Nothing like people arguing over who's fairy tale is more realistic, to give me a good laugh for the day.
That's extremely demeaning. Don't you see that these people do not believe that it's a fairy tale. Do you understand the meaning of the word belief? It means they hold it to be true.
The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.

Can you believe this is now international news? I heard on the radio today that it was in the Paris paper.
To be honest, I think it would be very difficult to ever get rid of political correctness because the media play it up so much. It makes good copy after all!

Would it have hurt to let the rabbi install the menorah and keep the tree? What if he did all the work himself? I'm sure the jewish customers would have appreciated it. I don't think the rabbi should have gotten so worked up about it. But the airport kinda overreacted, too.
oh my god, i agree with abook!
A Christmas tree is fine. A menorah is fine. I mean, really.
Folks offended by a menorah justify folks offended by a Christmas tree. It's the Holiday season and they're both fine and are both beyond INoffensive.

But, I completely agree with the airport. .
A) they shouldn't be forced to display holiday decorations they don't want to. it is impossible to please everyone....so should we just cancel all holidays because of this?
If they allow the Jews to put something up, then they have to accommodate ALL religions and then it becomes a huge cluster fuck of 100 different messages when the national holiday is Christmas.
C) Threatening lawsuits is not a very Merry or Happy anything.

That's what I thought too. This whole thing is really nonsense. Going to the airport is shitty enough I don't need a festivus pole every 5 feet. Would you even notice if there never any christmas decorations let alone noticing not all religions aren't represented?

But there wasn't a request for ALL religions to have something up...just one more. I think it's jumping the gun a little bit. The airport should say that they simply don't want to put it up. But that, of course, would offend customers so they pretend that everyone would pile in making similar requests. They could put up the menorah and see what happens from there....that seems harmless enough. And if they DO get a ton similar requests then they should announce that they are only going to display decorations representing their own faith, which is their right. The airport is also trying to be PC in the name of business.

An interesting aspect to this story is that the "Christmas" tree has origins well before the arrival of Christianity, and in fact, the practice of bringing a tree indoors to mark the solstice was considered heathen and shunned by Christians for many years.
The menorah is strictly a Jewish symbol in origin.
A christmas tree does not hold any religious significance for Christians whatsoever; therefore, it is not a religious artifact. However, the Menorah does hold religious significance for Jews; therefore, it is a religious artifact.
The Rabbi wanted to place a religious artifact in the airport alongside a non-religious artifact.
We should really be pointing out the Rabbi's lack of appreciation for religious tolerance here.
The Christmas tree is not mentioned once in the Bible. It seems silly to me that so many people immediately say "Oh, just let him put up the Menorah." Bullshit. Tell him to buzz off.
Now, if there had been a creche in the airport, I would support the Rabbi completely.
In fact, fuck Christmas trees. I wouldn't want any of them up either.
All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

Laughing at God is akin to being a dick to your waiter. He might act nice now, but yer still getting a loogie in yer caesar salad.
I guess in God's case, he'll just decide to damn you to tell for all eternity. That's up to him?
LOL!:D
Silly person. I'm not laughing at god, I'm laughing at people who think they know god or what god wants; based on some three thousand year old fairy tales.
Oh my, it's so demeaning to be told one is damned in god's eyes and damned to hell for eternity......oh dear....oh my....I feel so offended....LOL!
wow, what a way to demean so many millions of people at once!
You mean just like the way religious people demean non-believers by raising themselves upon a throne of self-righteousness, superiority and arrogance; when they play the wonderful game of...."I know what god wants....I know what god thinks.....I know what god feels "; and all you non-believers are going to hell.
Or when religious people want to create laws based on their religious beliefs, with complete disregard for what non-believers of their chosen "god" want, think or feel?
I'm an atheist, have put a Christmas tree up, AND a Menorah, at my place of business for the enjoyment of the customers. No one's complained about anything and everyone seems happy. Why not just put up a few decorations from the major religions, and if anyone's is left out and they say something, put up something from theirs.
The airport instead of taking down the trees in the first place, should have put up the menorah. Hannukah is happening around now too; why not acknowledge that?

hey, i'll laugh at that fucker all day long. and if he/she/it condemns me to hell for all eternity, then he/she/it is a complete DICK, don't you think?
fuck god, that bitch
maybe it would condemn you for you acting like a complete ass towards "it", as your above post so eloquently demonstrates.
make sure the fortune that you seek...is the fortune that you need
isn't this "god" supposed to be all-loving? but still will condemn people to an eternity in "hell"? nice religion ya got there. lucky for me, it's all a bunch of bullshit. we all rot in the ground. yay!
no you said he/she/it...so i merely played along and offered a reason why he/she/it would be upset at you.
well thanks for clearing it up that it's all BS.

I enjoy people who seem to think they are tolerant. It's the only reason I keep coming to this board since it seems like all of the common sense and decency have been chased away.

Tolerance does not equal consideration. Both sides are guilty of being inconsiderate of anothers passions whether it be religion, hope of living in a peaceful world, marches and protests, rights movements, use of diplomacy, patriotism, etc. Of course it's not very productive but it's often a common thing here to make light of another's passions and nobody has the market cornered on it. It's best to let it roll off your shoulders and continue to stand up for what you believe.

Again, thanks for the good laugh.
Come on, now. I'd think anyone would admit that these trees being taken down is silly. There are far more offensive things out there than a tree.
People offended by "Happy Holidays" = silly
People offended by a "Christmas tree" = silly

As of 6 minutes ago, the trees are going back up. I guess the Rabbi felt a lot of backlash.
Is it wrong that this makes me very happy?
