Is America still too racist to elect a Black President?

Had Colin Powell ran in 2000, he would've won. Granted I am not a Colin Powell fan at all, but I strongly believe he would've won.

That being said, I'm not a huge Hillary fan. Go Obama! Hey, if anyone can beat the "black man with the middle name Hussein" tag, it's him.0 -

I can't believe that you guys actually think that a woman could get elected in this country! It would be suicide for the Dems to nominate her. I know we would all love to believe that our country isn't like that and that we are advanced enough to put a woman in office...but the fact is that we aren't...won't happen“May you live to be 100 and may the last voice you hear be mine.” - Frank Sinatra0 -

In the long run, in order to keep a majority of a country that "won't elect a woman or African American" under their tent, the Republicans are going to have to go a little liberal. And, for a non-party affiliated liberal, that's better than nothing - and far better than two conservative parties.

Our country can't afford another 4 years of a Republican run goverment because the Dems want to prove a point and "lose on principle" thats bullshit.“May you live to be 100 and may the last voice you hear be mine.” - Frank Sinatra0 -

The Democrats tried to be all things to everyone when they organized Kerry's campaign. While I don't have a problem with Kerry, he'd have been far more electable had he appeared to be a little more "unelectable."0 -

YES... Unfortunately, the color of the skin is still a problem for many people who doesn't want to understand this has nothing to do with what's in the people' mind... Racism makes me sick !2006: Antwerp, Paris

Wouldn't you vote for him because
1. his skin is darker than yours, or
2. because you don't agree with his politic thoughts...
If 2, that's ok, but if you chose 1, sorry but that makes me sick...2006: Antwerp, Paris

According to some I may be although I am not. It is just as ugly to accuse people of being a racist as it is to be one. If Senator Obama somehow wins the nomination and loses the general then this accusation will be thrown around with absolutely no regard for the truth or any real reasons as to why he was not elected. Anyone who doesn't vote for him will open themselves up to being called a racist when race, for the majority of us, means nothing.0 -

i think america could elect a black president with a white vice president; but the president won't live long.0 -
RainDog wrote:Likewise, if Obama is nominated and wins the general, they'll be plenty of people saying "well, that's just because he's a good looking black man in a suit." It's a "no-win" situation for whomever becomes the first black (or non-WMA) president.
I fully agree with that. That hypothetical is just as sickening as the original post of this thread.0 -
But I'm sure there's just enough racisim tonot be able to elect a black president. You are probably more likely to see a white woman before a black man unless Dave Chapelle runs or something.Which came first,
the bad idea or me befallen by it?0 -

Both instances are wrong, but both are tried and true.0 -

Exactly.no matter where you go,
there you are.

There are no socialists in American politics! Do you know what a socialist is??
There aren't any people in the mainstream politics, I mean the people who actually get elected, who is left of center.
Every hear of Bernie Sanders, Lindsay? And you ask me what I want this year

Aren't they the exception rather than the rule? And, how do they compare to Obama. Putting them next to each other, would you consider Obama to be a socialist?0
