Lidle was an outcast among some teammates throughout his career because he became a replacement player in 1995, when major-leaguers were on strike.0 -

That's the way it is. The more "famous" you are the more press you get but I don't think you are more "Glorified">So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream

i think in this situation, a plane crashing into a building in nyc, the pilot would be overanalyzed in the press either way.0 -

Googled airplane and it was equiped with parachute that deploys in case theres an engine failure...reason he bought it...said it was safer than most planes....site shows actual footage of plane coming down on parachute...it is very slow link though..this will really hurt the manufacturer..for sure...so if you have stock...sell sell.10-18-2000 Houston, 04-06-2003 Houston, 6-25-2003 Toronto, 10-8-2004 Kissimmee, 9-4-2005 Calgary, 12-3-05 Sao Paulo, 7-2-2006 Denver, 7-22-06 Gorge, 7-23-2006 Gorge, 9-13-2006 Bern, 6-22-2008 DC, 6-24-2008 MSG, 6-25-2008 MSG0

Well, a report has said there was a mayday call indicating mechanical failure--that could have affected the parachute deployment.0

it ironic though, that he bought it for that reason. they just said on msnbc that there was an article in the times, i think, last month about lidle and how he's bought a plane. and he discussed the parachute.0 -

just adding to this thread some interesting info..thats all. I think they said it was fuel related...course at low altitudes in a big city he may not have been able to use the chute anyway....course he may also have stalled it trying to get back to airport....and since he was a new pilot...10-18-2000 Houston, 04-06-2003 Houston, 6-25-2003 Toronto, 10-8-2004 Kissimmee, 9-4-2005 Calgary, 12-3-05 Sao Paulo, 7-2-2006 Denver, 7-22-06 Gorge, 7-23-2006 Gorge, 9-13-2006 Bern, 6-22-2008 DC, 6-24-2008 MSG, 6-25-2008 MSG0 -
Sad.
Scary too. Of course my first fears were terrorist related. Then it became obvious it was an accident...but then I heard the fighter jets fly over my house from the local Air Force base, Selfrige, like they did on 911.
The news say they went up over lots of major cities.
I know the sound of them so well, and they never scared me when I heard them until 911. Now, I can't stand to hear them. Its a sound that makes me feel unsafe.
They haven't come back yet. OOPS...I hear them right now as I was typing!!!! They are just now returning.
Anyway, today was one of those days that felt..."off". So this was scary.
It is sad, but I feel some relief.
They must had sent a lot of jets here. There are lots returning. I heard them leave, but didn't know what was up...and didn't pay attention to how many. Now, it seems a lot are coming back.Save room for dessert!0 -

i've heard (and seen) fighter jets every day since...god, i don't know how long. 174th fighter wing is stationed here. the boys from syracuse. i love seeing them flying, coming in for a landing. it's great. on thursday nights, we used to drive down this dead end road that had a chain link fence at the end of it. if you parked your car next to the fence, the fighter jets would come in for a landing right over your head, really low because the end of the runway they used was just on the other side of the fence. not once since 9/11 have i felt fear when hearing/seeing those jets."PC Load Letter?! What the fuck does that mean?"

They have such a distinct sound. BUT, in the past I wouldn't always notice the sound in the sky...now...I hear them every single time they go up. Its no longer just "white" noise to me.
I hate living in this new fear 911 gave us. I like to say and act as if I am not scared, but today showed me I am afraid. I am not sure "afraid" is the right word. I felt more of a sinking of my heart feeling. That is how those fighter jets make me feel too.
Then, I got a few phone calls from people who were at work during this today, and they got a little piece of what happened via text messaging, and whatever...and they called me to get more of the story...but their first words were, "I heard we are being attacked again".
That is how it was going around for people at work with no news access. I knew it wasn't an attack, but it was so 911 like in the actions that were taken by so many.Save room for dessert!0 -
