that would be more appropriate for this discussion?
Why are people fascinated by apocalypse? Pretty freakin' morbid if you ask me. After 2012 passes us by there'll be new apocalyptic theories, just as there always has been. Yuk.

I don't see it as some doomsday, apocalyptic event, anyways. And none of the stuff I've posted says that.
If you don't want to discuss it then don't...no need to want to control others, though.
Also, just as reference....Terence McKenna and Tom Robbins were great friends

Sorry I don't want to ruffle any feathers here, that certainly isn't my intention. I just think trying to predict what is going to happen to humanity, whether it be a paradigm shift of consciousness or apocalypse (same thing), is beyond the realm of possibilities for our feeble minds. The human brain is celebrated as the greatest tool in the universe but I think the mass subconscious is looking through a.... veil There is so much that we cannot comprehend. Any "science" is measured by an instrument that only measures it the same way if in the same time and space. We put numbers and measures to these things in order to make ourselves feel like we have conquered a science, conquered the world, and in some ways we have. We build things, people go to work to sell things out of these buildings, they are torn down, new people are born who build new buildings, and the process starts over. But just because we can build and destroy or fly to our closest planet, which is like walking outside your front door and saying you've explored earth, this doesn't mean that we know much of anything really. To try to use these instruments of science to prove what will happen in the future is like trying to use a compass to talk to a ghost. Of course I'll read these theories because the concepts are imaginative and fascinating, so please don't take my opinion too seriously. We all know nothing here, but we all can pretend to know something. Actually there is one thing I know; that I am here, now, in this moment, with a computer in a hotel in Reno, missing my wife, and thinking how incredibly pathetic I am! I think I'll have a cheeseburger now. Yum.

Thanks for the genuine reply. I find this fascinating, too and I realize that we have to explore uncharted areas of possibilities in order to create new knowledge and understanding. I'm not content to only explore what we humans know and can grasp now...I want to push forward and dig into the things that still mystify us. I want to explore! If we don't do this, there is no more progress or advancements beyond the present....And you're absolutely right, though...it is a lot to wrap ones head around and takes extreme concentration to start fully grasping...thank goodness for scientists! I am trying but it takes me a few good reads to really let what I'm taking into start to settle. These theories are complex and intricate.
I'm glad you're going to read up on these theories so perhaps we can exchange our own thoughts and ideas about what it all might mean for us in the future. I'd also like to recommend the film Pi if you haven't already seen it....it's about numerology and predictions...an extremely thought provoking film. Cheers!

its interesting, it mentions when Jesus was supposedly upset over false idols, think its in the bible, but the truth was he was against the wrong idols. People at his coming were going through a change of the age, from whatever to pisces...so they were still worshipping the bull when it should have been a fish. (notice the jesus fish on cars today). So he was reminding htem the age had changed. and soon we will be in the next age.
So pisces ends around 2012 and we move on to the next. In this case it has been predicted by more than just the Mayans to be a radical change.
I think that if you want to have a serious discussion about this, you ought to read up a little more on what we are talking about here.
I've watched a few 2012 documentaries. I'm not convinced.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.
The only thing I agree with is the being in touch with ones emotions thing that they tie into the time and awareness thing. I like that part of the calendar.
This whole apocalypse, major event, hoopla, thing, I'm just not buying it. It's all hype based on speculation, where some mystic people have thought of every possible avenue to draw up and connect every, and any possible association to make it all seem real.
There are some correlations to predicting planetary orbits, and the like, I'll give them that. as there were a lot more stars to look at all night long back then.
Let's face it...the Mayan dudes weren't magical wizards that could predict the future.
They all died out for the most part. Why didn't they just look into the future far enough to predict they were fucked and do something about it?
hmm

It's not just about the Mayans. That happens to be a really neat coincidence.
Read up on the novelty theory and technological singularity links I posted. It's
about mathematics and science...not just some ancient predictions.

We discuss religion in here all the time. This is no less valid.
Why are people fascinated by apocalypse? Pretty freakin' morbid if you ask me. After 2012 passes us by there'll be new apocalyptic theories, just as there always has been. Yuk.
It's actually much more valid. This is based on science and mathmatics.

Science > Religion = Hornet's Nest.
But I agree. Now: to read about it properly.
