Why Are We Forced To Consume Fluoride In Municipal Tap Water?

I'm not saying its a conspiracy.
I'm asking a question.
If SO much modern science brings in to question the effectivenes of fluoride as a tooth-decay preventative, and so much other science indicates it is toxic, and the only question is how toxic, WHY are we still using it?

In fact, just the notion that it has taken a serious hit with respect to questions of its effectiveness as a preventative should be enough to have it pulled from the water supply.

If it costs money, and its not doing anything, why are we using it ???

Just curious.

  • So far this is the rebuttal i have found: here.

I'll admit, i'm just looking at this stuff now.
    Just curious for some input.
Maybe save me some research time.

Many municipalities don't fluoridate their water. I'd always assumed Fluoride was good for your teeth though. Interesting read.

i'm all for it... big test been carried out in the UK

    http://www.dentalhealthwestmidlands.nhs.uk/

it was in the news just recently... you can see the results for yourselves.. pretty interesting and i'm a big fan of the fluoride in the water system..
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Life is toxic.. we're all dying one day at a time.. I can think of much worse things to worry about than flouride. Be happy the water is fresh and not full of sewage and disease like the rest of the developing world.

I won't drink or cook with tap water because of it among other things. It's bad enough I have to bathe in the stuff.

and there is no reason for it to be in the water.....

Do many people still drink the water that comes out of the tap? Or have most of us gone to bottled water (or directly filtered water from the tap). I admit, I have both. When I lived in Northern Texas I wouldn't even rinse my mouth after brushing my teeth with the tap water - it reeked of chlorine.

When I went to the dentist as a kid, he would paint fluoride on my teeth and clamp my mouth open and I'd have to sit there for like 5 minutes. At the end of the treatment, he'd always have me rinse my mouth and spit NOT swallow. Wonder how drinking fluoride is supposed to help teeth? Do they still do fluoride applications to children's teeth these days?

Home water systems are fairly inexpensive if you're really concerned.

You can install them right at the input into the house and soften it use Reverse Osmosis, carbon filtration whatever you're into. Take out Heavy metals viruses whatever you want.

Bottled water is also bad because of toxics from the plastic..

How about mercury in tooth fillings.

Do they take out the flouride? We just get our water jugs refilled at the market. I have a hard time trusting anything that smells that bad even if it's gone through a filter.

You're not forced. Drink purified water if you want to.

    I'm sorry.
Its forced in to the water that comes in to my house, and which i pay for, without control over the chemicals in it.

    ?
    does that clarify it better
    ?

Yes - don't drink it if you do not want to.

Do you mind them putting it in the water or would you prefer if they didn't? Would you support actions to try to get them to remove it from the water supply?

I'd be happier with Ozonation rather than cholorination as a means of cleaning the drinking water.

    But what about the fluoride?

And Know1, just because I can choose not to use the water i pay for, does it mean that most Americans should unwittingly be duped in to consuming something that may or may not be of detriment to their health, and certainly something that has perceived benefits that are seemingly now in serious question.

Hell, they could put cyanide in the water and you could use your silly argument, which is "don't drink" it, but come one.

    SHOULD they be doing it?

    ???

I remember reading somewhere about they were doing studies about the fluoride being breathed in during showers. The flouridized steam from hot showers being breathed into the lungs was thought by some to be harmful.

Gas masks in the shower, anyone? :D

Hehehe. That would freak out your significant other !! They would think think they entered a Pink Floyd world !
  • So far this is the rebuttal i have found: here.

What i find most curious is that the rebuttal presented here to the "anti-fluoride" "movement" is little more than a propagandized smear campaign.

The ONLY science brought up to support fluoride in this "article" is studies showing it doesn't cause cancer ... while i'm sure those studies themselves could be brought to scrutiny ... the real question is why is that the ONLY claim rebuked.

From my original article, i don't see cancer too many places on that 50 reasons why we shouldnt use it ... but i read a lot of medical studies questioning the effectiveness of it, and questioning effects on the immune system OTHER than cancer.

This article is ALMOST as bad as the IRS printing up a FAQ on "Tax Protester Arguments Debunked" which systematicaly goes through and debunks EVERY tax argument EXCEPT the one that is VALID. Namely, there is no expressed "liability" provided in the code.

    Interesting.

I know... the visual image of walking into a steamy bathroom all groggy, first thing in the morning and glancing over at someone wearing a gas mask while scrubbing away gives me the willies. :p
