NEW YORK - An aircraft crashed into a high-rise apartment building on Manhattan's Upper East Side in New York City on Thursday, NBC News reported. There were conflicting reports about whether it was an airplane or a chopper.
There were no immediate reports on injuries.
Video from the scene showed at least three buildings in the high-rise engulfed in flames. A column of gray smoke rose over the city, and raging flames could be seen in four windows on two upper floors.
According to local affiliate WNBC, officials said the aircraft was a helicopter, not a plane. That had not been confirmed by any other sources.
The crash occurred near the heliport on the East River, according to MSNBC cable.
Fire Department spokeswoman Emily Rahimi said an aircraft struck struck the 20th floor of a building on East 72nd Street. Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows.

Don't EVEN go there on this board. I can hear it now!
Yes, please ... Until we get some evidence to the contrary, let's treat it like a terrible accident.
There was no word on casualties.
Video from the scene shows at least three apartments in the high rise fully engulfed in flames.
It's unclear if it was a small plane or a helicopter.
Live video link there.
I just said that because we all know someone would come on here to turn it about a 9/11 conspiracy, I was just getting out of the way early.
Is there anywhere streaming video of this on the net?

Oh I know. I'm just sayin. I can read it now.. c4 was planted on the 24th floor 36 hours prior and it didn't look like a commerical aircraft. It looked almost like a military craft if you look close enough.
Can someone explain me what is the difference between aircraft and airplane?!
great idea to make light of a terrible situation. why am I not surprised. next your gonna tell me bush did this to divert attention from Iraq. classless.

I'm just sayin..
aircraft is just something that flies, could be a helicopter or airplane or unmanned drone.
They just said it was Fixed wing under vfr. Sounds like he just crashed into the building somehow.
Did you even read my post after I said that? You're doing the same thing by trying to turn this into a political issue. classless
