  • so because obama is ahead in the polls right now, if mccain wins then it's because the country is full of racists? honest question, not being a jerk about it. that's what i got from your response.

Well, people theorize that the undecideds will vote for the white guy simply because he's white.

There's no way to really know what goes through people's minds. I still can't figure out why you're a republican. :p

Is calling a woman a cunt worse than calling a guy a prick or an asshole? I don't think it is. Since when has cunt had a feminist bent? In my opinion, it's just a little more harsh word for when "bitch" just isn't enough. Speaking on behalf of the art of the English language.

Also, I personally haven't witnessed anyone calling her that name. So, I got nothing to defend as I haven't been witness to it. You given me the opportunity? Huh, I am not running for president and I didn't call her that name. So, I am not sure what you are looking for. I already said that it is not very nice. What more do you want from me man? No, calling a person a cunt is not equal to calling someone a niger.

there was a picture posted here a few weeks ago of a group of 4 or 5 people attending an obama rally with "sarah palin is a cunt" in giant black lettering on their shirts. just letting you know that it has happened.

I agree hate is a bad thing. But, you didn't answer my question. Cunt is a harsh word, but does it have different meaning from the word bitch or asshole? I don't think it does. Those words do not signify your hatred for entire race or population of people. Just your hate for that one individual. But racial slurs cover an entire "race" of people. Hence why they are so much worse.

Look at who your talking to, do you really think they want to acknowledge the difference?

i'm sure that's true, but you can't deny that there's probably black people that haven't voted before that will vote this time around because of the color of obama's skin.

and jesus christ, thanks for outing me! you have any idea how long i've gone without publicly posting my political status here? fuckin' liberal ;):p really though, even though i'm a registered republican, i still have no idea how i'm voting in this election. i think i said over at bannergy that i was going to write in jeb bush, but it didn't get any response.

I'm gonna have to defend Palin and say it's not quite clear what the woman shouted... and when you're giving a speech, you can be lost in your own train of thought and not really hear a random scream. I honestly don't think she stumbled because she heard and understood what the person yelled... it seemed like a normal 'breath-catcher' to me.

However, I have to get a dig in against her and say her rhetoric is total bullshit, and I think she's smart enough to know that it is.

    lol! Sorry. ;)

Yeah, I'm sure that's true about some black people getting involved with this election because Obama is black, but that's a population that traditionally skews democratic, anyway. The major difference this time is that maybe they suddenly feel compelled to participate because after centuries of marginalization, they suddenly feel inspired and hopeful about their future. I don't feel that's the same thing as a white guy voting for a white guy because he's a white guy, you know what I mean?

I'm surprised to hear you're still undecided, actually! What's holding you back from making the decision?

I just view cunt as a very harsh term for a woman that most women would find very offensive. It is also specific to her as a woman, and not as a person. Obviously it does not have hundreds of years of history like the N word.

Indeed. What if the person didn't say the N word and then Palin thinking she heard it started ripping into the crowd? Then she looks like an idiot again. She can't win.

lmao! :D Yeah, I always knew there was a bigot hiding under your nice guy exterior.

Well, Obama is part white. Go with him. ;)

Y'all know that there has already been a huge thread about this very question, right? (Except I think it was bitch instead of cunt.) I'm not trying to say you shouldn't continue your discussion here, but you sound like you might be interested in the other thread.

Andrew Sullivan has also been posting about this today. I guess after further listening they say she yelled "Redistributor" and I hear that now, too.

Plus, that makes perfect sense given the context of what Palin is saying.

I mean, we already know that at least half of McCain/Palin's supporters are racist. Let's not carry out a witch hunt when we already see them flying around on brooms.

I think this is an appropriate thread to speak out in, given the false outrage presented in this thread.

actually you should know me well enough by now to know i hate everyone equally. as dwight shrute said once "There's too many people, we need a new plague." (first time lisa and i heard that line, she looked at me and said "holy shit, that's you!")

honestly though, i really don't think i'll know who i'm voting for until i pull the curtain and flip the switch. hell, it might be "heads obama, tails mccain" in the booth.

It is specific to her as a woman, just as the word asshole or dick is specific to a man. Besides that, it doesn't imply a hatred towards all woman, just like asshole or dick is not indicative of a hatred of all men. Hence, not as all encompassing as a racial slur.

i have to disagree with "asshole" being a mens only term. i've called some women assholes in my life.

How can you honestly not know who you support? Do you not know how you personally feel about really serious issues? It is not as though the candidates are so close on fundamental issues that it would be a tough decision.

How the hell could you not know who you are supporting?

And I've called some guys bitches. That doesn't negate my point.
