productive. On the other side, governorships were won by moderates like Arnold Schwarzenneger and Sonny Perdue. Both parties' strategists, at least in the short term, will push their candidates to play the middle in national elections. It may be difficult to tell on this board considering most peoples' views are skewed to the extremes on both sides, but the American people as a whole are very moderate. This means that we actually have a Congress in place, regardless of party label, who are actually representative of the people. This is great news. I'm excited to see what will transpire over the next few years.

I think the media will back the dems wholly so we will not get an honest picture of issues as they arise. Normally we would have about two months of love before we go straight to hell and bickering about how bad the cons are, but this is true even when they are in power so nothing should change there. Maybe cons will get a sympathy fuck for a few months.
Does the Iraq war change this dynamic because Dems now have a stake in the outcome?
Does Bush work better with an opposition party than his own? He only vetoed once...

Well, we know that Fox News won't back them wholly...their "fair and balanced" crew seemed pretty pissed off last night and didn't make much of an effort to hide it. Nor did the conservative dominated radio waves. So I assume you could only be referring to CNN, MSNBC, and perhaps the ratings-deprived network news wholly backing the dems.

I watched MSNBC and CNN and they were giddy, your point is????

Too bad more pubs couldnt admit to this before the election. I have respect for you to admit this. I almost puked myself when I heard Rush Limbaugh the other day say "I am so relieved now that the rest of us pubs dont have to carry the water for those others..." When 2 days prior he was building everyone of them up. As most pubs of todays world, he was a major hypocrit.

and have to say...I agree with 90% of the stuff....I was really suprised.
We (Us libs/Dems and you Cons/rep) just need a thread to discuss rather than attack. Do think we're closer on many issues than we admit (omitting of course moral issues).
Course I could be feeling this way now cause you know ...I'm now a "Soldier of Love"

I too feel optimistic for the future...well more optimistic than before.
Some Republican supporters act like really pathetic sports fans. Not all of them but there is this group. They feel the need to say their team is great no matter what. Kind of like those pathetic Raiders fans you'll see all dressed up and cheering when their team is down by 4 TD's at halftime. Is it that hard to admit that something you love isn't perfoming well? I don't have a problem with Republicans or Raiders fans. But at some point in the last few years they've both become a joke. Just admit you stink and move on. It doesn't mean you'll always stink and it doesn't mean that you don't have good ideas. It just means the guys playing for your team right now are making a mockery out of it. The more you support these idiots the worse it's going to get. Ten years from now the GOP will look back at Tuesday and realize how losing was actually for the best.

thats not what I'm getting from the republican posters on this thread....at all. which is way cool. Even my freinds that are republican/past Bush supporters are trying to see a silver lining here and accepting what happened.

I agree and I actually have a lot of Republican friends. I was just referring to a small group. You probably wouldn't find many of these idiots on a PJ board. Try a Toby Keith board and I bet you'll find a few hundred. In the end I think Tuesday brought this country closer together than it's been since 9/11. Pelosi and Bush sitting in the same room and not yelling at one another. No way that could have ever happen without Tuesdays results.

see what your saying.....we do have a special group of republicans on the board..have to admit....drink a beer with any of them.....course If we did ever get together...have to seperate Robbie. (-:

lol, of course we have to accept what happened. did you expect whining and stomping feet like children when they're told they won't be getting desert? to me, it's not earth shattering or life changing events that have happened. all it is is people with new jobs that i'll never have any communication with. as i said before, i'll continue to go to work, earn money, and pay bills.

Unfortunately, I don't think that much is going to get done within the next two years. Democrats have small majorities in both the House and Senate, but not enough to get legislation passed with a 2/3 vote. There were a few Dems elected with some conservative views, which is a posivite for conservatives out there. President Bush has the power of veto. The only way to get any type of legislation passed is to have Dems and Republicans work together, creating bipartisan legislature (which may not be so bad). Dems will most likely waste their time trying to impeach President Bush instead of trying to "fix" the country from the apparent doings of the Republicans. All in all, it looks gloom for the next two years.
