Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but they are threatening to fire one unless we talk with them.
"We hope the situation will be resolved before an unfortunate incident of us firing a nuclear missile comes."
-unidentified North Korean official (could be US propoganda though)
that sucks big time. Especially when we have adopted an anti-diplomacy policy worldwide.0 -

There (stoneage) wasn´t any internatinoal propaganda sytem to make people feel scared all the time, that´s all. I´m sorry that you´re involved personally, I hope your friends are ok......a pearl, turning dirt into something beautiful - e.v0 -

There's always been propoganda. Big or small, it really makes no difference.0 -
jeffbr wrote:We have been pursing diplomatic solutions through a few different avenues. Most recently the six-party talks, with their multilateral format, tried to create dialog that wouldn't create a US vs. N. Korea situation. It was multilateral pressure from US, Russia, China, S. Korea, and Japan. And it wasn't all about threats. There were offers of opening up trade, improving relations with neighbors, etc...
But I expect you'll go on believing that the US is the source of all problems everywhere in the world, even in the face of contrary evidence.
I don't believe the U.S is the source of all problems everywhere in the world, but I do believe it's one of the main causes of most of the worlds problems. I expect that the majority of people in the world would agree with this.0 -

And what exactly do you believe was behind this supposed propaganda which was made at making people afraid of the woods? You've totally lost me here.0 -

I agree. I think it's the same mechanism used by the original authors of the Bible... FEAR. A FEARFUL God is more commanding than a benevolent one... a vengeful god will forsake you for eternity... so, you better damn well do as he says or you'll get yours in the end.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! What about it? God is no longer the vengeful, ultimate judge of Man in that version? I know... Jesus Saves... blah, blah, blah... So, we are all given a reprieve and can do horrible things to each other and still avoid the Lake of Fire as long as we have Jesus in our hearts.
If that's true... what's up with the term, "God fearing Christian"?Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

FEAR is a great motivator. That's the point I'm making. The Government uses it... as does the Church. "You'd better damn well believe in Jesus... or else, Hell awaits you" works as well as, "We better march off to War in Iraq or suffer the consequences of a Mushroom Cloud over America".
Gotta go with what works, right?Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

what makes it difficult is that there is some fears that are worth heeding ... poor diets, toxic waste, etc ... how does one distinguish what is legitimate fear and what isn't?0 -

I just find it intereseting that you can dismiss 8000 years of human belief in, and interaction with, a spirit world, and occult practices which was a central part of their lives, and which continues to be for many peoples in the world. So you believe that people are capable of deluding themselves for 8000 years +. I'm not so sure. I mean Christianity only survived for 2000 years, and it's influence is negligible. Shamanism is still alive and strong to this day in many parts of the world and is seeing something of a resurgence in many places as we come to realise our inter-dependency with our environment. To dismiss these beliefs as mere propaganda seems to be a tad facile.0 -

Shamans use Sage plants like Salvia Divinorium to induce a hallucinagenic state. If you are hallucinating, your reality can be anything. If someone makes a suggestion to you, you will experience it.I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire0 -

I'm not afraid to die. I'm more afraid that I'll live to be 100 in this fucked up world. Thanks, but no thanks. This body is holding me back.0

I can't enjoy life 100%, because I'm always afraid now of my friend's in Iraq that are in danger. I already lost my best friend over there. Man the world sucks these days.
