Hitler was a right winger with a few left wing/populist proclivities (populist provided the population was homogeneous and German). I've heard this "socialist" argument before, and it always leaves out the "National" part. He also believed in a society of classes as opposed to the classless one of traditional socialist beliefs.

Well I just got to work after performing my civic duty. Though I know the person I voted for, in the NJ senate race, has no shot in hell of winning I'm still anxious to see the results of the election."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0

again, sorry to bring the science back to this debate

i encourage you to find scientific evidence, peer-reviewed articles, anything, that supports the idea that embryonic research offers ANY hope whatsoever.
You and I both know that people who are against it are totally closed to the fact that it will work and are very caught up in the whole "taking of a life" side of it. I respect that. But I know from what I've read, and most recently, from a conversation I had with a heart transplant surgeon, that they show enormous promise. What the surgeon told me is that when injected into a damaged heart, the embryonic stem cells regenerate for only about 5 months, then stop regenerating and die off. They're working on ways to make them last longer. But to a person seeking a heart transplant, 5 months can be life or death.
If you chose not to believe embryonic stem cells will work, and don't find research to your liking, then fine. I chose to believe. If you want to debate stem cell research, then perhaps you should start a new thread on it."Where there is sacrifice there is someone collecting the sacrificial offerings."-- Ayn Rand
"Some of my friends sit around every evening and they worry about the times ahead,
But everybody else is overwhelmed by indifference and the promise of an early bed..."-- Elvis Costello0 -

You're the one who brought up the issue. now you don't want to talk about it? The better informed we are, the better. point me to scientific evidence that it does offer hope...even if it's in another thread. i'd be interested in hearing the evidence. I'm not just looking for research that backs up my side...hell, I didn't even oppose this until I read up on it myself.
Also, no, you and I both don't know that this is all about "taking a life" because I support embryonic research on those embryoes that are going to be thrown away anyway. what I'm opposed to cloning new ones to work on, especially if there's no evidence it will do any good.
Obviously, this issue is VERY complex and to boil it down to "Republicans are against stem cell research" is at best a ridiculous distortion, and at worst, an outright lie.And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things

Socialist countries become fascist or right wing because socialism DOESN'T WORK, and its what happens when you try to install a left wing socialist idealogue.America...the greatest Country in the world.0
