Did you ever consider that they may be in the process of learning the language.

All true. But companies shouldn't hire such people for customer service positions.

I don't get annoyed at the employees that speak poor English, I get annoyed at the company that hired them and put them in a positions where their job is to communicate with English speaking customers. In general, I don't shop at that store/restaurant again.

I don't know I guess it is a toss up. I mean if the only person they can get to apply at McDonald's, (or the best person who isn't a squeaky voiced 14 year old) is someone who doesn't speak english very well, the options for the customer are to be pissed off becuase the cashier doesn't speak english very good, or be pissed off because the lines are 2 or 3 times as long because they are understaffed.

I just take it as a given that when you go to a place like fast food, or a walmart or whatever you have to deal with customer service people who really aren't that skillked (whethere they are immigrants or not). Those aren't very good jobs and if you are talented (even in the world of customer service) and you have some experience it is easy to move on to something better.

I agree with you. However they know that they are not supposed to be here illegally. They know they are breaking the law. They should know what they risk by doing so. If you can't do the time don't do the crime saying applies here.

But I agree that the owners of these companies should face punishment, in fact I think I'll fire off an email to ICE and ask if the owners were arrested as well.

If water were made illegal would you break the law to drink it?

Like I said, I just stop shopping and such locations. Employees speaking poor English is just one reason, not the only reason. If a place can't provide good customer service, they aren't getting my money. Period.

Fast food is kind of moot as I seldom ever eat that junk anyway. But I avoid Wal-mart's like the plague. Target's around here have much better customer service (though still not ideal) and I'll gladly pay their higher prices for the same products to avoid the hassle of long lines, worthless customer service reps etc.

Please don't cloud the issue, for many illegal immigration is not about racism any more than being against murder is racist if the murderer happens to be a minority.

It's about following the laws you have in place...and changing them if they aren't working for you, not just ignoring them. That's the lazy, undisciplined approach that could destroy a nation. Not on this law/issue alone, but that approach to all laws/issues.

I'm saying we should change the laws and make it easy and legal for them to be here and work. Didn't you read any of the earlier posts?

Congrats - that means you must be weird. Few people agree with me.

Do you know anyone who is say from Mexico who is trying to become a citizen and doing it the legal way? By legal I mean resident alien cards, green cards, whatever you want to call them?

    Because I do.

And the guy is one of my best friends, and he is getting jacked around. Every year he has to go to Chicago to fill out paperwork that he is still here. He is of legal status, he busts his butt doing a good job, and he is a responsible person.

So this is one of the main reasons why I'm against illegal immigrants and people who want to make it easier for them to be here. You help my friend and others like him first. If you don't and give the criminals a free ride instead it is a slap in the face to those that are doing things the right way and by the law.

That's a pretty lame reason not to change the laws. Who cares if others get a pass as long as your friend gets a pass too? The point it that the friend makes it in finailly. If others have an easier time of it because the laws change, then he should be happy for himself and for others who don't have to go through the hassle he did.

No because all of the talk is about amnesty for the illegal ones, not for helping the ones that are trying to do it by the law. You want to speed it up for the legal immigrants? Awesome. As for the illegals... well I guess I have nothing nice to say about them.
