Just for clarification ... 30 million Christians, or 30 million evangelical Christians, or 30 million viewers of this guy when he's on tv? Because this guy certainly does NOT represent all of Christianity.

My husband is a devout Christian, and he's laughing right along with me at the sight of this jackass going down. The pastor who married us is gay, and I think you'd like most of the members of his congregation. I'm not a believer myself, but these are good people, and I know they're not the only Christians who are tolerant and compassionate.

That's all ... I agree with everything you've posted otherwise, I just wanted to clarify that one point.

i agree hippiemom, there are hundreds of millions of christians in the world, not all of whom believe in bigotry, hatred, homophobia, and whatever else this letch was selling.... HIS congregation is 14, 000 in his MAGACHURCH, but he has 30 million followers. this guy alone has 30 fucking million followers! those are the fools i refer to.

In that case, you'll get no argument from me! People who fall for this kind of crap are not only hateful, but stupid.

i went back to check the article and here is the exact wording.....

"The president of the National Association of Evangelicals resigned Thursday after denying an accusation by a male prostitute that the pastor paid him for sex over three years.

The Rev. Ted Haggard said he is also temporarily stepping aside from the pulpit of his church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, pending an internal investigation by the church.

The National Association of Evangelicals is an umbrella group for more than 45,000 churches and some 30 million members across the country"

so i suppose he may not preach to 30 million personally, but he does represent 30 million people who identify enough with what he is selling. again, it could not be more obvious that he does not believe what he is saying, he just makes a REAL good living, and enjoys enough power to have weekly meeting with the president of the united states of america. this money and power are given to him by spewing this nonsence. and those 30 million are the ones eating that nonsence up and providing him with that money and power to represent their viewpoints.... i have to stand by my "fools" comment.

    .

Thank You! 30 million is a BIG number and i'm guessing grossly exaggerated. Speaking as a Christian, i honestly don't think i've ever heard of this guy.

It is a big number, but according to the article, it's the number of people who were willing to operate under this guy's umbrella, which is a real shame.

But it's still nowhere near the total number of people who consider themselves Christians. I think it goes without saying that if I found a devout Christian who is willing to live with me, they're not all a bunch of right-wing kooks, lol.

  • I just think its funny that this guy is being accused of exactly what he preaches against.

There is lots of rhetoric in most of the news reports and statements here...I mean I seriously never heard of this guy and I am not outside the circle of evangelical churches. I just don't see his influence over 30 million or I would have known. So, I can't imagine there is one organization in this country that represents 30 million persons, that is 1 of ten people????

There is no person in this country that has that much power, so lets quit treating Christians as some sort of deaf and blind group of people out there in the red states that just are following everything Pat R and this guy Haggert do and say. Ok?

But, Wow, he likes his rear violated while cranked on meth; but his story is he just wants a massage from a gay prostitute every now and then, and did buy meth once but then threw it away cause " it was wrong"......And he is some sort of lead of an organization of evangelicals that has supposed influence with the White House (Rove), I mean if this is true and to me it is looking more that way, that is so rich....I mean this guy is possibly the total embodiment of a bad Christian hypocrite, evil neo con, whatever you can think of that i have been hearing from the left for years and have always felt was often unjustified...but this guy, all I can say is WOW.
