What's great about voting for an unprincipled leader is that it creates suspense. You never know what he'll do since you can't believe what he's said in the past and there are no guiding principles to predict future actions. Pretty exciting!
Yay! Sarcasm! I LOVE sarcasm.
What do you propose we do?
Hmmmm?
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
Good points.
I don't understand why he isn't allowed to change his mind in order to please people. I am not for offshore drilling but I appreciate his willingness to compromise for the people.
What if, in the name of compromise, he determines we need to maintain current troop levels in Iraq for the next 3-5 years? Ok?

No, it would not be ok with me.
What is your point?
Do you think McCain or Nader or Paul is going to make you happy on everyone of your points on your laundry list????
I don't think changing ones view on offshore drilling is comparative to leaving the troops over there for 3-5 years. Honestly, do you?

i don't think Obama really supports offshore drilling either. The problem is, it seems A LOT of Americans do support it. The president is, afterall, a public servant. Obama said he may consider it if it were part of a much larger comprehensive package. Its called compromise. It isn't some horrible, 180 pandering "flip-flop". Its called mindful leadership.

Except that he promised environmentally-concerned Florida resident that he wouldn't. If his initial position was simply that he didn't think it would work, and he changed his position on the "off chance that it lowers gas prices", or as "part of a comprehensive energy policy", then ALL of you would be correct, and there would be no problem. That is what he is pretending his initial position was.
The reality was that he tried to gain political standing by catering to the environmental movement on this issue, as well as suggest it wouldn't work. When he promises not to overturn the ban on drilling because of environmental reasons, and shifts his positions because of congressional pressure or perceived votes, then he is abandoning any principles he has.
Again, the June position.....
“When I’m president, I intend to keep in place the moratorium here in Florida and around the country that prevents oil companies from drilling off Florida’s coasts. That’s how we can protect our coastline and still make the investments that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and bring down gas prices for good.”
The coastlines are no longer worth protecting, Barry?
I'm sorry, but you're ridiculous! Listen to yourself.
In early June, he tells Florida residents there will be "NO drilling while he is President" - not because it doesn't work, but for ENVIRONMENTAL reasons. Then, later he co-opts McCain's position because of poll results, and basically does a 180 on what he said weeks before, and the environmental position he was trying to take weeks prior is GONE.
And that's compromise? It's refreshing? It's refreshing to have no idea what a politician's position on ANY issue is, because he may have to change it? What if in January he says, "It would be a bad move to the pull the troops of Iraq out for security reasons? What if, next week, he flip-flops on Palestine because of OTHER politicians views? ...........After further review, he decides his tax plan, won't work. It's OK, he's compromising. It's refreshing.
Using that logic, Obama can break any campaign promise he makes if there are other political actors that want to do something else. That is the most preposterous thing I have ever heard. Even you cannot believe what you are saying. It's OK though, because if you change your mind about what you've posted here next week, you can always say you are compromising and that THIS was REALLY your position to being with. Then you'll be just like 'ole Barry.
You should just ignore this and stop posting before you make an even bigger ass out of yourself.
so your advocating that once a person says something, they can never, ever, never change their opinion on the matter...
hmmm....that's worked well with bush in office...right...?
and relax with the personal attack crap...you may not understand this, but just because someone doesn't agree with your viewpoints...it doesn't make that person an ass...however, if you happen to think as such...you have a good chance of looking like an ass yourself....
Again, the June position.....

It wasn't just in June... as late as last Wednesday, Obama stated the same opposition to off shore drilling. Then guess what, poll numbers came out stating that 75% of the American public supported off shore drilling. And presto-chango, by Friday, Obama supports off shore drilling as a comprehensive plan of energy independence yadda yadda yadda......

The reality is that Obama doesn't want to drill, and if it were up to him there would be no offshore drilling. He has not changed that position.
However, if in order to pass a comprehensive energy bill Obama HAD to compromise on the drilling part, he would.
That doesn't mean he will even be put in that position. Afterall, we could have a Democratic congress after the election. It doesn't mean that he advocates drilling. It doesn't mean that drilling is even PART of his plan. I mean seriouslly, drilling IS NOT PART OF OBAMA's ENERGY PLAN!!!!
All it means is that he will reluctantly agree to SOME drilling if absolutley necessary to get an overall energy bill passed.
Would you rather us have more years of political gridlock where nobody can get anything done becuase nobody is willing to concede anything?
I'm sure a savy guy like Obama would make the other side give up something they weren't happy with in exchange for offshore drilling.
This is called compromise. It takes political courage for a leader to do it sometimes. it's what our country needs. A nation of 300 plus million people is never going to all agree on one thing.
i love it. no more flip-flopping. let see if people here will say the same thing about McCain if he changes his mind. of course i have all the faith in the world that people here will treat McCain just like Obama.

wouldn't he represent change far more if he didn't kowtow to evironmentalism? what is bad about offshore drilling? seriously, i don't know anything about it....

Vote for a principled candidate who represents your views.
Both Obama and McCain are opportunists and will be sure to disappoint their constituency.
