    Crazy story.

    Maybe the attacker was a Christian Conservative who was upset with centrist McCain and the "B" was for "Better write in Huckabee"

    From the photo it looks like he was punching her with his right hand since the blows were on the right side of her face. And then he held her down and scratched a "B" into her left cheek backwards? Looks fishy to me...

    It is backwards.

    And it is very superficial scratches too.

    Look, what do I know, but this seems very odd to me.

    she has obviously undergone some sort of trauma, so, I feel bad for that.

    She was not "carved" ... looks like scratched, I'm not even sure if the skin was broke ... refusing medical attention is quite bizarre.

    I think she was beaten and robbed ... and that sucks and I hope whomever did it is found and arrested.

    But tying the attack to her McCain bumper sticker, and claiming a "B" is some how related to that ... seems, well ... odd.

    you know this photo looks a little off to me. The B is backwards almost like she did it in the mirror. I am a McCain supporter myself but I think there is something that we don't know about this story yet. If she got punched with a right and the guy scratched a B in her face with his right hand it would not be backwards unless of course he was standing behind her over top of her doing it.

    I am not a forensic expert, but the thing that seems more odd to me than the backwards B (or upside down as you point out) is that the scratches look very careful and superficial. A guy hurriedly carves a B into someone's face and doesn't break the skin? It just doesn't make sense.

    But who knows. Strange stuff happens. Maybe it's true.

    Exactly. Imagine how that would actually work for the attacker if he's right handed. So he must've been holding her head with his left hand, pushing it the right and then crossing over with his right hand to carve a backwards "B" into her left cheek (edit: her right cheek but on his left)

    Also, wouldn't the blade have actually pulled down on the skin? It looks like an awfully clean "B" at that...

    To be objective, I have to say there would probably not be this much questioning on this board if an Obama supporter had been attacked by some guy in Ohio or something. I don't think it's right to be jumping to conclusions in either case, however. Still, whether or not it was politically motivated, the story's already been framed as such now. We'll just have to see if it gets worse.

    When nothing else works there is always that black on white crime story. A new talking point, something to rally the people - Black man carves B on woman's forehead.

    not sure what i think about this story. too bad for the woman to get a beat down. and the B does look rather superficial wound to be done by a knife (unless it was a plastic knife).

    and all you guys calling it a "backwards B" - its all a matter of perspective. if the story is true, he was standing over her, pressed on her right cheek (left against the ground) and he scratched in a B right side up. imagine standing over her by flipping the computer screen upside down.

    PITTSBURGH -- A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, apparently because of her political views, police said.

    According to WTAE's news exchange partners the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Ashley Todd, of College Station, Texas, was using an ATM at Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street in Bloomfield just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday when a man approached her and put a knife to her throat.

    Police spokeswoman Diane Richard said the robber took $60 from Todd, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.

    The Tribune reported that Todd, who isn't familiar with the area, drove to a friend's house and together the pair located the Citizens Bank ATM at Liberty and Pearl where the attack happened and called police.

    Todd declined to comment to the Tribune. Friends said she is in Pittsburgh volunteering for the McCain-Palin campaign.

    Richard said the woman refused medical treatment after the assault, which happened outside the view of the bank's surveillance cameras.

    The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes.

    The Obama-Biden campaign released a statement, commenting on the attack. The statement said "Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman for her to make a speedy recovery, and we hope that the person who perpetrated this crime is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice."

    The McCain-Palin campaign also released a statement saying "The McCain campaign is aware of the incident involving one of its volunteers. Out of respect, the campaign won't be commenting. The campaign also confirms that Senator McCain and Governor Palin have both spoken to the woman."

    I bolded another thing that seems odd ... she wasn't familiar with the area, so, she hopped in her car and went to a friend's house, then went back to the scene, and THEN called police?

    I think I would have called the cops immediately ... maybe she didn't feel safe being there alone ... again, just a bizarre story.

    The bigger issue is the fact that it was so meticulously scratched. Was she unconscious when he did this?

    This is pretty crazy. I was fully ready to take this at face value until I saw that photo. If this is true, it's just as wrong as any robbery/mugging/act of violence. However, unless he was stealing that 60 bucks on behalf of Obama's campaign, it's not terribly relevant.

    If this is a hoax, it's even worse. I'd like to believe this is legit, because I really don't want to believe that ordinary people would sink to such levels. I don't care what side it represents. Should it turn out to be a hoax, I would hold McCain accountable- though he would then need to speak out against it only because she worked for his campaign locally. Otherwise it's a matter of one crazy supporter.

    I'm all for an American revolution, but it sure as hell shouldn't be along racial lines.

    I know what you are talking about, I am a McCain supporter and I don't know if I buy this. It is a terrible thing that happened to her but I don't know if I buy the "B" part of it. Is it possible? Yes of course it is but I am not buying it right now. Hell, Fox News just said that they can't confirm the story yet themselves. I will wait to hear what happens.
