Palin's Speech

I find both candidates and both parties to be absolutely worthless. I wouldn't want any of these people running the Dirty Water Hotdog stand outside my office building never mind my country. When I start hearing a candidate talk about how the Federal reserve is damaging our economy, or how our interventionist foreign policy is putting to much of a financial burden on the American public, or how the federal government is acting outside of it's constitutional powers, or how we need to start thinking about we have created a dependency on welfare in many communities then I will start to give that politician some support.
I see where you'r ecoming from...you do come off as being pretty angry.
I hoep the republican party does shift towards you guy's points of view on many issues, partially because it's the right thing to do, and partially so you don't get an ulcer.hippiemom = goodness0 -

again - one speech can change 8 years of absolutely horrendous government ... pretty sad ...0 -

I know I'm pretty angry but a little fire in the belly is good, the ulcer not so much."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -
some clips from an email sent by David Plouffe. nice wording.

"Both Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin specifically mocked Barack's experience as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago more than two decades ago, where he worked with people who had lost jobs and been left behind when the local steel plants closed.
Let's clarify something for them right now.
Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies.
And it's no surprise that, after eight years of George Bush, millions of people have found that by coming together in their local communities they can change the course of history. That promise is what our campaign has been about from the beginning.
Throughout our history, ordinary people have made good on America's promise by organizing for change from the bottom up. Community organizing is the foundation of the civil rights movement, the women's suffrage movement, labor rights, and the 40-hour workweek. And it's happening today in church basements and community centers and living rooms across America."0 -

Look at the alternative. Who knows? It may have been even more horrendous. I'm not saying it would have been. I'm saying it may have been. Regardless, we are dealt with what we are dealt. As I said, I would be very surprised if a Republican won, not because of the party's platform or the idiosyncratic qualities of their candidate.... but mainly because of the phase of the business cycle that we are in and the fact that they have held control of the executive seat for two straight terms.
That's the point, my friend.0 -

You're missing the point, the real question is would a McCain/Palin administration be more of that 8 years or would it be different?
No one knows for sure.
The speech didn't change anything about the 8 years (thanks for telling me that, I could never have figured that out), it's about the future. If McCain/Palin are elected and everything stays the same, then the voters were duped...same goes for an Obama/Biden ticket.hippiemom = goodness0 -

I love the enlightened people with there great wisdom here...please tell us more oh wise one.
It's shit like this that really energizes people to vote, so keep it up and I hope the media keeps it up as well. Should be an interesting race.hippiemom = goodness0 -

LOL I know right? gawd his comment made me want to puke. people on message boards sometimes see themselves as gods. you really can become anyone you want. be above everyone. I would if its the same in real life.0 -

When people are so easily manipulated, seduced and stary-eyed over some bullshit speeches; and then they go around talking about it like they just saw god in their bowl of Cheerios. It speaks for itself.
You can twist all you want. But your great revelation over Palin says it all.0 -

It made you want to puke because you know it's true and that it benefits your party for everyone to remain stupid.
It's really no different than when you guys claim your party is the way to go and the solution.
The only difference is my perception ...."wisdom" doesn't tow your party line and I refuse to hand over the keys to the same partys that has been ruining this country, for so long.0 -

do you blow yourself kisses in the mirror? that is a serious question.0 -
so ... every 8 years they change everyone in the party? ... all the policy advocates? ... all the lobbyists that work with the party - all those people change too and their policies?
funny how mccain nor palin are looking to distance themselves from bush and his administration - in fact, from what i can gather - they pretty much have the same stance on the critical issues ...0 -

Because it's not the stance that a lot of people disagree with, it's the execution.
Anyhow, this is exactly why McCain/Palin ahve a large mountain to climb here...they need to distance themselves from the poor decisions of the previous administration and show that they will be different.
The truth is, maybe they won't be different...but maybe they will...hippiemom = goodness0 -

While his approach may have been a bit snobbish the message is accurate. McCain's own campaign manager even stated it when he said on Tuesday that this election will be decided by personality not issues. I mean how many times did we hear people say I voted for Bush because he seemed like a nice guy or he seemed like someone I would sit down and have a beer with, fuck the issues. I'm not trying to be elitist but the majority of voters are either to lazy to research the candidates, to apathetic or just plain stupid so they end up basing their vote on a few commercials and a couple of sound bits from the 6:00 PM news or some blowhard pundit on the radio/TV or what party they represent. I don't care if you are a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Socialist, etc... if this is how you decide on who to vote it is a disgrace.
We always hear about how our troops are fighting for our freedoms right. Well that freedom includes voting so don't you think we should respect that sacrifice by being a bit more diligent with who we vote for."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

What does it say?
By the way I saw your post about not liking any of these candidates...I also want to say that I'm still undecided. I was leaning Obama, but have to admit the Palin choice has me back at 50/50...I like the fact that she is a governer...I like the fact that she's not been in Washington politics...I like her stance on many issues...I wonder whether or not she can help bring the changes needed as VP...I wonder if once elected, McCain will simply continue the poor policies of the Bush Admin....I wonder if a McCain/Palin ticket would keep communication open with world leaders while still telling it like it is...
So, I like what I know of Palin so far. I look forward to the debates to see how everything shakes out when confronted on comments, not just making speeches.hippiemom = goodness0 -

I think they've made a calculated effort to play to the base...Steve Schmidt was in charge of Bush's 2004 campaign, that was centered on GOTV efforts by the "moral majority" (which is neither moral nor a majority, but I digress). I don't think it's quite so contained this time around, but they're not trying to hide the fact that they are running to the Right in this election. I would've thought that'd be suicide after eight years of Bush, but he is not doing terribly in the polls, so maybe it's not.
That's why if they win this election, it'll be incredible...
He's using the Bush team but he's a Washington 'maverick.'
They're out to reform D.C. even though their party has been in the White House the last eight years.
He's an independent but his VP is about as right as you can get.
Experience is everything except when it comes to McCain's VP selection.
Like I said, alot of seemingly damaging contradictions. I guess it's commendable if they can juggle them all, but I'm sure hoping they can't.0 -

Yep. Maybe the Obama/Biden ticket would be more like the Bush admin then the the McCain/Palin ticket.
The bottom line is no one knows for sure. However, you can make an educated guess that McCain/Palin would be closer to the Bush admin. That's fine. That doesn't mean much though. A lot of people in America are Republican.
I think the key obstacles McCain needed to avoid were:
1. Being grouped in as "another" Bush
2. Energizing his base
I know it's hard, especially on here, but if people are objective and take their partisan hats off for a second.... I think it's pretty clear he did a very good job of both at the convention.
1. Bush is not there
2. Palin boosted the energy
As I said from the get-go, he's still got a long way to go.... but, I was impressed with his political savy. In my humble opinion, this is now a real race. Before this week I thought the Republican ticket would get smoked in the election.0
