Cut spending....quit throwing $ away...(yes, including Iraq). I serously think we should take the printing of money away from teh government...privatize it...that way, maybe they stop spending so damn much.
Oh, but wait...it's much easier to just raise taxes...and disproportionately on the 'EVIL RICH'...let's just do that.
your boys had 12 years to do that. dont bitch about how irresponsible the dems are when it comes to spending.
Certainly it's better to admit you fucked up than to pretend you didn't. But I'm not sure how an apology cuts it here, considering the levity of the issue.
well it shows a willingness to make an effort to correct the mistakes. again, the republicans are still pretending they never made any. who do you want in office? someone stubbornly clinging to direction the world knows is wrong, or someone who's not sure where to go yet but is willing to try something new?
I agree 100%. As a Republican, I'm actually kind of glad to see the Democrats in control of something so as to keep some form of checks and balances in place. Other than that, unfortunately, I predict we will see two years of stalemate. By this time in 2008, we will still be in Iraq and Bush will not have been impeached. Honestly, what reason would there be for an impeachment? WMDs? Please. This country has been led to believe for 15 years that Iraq was a nuclear threat. 9/11? Again, put down the bong. My hope is that after this election, the Republican Party will either realize what they have become and make the changes necessary to return us to the party of Lincoln, or, enough of us will be disenchanted enough with the Republican Party to join the Libertarians and make something of a viable third party. It was definitely time to clean house, so let's get to the 1st of the year already and see what our Congress will do for us!!!!
This is an excellent post. I'd very much like to see Republicans return to their political principles as well. Unfortunately, I doubt this will change anything. The positive changes I hoped for in the Democratic party did not happen in 94.
Both parties seem very content with running on the other's failures.

I'll bitch about it all I want...I also bitched about the republicans spending too much $....I'm an equal opportunity bitcher when it comes to someone else spending my $.

I certainly see your point and I'm not disagreeing. Obviously the person who can recognize a mistake is preferrable to the one that cannot. But neither, based on those descriptions, is necessarily qualified to fix it. And both, based on those descriptions, are still largely responsible for the situation in the first place.
They won with candidates that are very conservative (North Carolina 11, Indiana 8 for example) which is another defeat for liberalism. This is the ultimate battle, not between Republicans and Democrats, but between liberals and conservatives...and the direction that this country is going is clear.
What's going to happen when the far left of the Democratic party and the moderate, conservative wing sit down and talk about the issues?
Again, the election was a victory for conservatism.
sadly, you might be close there. the question is, what does conservative mean now? clearly, there's the social thing. but i think there's middle ground there that can yet be staked by either party. the question is, who's consider on the other fronts? is pro-war conservative, or is it isolationism (more traditionally conservative stance)? who's the more economincally conservative now? the republicans talk about lower taxes, but that seems the extent of their fiscal conservatism. i stil think we're seeing a massive shift in party bases in action.
i think the republicans are holding onto conservative social values, but the dems are becoming more conservative on all other fronts (or so i hope). it will remain to be seen how the parties act from here. i think for a long time the dems were losing becos they were perceived as being on the fringe of american views in terms of social issues (gays, abortion, atheists, etc). it seems the tables are turning though and the republicans are starting to be seen as a fringe party (extreme nationalism, military intervention, corrupt elitism for the wealthy). the repblicans either need to stop beating that patriotic drum so hard and return to reality, or the dems need to start working on their image on values.
I'll bitch about it all I want...I also bitched about the republicans spending too much $....I'm an equal opportunity bitcher when it comes to someone else spending my $.
cmon, you gotta give the dems credit... at least they're not pretending they dont wanna spend your money id rather know im getting fucked than have someone fuck me and tell me it's just a strong breeze.

ill grant you the second point, they all bear responsibility for iraq. i think it's a bit early to pass judgment on the first though. we dont know what the dems will do yet.

I see your point...BUT...
I'd rather have it be a surprise...wit the Dems I know it's coming, just not when, and I will worry about it 24 hours a day 7 days a week..freaking out,...waiting for it to happen. It ruins my entire day, every day.

ah, now you know what life has been like for me the last 6 years

I definitely agree on that one. The goverment of this country is supposed to be for the people, by the people. Instead, it has become one corrupt member after another and the people are the ones paying for it. I guess corruption is one thing our government is bi-partisan on. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this exact type of government the reason we went to war with England in 1776?
cant wait for those tax hikes..its good to know im feeding some crack addict living in NYC, when id rather they just die.
this is what I think will kill the dems. i'm afraid they could kill the economy. higher taxes kill everyone from consumer's spending habits to big business investment.
Wow I didn't win one election or initiative that I voted for yesterday. I'm not sure the outcomes of the judges I voted for, but the senate, house, and initiatives were all loses.
I am a little depressed about it, but the people have spoken. I think the one issue I really care about social security reform is now completely dead. I'm going to say good luck to the Democrats. I hope they can get some things done, and not waste their time on issues like impeaching the President. A complete waste of everyone's time and effort.

i think it's good to know my lifestyle has to be run by you to make sure it's moral, when id rather you and all people like you were dead so i could live in peace. yet i dont always get what i want. isnt that unfair?

I think fly is just curious whats going to happen now when Dubbya throws shit all over americans then tries to sell them the ointment to get rid of the flys. -"BM".
And let's not turn this into a insult/flame thread.
Fly isn't baiting you, he's (like myself) just curious to what you think
Lest I don't THINK he's baiting you. Fly's a cold blood killa though, so watch out. Matha Fucka was just talkin to me one day and this guy walked by and Fly was all like "BAM" and I was all like "What the fuck!?". I turned around and the dude was knocked out. I looked at Fly and was like "DDDDDUUUUUUUDDDDDDEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! What'd you do!?". He was all like "Dude. Matha fucka gave me the eye. I take none of that" I was like "Dude! what do you do to him?!" and Fly was like "I gave him my matha fuckin pimp slap. Faster than light and more deadly than a bomb."
i think it's good to know my lifestyle has to be run by you to make sure it's moral, when id rather you and all people like you were dead so i could live in peace. yet i dont always get what i want. isnt that unfair?
However, he was referring to someone taking governmental...ie.....the American people's $.
I think if you except tax $, you should not be able to just live by your own moral values anymore...you should have to meet minimal standards, etc...like illegal drug free...I know, I'm asking for the world here...

The people have to count and they clearly wanted change
And change is what they'll get
I'm not exactly crushed though - I was in favor of the Iraq war, but am extremely dissapointed in the way things have gone since we took over
Untill their will grows tired
Why?
Ha, nice.
or new jersey suburbanites, really:

cross the river to the eastside
Do we really need to do this AGAIN????????
There are probably 300 threads on the debate over the war - I'm probably in 25% of them , clearly stating my position.
This was supposed to be about our views on the Dems victory yesterday, and I'll choose to leave it at that
Untill their will grows tired
this is what I think will kill the dems. i'm afraid they could kill the economy. higher taxes kill everyone from consumer's spending habits to big business investment.
For years while they were out of power they whined about how they would streamline government.
For the last 12 they've done nothing but spend and spend and spend while growing the size and scope of government.
I voted libertarian, and I'm not sorry.
If anything the democrats elected may even be more fiscally responsible and that's saying something.
The minority leader could wind up being Pence and Minority Whip being Shadegg. Not a bad leadership.

not too bad at all. It could be a pretty good next two years.
Or some redneck Meth addict living in a trailor park some where in Tennessee.

Kinda like in 1998 huh?
Yeah, I would agree it was a waste of time to impeach Clinton in 98. Even though I thought it was warranted.
