I think the reason Mexico has never been developed is because it's just too hot. Have you ever been to Mexico? It's too damn hot.

Build a civilization? Fuck no, it's 103 degrees. Nah, I think I'll devour a mango instead.

  • So, Texas breaks away from Mexico because Mexico bans slavery and the Texans decide "well fuck that! we're going to keep our slaves". The crazy thing is, most of the slave owners came from the US and moved into mexican territory...then tries to break it off into the US. What would happen if a part of the US decided to break away because they wanted to do things differently (like...keep slavery)...oh...nevermind. Then shit gets even crazy when the constitution is abolished and a new one is brought up that brings up a more centralized power. Now, I'm not gonna argue with them being pissed about that. Fuck, I'd be pissed about that. So, Texas beats mexico and becomes the republic of texas. They teeter on eing fucked up and being really fucked up until the US steps in and tries to absorb them. Mexico is pissed. Really, why wouldn't they be? Obviously, they don't want texas to go to the US seeing how they refused to sell it too them yet it looks like the US is going to absorb them anyway. The US tries to clear Mexico of debt and even offer them a huge amount of money for the land but it ain't happenin. Mexico is going through some serious shit, and even IF the dude said "yeah, fuck, I'll sell that to you" it probably woulnd't have worked out considering just how fucked up the political climate in mexico was at the time. So this new dude comes to power in mexico and wants texas back, saying it's their territory, and that the US can just fuck off, mexico gonna get their land back. So, the US goes to build a fort to defend Texas. Problem is, they went with the Texans word on where the border was instead of mexicos, so to mexico they invaded mexico THEN proceeded to construct a fort that could be used against mexico! Mexico is screaming "WHAT THE FUCK". Here's the bitch with the border dispute. Some asshole HAD signed a treaty that proclaimed the border was where the texans said it was. Mexico's beef is that the dude who signed it was under duress when he was captured by texas and that it never flew with mexico anyway. So mexico said "hey, go over there. they're pretty much wrong". The US responded "Fuck off". Now, what happens next is when the shit goes bad for real. A 63 scout patrol stumbled on a 2000 strong mexican force that had been prepared for war. Since no one knows who fired first, it's really up in the air about who got the snowball rolling. So Polk really kicks in the ol' propaganda machine, making it sound like the US was standing in it's own territory, with its back to mexico and that them dirty mexicans had shot them in the back. Congress declares war. A lot of people thought this was fucked up but obviously, that didnt matter. Even then they saw Polk as a land stealing, lying, slavin motherfucker. Long story short, mexico loses, US wins, mexico gets a little money and the US gets a massive amount of land. In a nutshell, that is the mexican-american war.

Thanks for that veddurlution. Especially for putting it into simple terms that are easy to understand. :)

What's that quote? "History is written by the victors"?

This sounds just like a thousand other disputes over land that have gone on over the centuries. Well since history was written down anyway.

i think an intelligent person would recognise that most of us are busy so we use the shortest possible word usage such as ppl for people; IMO; and other abbreviations. my generation usually refers to britain as mother england.
you bug me too so everything is status quo.

england is a far bigger word than GB or UK...

    i'm glad i bug you :)

and Status Quo bug me as well...
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

    Sure, it's subjective.

When we still had more land my neighbour had to make a detour to get to his land, we said he could cross our land whenever he needed to. Then when he moved house and another person moved in, my parents didn't grant him access through our field because he was an asshole, he through his trash on our land...

So I'm just wondering why onelongsong did it.

    Hi Collin. :)

Don't you just hate neighbour disputes? Sounds like your second neighbour was an ass.
Our neighbour from hell finally moved after years of drama and toxic behaviour and didn't we all breathe a sigh of relief when she finally left? :D
The new neighbours mightn't keep the garden as neat, and they've got NO CLUE when it comes to rubbish disposal, but for the most part they've been a lot more pleasant and amicable to deal with. Whenever there's been a problem with our adjoining fence line they've always been a lot easier to communicate with. :)

the neighbor actually started it. he thought i was passing over his property and his attorney sent me a letter. i sent the attorney back a satellite view of the property from the assessors office and copied his letter to me almost word for word. his letter threatened to put a criminal tresspass on me and if i used my driveway again it would be a felony. while researching i discovered the adverse possession laws in my state and thought that was the best way to get even. i always get even. once i sent that letter; the neighbor couldn't use my driveway and thus couldn't access that part of his property. he didn't fight it in court because he knew he couldn't win so my only cost was the original pleadings. if you'd like more information i can dig up some old links.

have you ever seen this vast amount of territory? it's worthless. at least most of it is. worthless desert uninhabitable by humans.
but wait; let's look at all the territory england has conquered over the world. from india; to the falklands to austrailia. why don't we hear about this?
mexico is still an undeveloped country and the chances that they would have built hoover dam to bring water to some of this area are nil. the southwest would still only be area to pass through to get into the us.

sorry i missed most of this thread, but i just need to respond to this^

worthless? the American southwest? Texas to California? worthless? are you crazy?

just because i didn't bring it up in this disscussion is no reason to think I disregard British imperialism.

no chance that mexicans would have built the hoover dam? have you seen the Itaipu dam in Brazil? it blows away the hoover dam! how can you say that if the mexicans had the same resource they wouldn't have taken advantage of it.

well, mr. olav, as this thread has progressed, it may not have been OP's intention to talk about stealing land from indigenous...it may have been an eye catcher to discuss how to protect your property...

ols: thanks for taking a walk....it's not necessary to dig up links; i am moving slowly these days....so that people that like to get "even" don't wanna play hard ball with me..i am sorry for the turmoil you had experienced through this lesson, but thanks again for sharing....happy and lovely day to you...
