So...is Boom an official member or what?

I just watched VH1 Rock Honors and didn't see Boom. Some other guy was playing the piano. I find it odd that when playing a song that could clearly use Boom's expertise, he's not on stage.

He's not in the band. He's a side contributor. not unlike Money Mark, the guy who has been playing keyboards with the Beastie Boys since the early 90's.
edit: oh, and the band wasn't about to have their goofy lookin' Hawaiian keyboard guy on national TV with them. his expertise? I think the guy with the orchestra did a fine job....as anyone who can play piano would have.

Dude. He does a better job than i could do.
and shit, if they stick organ in Rats, there's no doubt in my mind he should've been there during Reign O'er Me. Especially since they've played it with him several times now...

they don't people outside of the hardcore fanbase to know about him because he's a freakin' goofball. notice he wasn't on SNL or Letterman with them in '06?

This might sound ignorant (I know shocking from me) but I had no idea who Money Mark was. I saw him on the Roo lineup and was indifferent.

No doubt, the guy with the orchestra was great...but since they have the "goofy lookin' Hawaiian keyboard guy" on stage every show for that song for the last couple tours, it only makes sense that he'd be there last Sunday.

yeah he's good. he also works with Beck.
Here's a great performance of Sabotage. the video says Woodstock '99 but it's not because the Beasties didn't play there. check out Mark going completely crazy on the keys.

I have a strange feeling Boom may be being phased out. He didn't play on that many songs this this tour. It seems for half the shows I was at, he wasn't even on stage.
Coupled with this VH1 thing ... I dunno ... I just have a sense his time might be done.
for the least they could possibly do
2008: MSG 1, Hartford, Mansfield 2, Ed Solo NYC 1
2009: London (O2), Philly 1, 2, 3, & 4
2010: Hartford, Boston, MSG 1 & 2
2011: Ed Solo Hartford
2012: Philly (MIA Fest)
2013: Worcester 2, Brooklyn 1 & 2, Hartford
I totally agree with you. That's why i wondered why some other dude was on stage!
....maybe VH1 got wind of fans screaming his name and figured BOOOOOOING would sound/look bad.

Thanks for the video. That was prett tight. I have never seen the Beasties live. That makes me want to go see them.

well then I have one more for ya. it's from 2007 so it'll give ya an idea how awesome they still are. It's shot really well by some guy in the crowd. check Adrock's vocals on the opening lines. unbelievable.

I hope you're wrong. I LOVE Boom!!

I like him too, in doses. This tour was just about right for me.
for the least they could possibly do
Yeah, but they've been playing the shit out of it this month on tour, and it's been fine.
for the least they could possibly do
Listen to the first 10 seconds and you'll know why he wasn't there.
Eh. As I mentioned, he's been playing it just fine on this tour. He could have been there, but I don't really care one way or another.
for the least they could possibly do
Ed's no Roger Daltrey either but that doesn't make me love their version (including Boom) any less.

do you have ANY idea what a 1st class round-trip plane ticket costs PJ everytime they summon Boom back to the mainland?!

Thought it was B.O'B. on the piano which would makes sense to have him instead of Boom since he plays the piano on the studio version.
Asbury Park '21; MSG '22; Camden '22
Honestly, listening to Daltrey tonight, you're right. I would never insult Ed that way
for the least they could possibly do
I'm glads Im not the only one who noticed.
Boom is not going anywhere. Brendan was clearly the beter choice for keys this time around.
I honestly cant wat to see how Brendan helps utilize Boom more on the next album.
