  • Olbermann is an ass. He's one of a select few, that if I met them in person, it would be difficult to refrain from punching him in the face. He's part of the problem.

He's an ass...he's using 9/11 for political exploitation. Why can people here see the ridicoulousness of Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, and Bill O'Reilly and then they miss the same thing about the Olbermann's?

  • again folks it was the MCNASTY campaign that used a 9/11 video at their convention as political exploitation let's at least confirm that ok ?? ....if you can't acknowledge that your truly cluless .

Normally i'm on the same page as you cincy with most things but not this time ;)
McCain was the one who used 9/11 for political exploitation. Olbermann was merely pointing out what an ass he is. At least that's how i see it.

Hence I said BUT he is dead on here.

Only slack-jawed, mouth breathers believe that it wasn't gross exploitation of 9-11 at the RNC.
  • Olbermann is an ass, but no one else in the media is calling McCain and the Republicans out on their "ownership" of 9/11 and how they use it for their own selfish purposes and the politics of fear. I haven't heard anyone in the traditional media even mention that fucked up, fear mongering video they played at the RNC.

I especially loved the part where he said (something to the effect of) "they say we've kept you safe since then. But what about THEN?"

Olbermann is a complete and utter ass. If I was a conservative I'd probably want to tears his eyes out. As of now, I only think he is a complete idiot and doesn't deserve a show. His Ed Murrow shtick is not working. There's only one Ed Murrow.

That being said, I don't see how anyone can deny that Republicans have attempted to 'co-opt' 9/11 as a reason to continue to vote Republican. Rudy berated the Democrats for not mentioning 9/11 enough during their convention. They have attempted to turn 9/11 from an American tragedy into a tragedy mourned and avenged by Republicans and celebrated by Democrats. The rural, small-town voters realize the tragedy while those urban elite Democrats just don't understand.

As a New Yorker, the hypocrisy of that last statement is offensive. when you consider that it was hundreds of those 'media-elite New Yorkers' that rushed into the World Trade Center to save hundreds, if not thousands of lives and lost their own for doing so. How dare they try to exclude New Yorkers who would not vote for Bush or McCain from that tragedy.
  • Olbermann is an ass AND he is sometimes dead on accurate.

For those who had not seen the "tribute" that the RNC made for their convention...

Hey cincy sorry you don't like to hear the truth when it doesn't fit your partisan outlook. As most, of the other posters here said, Olbermann is right, and it's actually Giuliani, McCain, and other republicans who exploit 9/11 for political gain. You're not helping your case at all by resorting to the typical republican response of violence to settle issues. That's not part of the problem, that IS the problem. Thanks for contributing to it.

See, I think the thing is that Olbermann is such an obvious partisan (as Hannity is), and his "side" for a lack of a better term is on target much more than Hannity's so-called side. I don't think Olbermann being dead on is due to any significant insight on his part.
  • I am not defending the RNC 9/11 video at all, but how is Olbermans employer, MSNBC, replaying the whole original newscast any different? They are exploiting 9/11 for ratings.

I usually turn off the TV when Keith O. goes into one of his "special comments." Too masturabatory (is that spelled right?) for my taste. But this one, I agree with most of the other posters - dead on. What a terrible way to exploit 9/11. And the link with Iran - if you had any doubt these folks are warmongers, here's the evidence right here.
  • I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Keith Olbermann.. I think he is a true patriot and cares deeply for this country. His program is a permanent fixture on my tivo list.

He was without a doubt dead on with this commentary.

One small difference .... MSNBC isn't running for president ... John McCain is.

I'll fully agree that the channel is slanted left, and Olberman is not impartial .... but ... please, the repulicans are pretty disgusting with their use of 9/11.

And don't get me started with Giuliani.

I was only pissed because I thought it was a cheap copy of the DNC exploiting all of the Katrina footage.

The DNC did not have some tribute film of Katrina like the RNC did for 9/11 ... come to think of it ... if over 1,800 people died (and another 700 or so are still missing), why didn't the RNC have a tribute to those affected by Katrina?

    Maybe because ...

    1) Fear is what republicans like to run on?
    2) This admisitration completely fucked up the relief efforts of New Orleans?
    3) The folks affected were poor?

    hey there floyd1975.

i'm going to have to argue with you here. i was there and didn't see exploitation of katrina footage. and i even attended convention business every day for the full amount of time.

even if they were to highlight katrina, what would be the issue? that area is still messed up and people should be reminded that there's still work to do. it's also a nice reminder of the failed bush administration and why we need ch-ch-change.

What newscast are you talking about? Do you mean the original 9/11 video that was shown on their newscast?

    Arguing is fun.

I only really saw it before and during President Carter's speech.

I believe that more people than just President Bush deserve blame for Katrina. Even some Democrats. The point that many Republicans make, which I don't buy, is that 9/11 was caused by years of weak foreign policy during President Clinton's terms. This is why I don't find either party's use of the videos to be exploitative but I find both to be done with the same intent.

oh you're going to love this. that's when i stepped out for a smoke. when i came back someone was all, 'you just missed jimmy carter.' but i thought she said that he just came out and waved pretty much.

sure some democrats could be at fault for that stuff too. and videos like both are of course politicized. but if it helps at all, there were fundraisers outside of convention business for katrina. so at least part of that could have served as a reminder to pony up some cash to help fix what the government didn't.
