This is so sad. I rejoiced when he was caught, but now I feel nothing but pity. Repulsive and dark... The only thing that is repulsive and dark is the hatred he has for himself and others who engage in things to what most of us would not even object to.

That's exactly what went through my head when I read it. Dark and repulsive? I think him thinking it's dark and repulsive is in fact, dark and repulsive.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly.

I still can only feel so sorry for someone who made himself wealthy and powerful by preaching hatred, but it is terribly sad that he thinks perfectly normal parts of himself are "repulsive and dark." The only thing repulsive and dark here is people using religion to make others hate themselves. He was a major perpetrator, but he was obviously a victim of it first, and look what it's done to him and his family.

give me a break. this man is incapable of telling the truth... he made a living out of lying to people... then he lied about everything in these accusations, now he is lying about this "repulsive and dark" nonsence. the only repulsive and dark thing about this lowlife is that he fought for an idealism of hate for financial gain. he stole from the bigots, and ignorant by pretending to be someone he was not. a christian. someone opposed to the gay lifestyle..... like every other mega church leader he is simply selling a bill of goods. if he found a large enough congregation to pay him millions and give him political power for hating women, or children, or blondes, or people over 6'2 or kittens, or the obese, or amputees, or mailmen, or people who wear a mustache, or people with freckles.... he would find that group REPULSIVE AND DARK.it just so happens there is a weathy population of people that were willing to pay him to furthur the cause for hatred against gays.... so he played that role... he would attempt to amend the constitution to include hate against his own 5 children if there was a big enough payday. get back to your whore mr. christian, and get the fuck away from my constitution.

i agree. his original admission that be "bought meth but threw it away without using it" is the dumbest excuse ive heard since clinton said he didnt inhale. this guy's a fucking scumbag and a hypocrite. is there any way to send him to prison? perhaps fraud or something? the only thing dark and repulsive about this story is that he bilked thousands of americans of their money and exploited, encouraged, and nurtured hatred and bigotry for his own sick power grab.

You guys are always so quick to try and say a weenie-in-the-buns is normal that sometimes you forget to see the big picture.

Here are some things that are "dark and repulsive", regardless of were you fall on the topic of homosexuality:

Lying, Deception, Unhealthly sexual addiction, Cheating on your spouse, Having regular sex with a prostitue, Drugs... yeah, I'd say pretty dark and repulsive if you asked me.

perhaps, but his apology implied that his homosexual acts were the only dark and repulsive things for which he was apologizing. he seemed to be saying that if it werent for the dark and repulsive nature of his gay tendencies, he never would have done the other things. that's bullshit.

the funny thing is, i dont believe he is actually gay. i think his decade-long obsession with their horrible, sinful, disgusting, hedonistic, lustful, perverted, sexy, forbidden, irresistible (get my progression) lead him to figure if ti was so evil and awful, there must be a good reason why people were doing. i think it was hhis obsession with how depraved people must be to pursue such pleasures that it made him unbearably curious to see what all the fuss was about, and so he tried it.

I'm not really sure why folks feel the need to defend the gay part of it when the undisputed and admitted fact was that he was doing all of this while being a father and husband. Would it be "oppressing his normal behavior" if he was doing this with another woman? I'd think not.

No, it wouldn't be. But if he's gay and wasn't trying to hide that side of himself, he'd have likely never married a woman in the first place.

I think soulsinging has a very good point too, that may have been exactly what happened ... his obsession drove him to be the very thing that he despised.

We'll never know. And like I said before, I can only feel so sorry for someone who built an empire from hatred. But still, I can see the sadness in it, if he was raised with these same beliefs, if he was brainwashed since birth to see himself as evil.
