Sad.
Scary too. Of course my first fears were terrorist related. Then it became obvious it was an accident...but then I heard the fighter jets fly over my house from the local Air Force base, Selfrige, like they did on 911.
The news say they went up over lots of major cities.
I know the sound of them so well, and they never scared me when I heard them until 911. Now, I can't stand to hear them. Its a sound that makes me feel unsafe.
They haven't come back yet. OOPS...I hear them right now as I was typing!!!! They are just now returning.
Anyway, today was one of those days that felt..."off". So this was scary.
It is sad, but I feel some relief.
They must had sent a lot of jets here. There are lots returning. I heard them leave, but didn't know what was up...and didn't pay attention to how many. Now, it seems a lot are coming back.
i've heard (and seen) fighter jets every day since...god, i don't know how long. 174th fighter wing is stationed here. the boys from syracuse. i love seeing them flying, coming in for a landing. it's great. on thursday nights, we used to drive down this dead end road that had a chain link fence at the end of it. if you parked your car next to the fence, the fighter jets would come in for a landing right over your head, really low because the end of the runway they used was just on the other side of the fence. not once since 9/11 have i felt fear when hearing/seeing those jets.

Me too! I used to like them. Now, they give me that horrible feeling. It seemed that was all I heard the days following 911.
They have such a distinct sound. BUT, in the past I wouldn't always notice the sound in the sky...now...I hear them every single time they go up. Its no longer just "white" noise to me.
I hate living in this new fear 911 gave us. I like to say and act as if I am not scared, but today showed me I am afraid. I am not sure "afraid" is the right word. I felt more of a sinking of my heart feeling. That is how those fighter jets make me feel too.
Then, I got a few phone calls from people who were at work during this today, and they got a little piece of what happened via text messaging, and whatever...and they called me to get more of the story...but their first words were, "I heard we are being attacked again".
That is how it was going around for people at work with no news access. I knew it wasn't an attack, but it was so 911 like in the actions that were taken by so many.
-- The National Transportation Safety Board blames a stiff wind for the plane crash in New York last month that killed Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle, The Associated Press reports.
