I've loved Obama for the last four years...but it's pretty cool to see that the band shares my thoughts.
I realize by reading a few of your posts today that you are a righty...and that's fine...I'm a lefty... but my God...how can you just sit there and still believe in a failed policy?
McCain once poo-poohed Bush's reckless and incompetent Presidency ...now he adopts it?
I'ts time to go in another direction. You got any better ideas?????"Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"0 -
FinsburyParkCarrots wrote:Er, that's what's called being a politician.
And why is that acceptable?
Why this apathetic and defeatist mentality towards lying politicains who all play the same game and are all part of the same problem that has been destroying our country?
In some countries they take to the streets ...........demand their politicians are removed from office; if they don't follow through and live up to their "promises".
Maybe it is the acceptable standard of the people of the United States?
Or maybe it's more of a reflection of the overall morals, values and standards of the people who make of the United States?
Maybe these politicians are merely a reflection or a representation of what the people of this country have become. They are us, we are them?0 -
The United States constitute a small squib on the map of political history. Go back to Aristotle. I think Obama hits a good Aristotelian mean, really, as politicians go.0

That tells you something right there.
When politicians of such low character (such as Bush Jr, Cheney, Clinton, Bush Sr. and Reagan) are considered acceptable because of pragmatism; that tells you how low the people of this country have fallen.
It's our fault these politicians are the way they are and we are equally to blame for the criminal and devious actions and deeds they commit.
Only we can raise the standards, raise the expectations amd demand they be met.
Or are we too pre-occupied with American Idol and Britney Spears' emotional issues?0 -

Political philosophy dicates that people lower their expectations, lower their standards to scarey depths, make excuses and shrug their shoulders in acceptance?0 -

supposed 'pragmatism' just offers up a world of excuses with no accountability. And is the reason so many are complaining and unhappy with the gov't yet do nothing to change it. Congress has an approval rating of less than 20% and so does the president. You gotta wonder who is benefiting from this pragmatic strategy and how many are displeased with the outcome of it. It's the ideology of being powerless and adapting to circumstances instead of progressing towards more ideal situations. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

If so, then perhaps people should put down the text books for a moment and think up something that actually works for them, instead. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

Yeah! Gimme some more of that!

NMyTree wrote:Obama, his publicity campaign and his effect on many Americans is like one of those late night commercials for some goofy product (that always seems to come on TV when it's 2:30 AM and you're stoned).
It seems really neat, because they market and talk it up like it's the next best thing since sliced bread. Seems like it can do a thousand cool things and do it well.
So you get sucked in and buy into it.
Then you get a package, open it up to use it.
First time you try to use it, you realize it's just another worthless, flimsy piece of plastic which is useless, certainly not functional and that you won't accomplish a damn thing with it.
So you chuck into the back of your closet with the rest of your useless plastics gadgets. And it fits right in with the rest of the useless plastic crap; where it will sit for the next four to eight years. Till it's time to clean out your closet, again.
That is fucking awesome.
And dead on.everybody wants the most they can possibly get

Right. That's my whole point.
I mean........the answer here is " Well, it's pragmatic."
What the hell is that?
Oh okay, it's pragmatic. Guess I'll just shut up and accept it:rolleyes:
Are we the only ones who see this as a defeatist attitude and the response of the submissive? Pretty much an existence of servitude?
I don't know, maybe I have an attitude problem:D Maybe I'm more irritable and easily inspired to defiance; than others.
Or maybe my not consuming/digesting fluoride has something to do with it;)
Seriously though, people need to wake up and snap out of this malaise.0 -

I know that was your point...I was adding to it.

When I ask them if they have researched Obama's past record.....the issues/things he has voted for and voted against.....what he has supported and has not supported; they don't know. They start repeating whatever Obama has been saying on his campaign trail.
They don't realize that most of what Obama is claiming he is for and what he claims he will accomplish; is in a direct contridiction with what he has voted for, voted against and supported/not supported.
Make what you will of that.
But I know what I think about it.
I think the Obama haters are more obsessed than anyone!! It's scary really.
And you should really get over the fact that he voted for funding. When He starts pulling the troops out of Iraq, he doesn't want his hands tied. Your arguments are old.
And if you would look into his plans on education( a huge issue for many of us) you would see that he has some fantastic ideas. But you are to busy worrying about a funding vote that didn't matter. Even if he voted against the funding nothing would have changed. It would've been like a vote for Nader or McCain.

unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487If he goes on some Obama rant when I'm at one of these shows it will be the first time I actually boo the band. They will mix up those front row seats for sure. Ranting about Bush is fine, but even that gets old. Sing the songs, I go to the concerts for the music and to forget about things like politics. If I wanted to listen to politics I'd watch C-Span.0

Obsessed or concerned with the fact that he might be our commander in chief and we don't agree with his policies. Maybe that's not something that concerns you but I'm pretty sure most of you have been bitching about Bush for 7 years now. So this argument is very hypocritical and pretty weak.
And the war funding is a very big issues, especially to anti-war types. So please concern yourself with whatever you choose and we will do the same, thank you.If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.
