It's an example of two things:
    1. That I almost feel bad for McCain because I don't think he has any control over these clowns coming to his events and spouting racism or stupidity.
    2. McCain's gonna win. The importance of race is huge but does not show up in the polls very well.
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.

    The Bradley effect.

SNL had a funny skit about this on Weekend Update with Jesse Jackson (well not him, but Darryl Hammond playing him) and he said that when they polled Caucasian Americans and asked if they would vote for an African-American for president, 84% of them said Yes. That is until the follow up question, "Really?" Then it fell to 35%.

That said, I hope this is not really an issue on voting day. If it is, then it will be true that this country is filled with mostly ignorant racial fucks.

We should not be surprised this anymore If this is still happening in 4 years then there's really a huge problem.

  • ok, ask yourself this. why would anyone lie to a pollster if they were racist and weren't voting for obama? it doesn't make sense...they would just say "i'm voting for mccain". there is no need for them to lie.

Exactly! It just doesn't make any sense. fivethirtyeight.com had an interesting look at the so called "Bradley Effect." Essentially, it isn't backed up by polling from recent elections. Also, there was no Bradley Effect for Obama during the primaries.

  • She would've gained some respect from me if instead of faltering she said something along the lines of "We do not need that attitude to help us succeed in the election. We do not need to attack a person simply because of their race because it's disgraceful and against what america stands for".

But I knew better than that going in.

Couldnt agree more...she obviously heard it. Disgusting.

I was actually surprised. I figured it either be in a group before she spoke or at the back of the arena, where there's no way it could be heard by her but sure enough, she heard it, stumbled on her words, and then just continued.

    ::sigh::

In contrast, Obama has totally taken the high road in this election. At the rally I attended this weekend, when people so much as booed McCain's policies, Obama quieted them with something like, "We don't need you to boo, we just need you to vote." And I didn't hear any more boos after that.

Wait - I just watched it - did she just say the government shouldn't move into a role as the other half of our families and make decisions for us and that they do this in other countries where the people are not free???

    Unfucking believable Ms. Anti-Choice.

(Sorry - I know that's not the main topic of the thread - just had to get that off my chest.)

Why God does he CONTINUE to let her run unchecked? I am pretty sure both conservative and liberal pundits have called her out on her lack of control and professionalism.

Um, aren't people smart enough to realize that ignorant fools yell stupid things all the time?
Either people aren't, and thus view this sort of thing as newsworthy, or else there are other reasons to make a big deal out of it.

I disagree. Although ignorance still exists, things have changed enough that people will vote for Obama, and he'll win.

I think people realize that McCain & Palin can't control what people yell at their rallies, but it's the way they handle it that's the big deal. (And that's not to mention the question of whether or not their speeches inspire this kind of response.)

Frankly, I was quite surprised by the way McCain handled even a direct question about it in the last debate. He had a chance to redeem himself then and he chose instead to defend his audiences and continue to attack Obama.

Well, this is the first video I watched even though there's been plenty of others posted. So I knew that people were saying stupid shit, some which is extremely offensive and horrible (which one of the reasons I didn't watch the other stuff) but it just surprised me that the candidate heard it and didn't address it at all. I just found it ridiculous.

They absolutely do have some control, and they are using it.

I think someone would have to shout the n word at an Obama rally in order for this to be evidence of the so-called "Bradley Effect". ;)

The thing that gets me about this one is that it seems like she heard it, because of the way she kind of stutters on the word "and".
  • rebornFixerrebornFixer Posts: 4,901
Well, I absolutely 100% agree that if she heard it, she should have said something about it.

If she did hear it, she'd never cop to it.

well, mccain said that he repudiates all of these things, so i'm sure he'll do the same with this one.

wait, what? he hasn't done that even though he said he would?

well i'm sure palin will tell the crowd to stop it that they are trying to run an honorable campaign. what? oh...she didn't hear the person say it? oh ok, my bad...carry on...

I'm not sure. Possibly, if the voting outcome is vastly different than all the pre and exit polls.

The left has made a much, much bigger deal out of race than the right has. No question on that. Does that make them racist? I think so.

Well first, the only one to feel sorry for is the ignorant fuck yelling out about Obama being a niger at a Palin rally. And second, stating our displeasure with her being grossly under qualified to be the president of the US, and questions McCain's judgment by selecting someone as such, is a FAR cry from calling Obama a racial slur.

Well, cunt is a slur towards woman, and redneck is a slur towards the small town folks. I guess it is okay to use hateful slurs against Palin if you think she is grossly unqualified to be president. So if this individual at the Palin rally thinks Obama is grossly under qualified to be president, and uses a slur, with your reasoning they are justified.

Personally, I don't think Obama should be called the N word or terrorist, and don't think Palin should be called a cunt. With your answer above you obviously are pro-cunt calling when it is pointed to someone you despise. This is mainly why I'm scared of the liberals taking over. Not so much the tax policies or the health care policies that I disagree with, but the hypocritical views that will lead to the limitation of free speech by conservatives and religious folks (I'm not talking about the N word here (no reason to be said ever), but just in general. The fact that liberals can't see the double standard, and won't be able to see it when they are limiting free speech in 15 - 30 years.

Did Palin say it? If not another non-issue.

Don't tell me Obama's black base isn't thinking this is the chance to get back at whitey.

Saying she is a c#nt is out of line and rude.

Calling her a Redneck is fine, she herself sang "Redneck Woman" with Gretchen Wilson at her Asheville rally yesterday here in NC.

That's right bootlegger, she self identifies as a Redneck so no offense should be taken on that descriptive term.

Racism is WAAAAAY more ignorant and therefore looked down on more.

Also, I never called her any of those names. So, I would appreciate it if you wouldn't interject what you think i was doing.

No, racism is NEVER okay, but some woman are cunts. ;) You see, the difference is, when you call someone the n-word, you are an ignorant racist fuck. When you use that word, there is a name for it. Racist. When you call someone a cunt, while not very nice, it is no worse than calling a dude an asshole. Racism is MUCH worse.

Okay. We'll just leave it at cunt then.
