  • I completely agree.

Why doesn't PJ do what Ozzy just announced. Talk about a noble guy, this blows my mind.

they would have to sell alot more PJ socks before they could afford to do this...

I'd rather see them play the puppy bowl on animal planet. Anyone else watch this year's puppy bowl? Two of the puppies were a couple of scrappers who just kept running around and harassing the other puppies, who were too preoccupied with the chew toys and guarding the water bowls at the field goals. funny stuff...the water bowl cam..lmao.

I read that earlier and I can't wait to see exactly how they are going to do it. It will more than likely be a logistical nightmare. From a venue standpoint, free tickets are never a good idea, because you have no idea how many people are going to actually show up.

Budweiser was just an example. I got beer on the mind.

They could do like Gibson guitars or something, or any other product they regularly use to help lift the burden off of the people that made them rich, the fans, it's the least they could do.

If I can't weasel my way onto a guest list, then my work might hook me up with a ticket to a show for free, but occasionally (and more often now) I've been fitting the bill.

The average show I pay for is like 15-20 dollars before additional charges. I can't remember the last time I used ticketmaster, but ticketswest's surcharge is 5.50 I think. So I lied, I've spent 25.50 on a show.

And that's a pretty hefty surcharge for a 20 dollar ticket. I totally see where PJ was coming from with their fight against ticketmaster when they charged that much. What's the point now? They know people will spend their dough regardless.

this is hilarious. you bitch about pearl jam compromising their values then say they should hawk corporate gear to make your ticket cheaper. that's too funny. "they sold out"... i think you mean they haven't sold out enough for you.

ticketmaster is way more than $5 a ticket, and sadly, they have exclusive contracts with pretty much every venue a band like pearl jam is able to play. i know you think you deserve special treatment seeing as how you're a super-important radio dj and all, but im sorry to say, you don't. id pay $100 for a ticket before id see "budweiser presents... PEARL JAM!" they could have a rep come out during the encore and urge us all to grab 2 more before last call... ed could wear a budweiser jacket... stone could restrict his onstage banter to "damn, the palace brews a damn fine bud!" yeah, that's what pearl jam has always stood for...

but hey... tickets would be about $10 cheaper!

pearl jam will never be able to do a $20 ticket again. suck it up. they're not your pet hardcore punk band that nobody in this country gives a shit about paying to see. they're one of the biggest and most well liked and respected bands of the last 15 years, and they're going to play big venues that cost a lot more money to play in. deal with it. or stop going. i wont miss your whining.

It will probably be first come, first served at ticketmaster. For a small fee no doubt. And the kicker will be that the people who don't get tix will still be paying to a scalper to get to go.
You've changed your place in this world!

PJ plays a better show and puts more into each show then any band I've ever personally seen. They could charge us twice as much for tickets and it would be worth it but they dont.

I'm curious if this guy who's complaining goes to work for free everyday? I'm sure his job contributes to society in some way so way get paid for it. Do it out of the goodness of your heart. Walk the talk brother.

Geez Soulsinging, you gonna squirt a few tears for me.

Obviously I'll never be able to explain this to the likes of you. Take an econ class.

My sell out line to Illinoisemakers was an inside joke. Sorry.

Well maybe you can afford 100 dollar tickets, the average teenager can't. Read that like to PJ's statement again. Then read it again. And finally read it one more time. In your case a bakers dozen should do it.

Chin up kiddo, your fighting the good fight.

I do work for free. My station only has a few paid DJ's sadly I'm too new to be incorporated on that pay chart. But some freebies are nice.

I also started a non-profit that I spring for, out of my own pocket. And I'm volunteering for "Big Brothers".

So yeah, I do work for free. And it feels great.

I'm also betting that he never issued a statement saying he works for less because he knows his employers can't afford it...and then ask for a healthy raise. ;)

this was directed to sapperskunk, the resident whiner about how pearl jam has sold out by charging too much while demanding that they get corporate sponsorship to avoid selling out, which is ridiculous. also, pj tickets are nowhere near $100.

I'm in the same boat for my night and weekend gig in sports radio. "Oh there won't be much money, but you may get into a few sporting events free so I've got that going for me, which is nice."

It ends up being about 75 dollars per paid remote which can go from 2-4 a month usually. It pays for a few beers on the weekends. Thankfully my day job pays the real bills.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.
  • While I can see Sapperskunk's arguement that ticket prices are high, his premise is really a stretch. How can you compare Pearl Jam ticket prices to the Anti-Heroes, the Reverend Horton Heat, Girl Trouble or any other band you like. They are on total opposite sides of the spectrum. Pearl Jam's tickets are still below must if not all acts who are on their level. Lets look at a band you really like Divo. They are similiar to Pearl Jam in popularity. How much were their tickets when they played the Paramount last? I think they started at 50 and were as high as 75. When Girl Trouble, the Rev or the anti-heros sell millions if not tens of millions of cds and they continue to have $20 ticket prices we can have this discussion again. Until then your just comparing apples to oranges.
  • who pays your rent?

then whatcha whining about? those pearl jam tickets aren't coming out of your pocket anyway. if you're on a limited budget, you've got to make some choices. that's life. if pearl jam had to make a choice between higher ticket prices and corporate sponsorship, im glad they opted for higher prices. just becos YOU want them to do something different doesn't mean they made the wrong choice.

Your Devo argument is weak sucka!

How often do Devo play? Not often.
How many shows were they playing last year internationally? 20.
Did I go to that show? No.
    Did I want to? yes.
Did my morals and budget get in the way of attending that show? Yes.
Why would Devo play Bumbershoot? They wouldn't have been paid shit.

I didn't compare them to those smaller bands I like, I used those smaller bands as a reference for ticket pricing. I DID compare PJ to festivals like Warped tour or Ozzfest. Forget the popularity argument. It's about morals and hypocracy.

Check out Cincybearcat's assesment. It's perfect.

  • I wouldn't be pissed and i would watch, but it won't ever happen... Can you imagine "The Miller Half-Time show featuring Pearl Jam", just can't happen... Pearl Jam don't need that audience anyway... (well i guess)
