In your own words...."Protests are usually done by the fanatical fringe of either ideology. I don't really care too much what these folks have to say anyway." Hmmmm...ever think maybe there's an important reason as to why they might be angry? Or do you just write them off?
I already know what their point is. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize why some people agree or disagree with the Iraq war, or tax cuts, or abortion, etc.... A protest like yesterday's is not news.Abookamongstthemany wrote:Do you listen to PJ to hear their politcal views or do you put them aside to enjoy the music? Do you care what Ed has to say about current events?Music has more to offer than just opinions, so it can be overlooked to still enjoy the purely musical aspect of the band. Whereas reading and viewing news can't be overlooked because you like the sound of the words.
In my opinion you can't be a fan of Pearl Jam and completely overlook their political leanings. Some of their positions I support, while others I do not. For example, I support their views on the environment. I'm not exactly sold on the idea of global warming, but I do think we can and should do more to protect our environment. Ed's opinion on tax cuts and unemployment I will strongly disagree with. But no, I do not look to Pearl Jam for political or cultural guidance.0 -

If America really wanted an end to the fighting they'd stop sending israel tanks and missles.

Huge Israeli offensive launched
Despite UN agreement on ceasefire, 30,000 troops are now operating inside Lebanon

Israel was in the midst of an expanded air and ground military campaign inside Lebanon yesterday despite international agreement on a UN resolution calling for an "immediate" halt to a month of hostilities by both sides.
In the largest operation of its kind since the Yom Kippur war in 1973, the Israelis used up to 50 helicopters to land hundreds of troops deep inside southern Lebanon before dawn as part of the intensified ground offensive ordered by the Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, hours before Friday's UN vote

We will find out soon enough whether the resolution works. Please note that Hezbollah has also continued to fight as well. The US is selling Israel weapons to defend itself. Nothing wrong with that.0 -

Protest are done by those who feel passionately about their beliefs to get out and try to do something about it. If they aren't harming anyone, I say good for them even if I disagree...it's shows they are alive and their hearts are beating. Why wouldn't you care about what these people have to say? Is it only your view you care about? Could ever imagine someone else might know a little bit more than you from time to time? Are your beliefs so easily shaken that you close out what someone else may have to offer before even hearing it in the first place? How sheltered and closeminded.
It's funny. There were also rallies and protests recently in support of Israel. I didn't see them getting widely reported in the news, and yet neither do I see you bemoaning that fact. I wonder, would you make the same argument about the pro-Israel protests and rallies?0 -

Discussion and dialogue including ALL viewpoint should be included when reporting the news. How is it not news? It just happened yesterday...it could give others ideas about organizing and attending these kind of events to express their feelings on the matter. Just being aware that these events are going on could draw a bigger crowd or even just peak someones curiosity who may be undecided enough to cause them to look further into the matter. News is to inform people.bootlegger10 wrote:In my opinion you can't be a fan of Pearl Jam and completely overlook their political leanings. Some of their positions I support, while others I do not. So you can enjoy the songs you disagree with? Or do you feel you can't overlook the message in the song enough to get into it?If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

I definitely can enjoy the songs I disagree with. I enjoy the attitude in WWS, but I don't agree with the message.0 -

Hmmm....I don't agree with Israel's actions. Maybe you should post about it if it means enough to you. I would never argue your right to post what you believe in, I'll only disagree with you if I do.If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

You haven't answered my question. My question is if you feel that rallies and protests are so important for starting dialogue and presenting all points of view why is it that you have only pointed to such events that support your own politics? Would you say the same about events that support the other side as well?0 -

every single second of every day the israeli side it shown in such a great light on american news, now you complain that our side is not doing enough to point out more of their (israeli) story/protest.
check it out, anderson cooper is running with the israeli troops again, reporting more sad stories of the poor people of israel.
we are asking for a balance.0 -

From where I'm sitting I see just the opposite. The news is awash in pictures of dead Lebanese and the political realities and the history and the context of the entire situation, all of which are important to know to understand where Israel is coming from, have been lost. I see the news as being biased (though not intentionally so) against Israel. I guess it all depends on where you are coming from. Even so I don't see your point. If the news is supposed to report on everything so as to create dialogue and get people thinking why should only the side you support fall into this description. Everything means everything, and yet it seems that from where you're coming from everything means only what you agree with.0 -

Yes the news is showing quite alot of the destruction of lebabon, but at the same time they spin it into it being hezbollahs fault. They make it seem like israel is liberating lebanon or something, did'nt the news show the iraq war alot? does that mean the news was against the US or had a bias against america? of course not!0 -

but given their past aggression US law says it is ILLEGAL to sell Israel any weapons as well as give them any aid. given their secret nuke program and failure to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty US law says it is ILLEGAL to sell Israel any weapons as well as give them any aid. So it is still ILLEGAl under US law to sell these weapons to them.standin above the crowd

I would like to see those picture of the dead without the caption "Person from ::blank:: killed by missile fire". That way people would be able to see the victims of a war without oming to the conclusion "Forget it. Just more liberal propaganda" or "Forget it. Just more conservative propanagda." Once we get past thinking that everything is just more propaganda, then we'll be able to see that the victims of both of the Hezzballoh and Israel are just too much to ignore.0

Because I believe in those stances. Why would someone post about something they don't believe in/agree with? That makes no sense. It's up to the person what they want to support and bring attention to. A person is going to post what is important to them...what they feel strongly about. You can post events about what you believe in and we can discuss it all day long but don't expect me to do it all for you.If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.
