If America had 2 guys standing for election, one white, one black, is America still too racist to vote in the black guy? Particularly in the southern states I think people would vote for the white guy, because he's white.

No offense, but this is the most ignorant question one can possibly ask. Whats pathetic is...is that so many people believe it.

If hillary clinton ran against Clarance Thomas, who do you think would do better in the south?

If John Kerry ran against Condi, who do you think would win the south.

Seriously, one of the worst questions I've ever heard posed.

It seemed normal to me. I didn't see it as an outburst.. It's almost as if somebody turned it into what it wasn't to put him down.
  • I question whether America is racist enough to elect a black president.

Affirmative action being as powerful as it is, should a black president get free "affirmative action" votes for being black? Do we not do the same thing in college admissions and job placement?

All kidding aside, Obama's blackness should have nothing to do with the question at hand: is he qualified to run this country?

The answer is a resounding "no." He's a socialist!
All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

I remember when Jesse Jackson was running. There's no way I would've voted for him, white or black.

    Oh Whatever!

There are no socialists in American politics! Do you know what a socialist is??

There aren't any people in the mainstream politics, I mean the people who actually get elected, who is left of center. Oh... the center, where is that? Politics have shifted so far to the right, that even the center is on the right too! Left of center in US politics is an embarassement to real socialists.

Don't throw that word around and say that Barack is a socialist! Neither is Hillary Clinton by the way. They are all pro-business, pro-free-trade (and not the real free-trade, but the one-sided American version of it)

    Get real.

Geez, you guys are supposed to be the idealists....find an electable moderate with good speaking skills a decent campaign manager and you've got it. Bill Clinton got 8 years didn't he? Wasn't he the first black president?

Have a little fun why don't you. That's what America wants after 8 years of turmoil. That and a balanced budget, stable economy, control over their own retirement (ok the working crowd anyway I'm pushing it), and a lot less laws dealing with morality. I mean come on....why can we still not buy alcohol on Sunday in parts of the country?

All I'm saying is that if Obama or Hilary gets put for the Dem nom then they've just handed the presidency over to the republicans...again! This country (as sad as this is to say) will not elect a black president or a woman for president...it sucks I know, but thats the truth.

I beg to differ with Hillary. I believe that if Hillary runs anyone and everyone who loved Bubba in office would love for him to get back in one way or another. I think it's the Clinton loophole that will allow a Clinton in the White House for 16 years! A guy can hope right?

Even if the Republicans win, it's better to lose on principle. In the long run, in order to keep a majority of a country that "won't elect a woman or African American" under their tent, the Republicans are going to have to go a little liberal. And, for a non-party affiliated liberal, that's better than nothing - and far better than two conservative parties.

That being said, I'm not a huge Hillary fan. Go Obama! Hey, if anyone can beat the "black man with the middle name Hussein" tag, it's him.

I can't believe that you guys actually think that a woman could get elected in this country! It would be suicide for the Dems to nominate her. I know we would all love to believe that our country isn't like that and that we are advanced enough to put a woman in office...but the fact is that we aren't...won't happen

Our country can't afford another 4 years of a Republican run goverment because the Dems want to prove a point and "lose on principle" thats bullshit.

Not really. Even if we get a Republican president, it isn't likely we'll have a wholly Republican government for quite a while.

The Democrats tried to be all things to everyone when they organized Kerry's campaign. While I don't have a problem with Kerry, he'd have been far more electable had he appeared to be a little more "unelectable."

YES... Unfortunately, the color of the skin is still a problem for many people who doesn't want to understand this has nothing to do with what's in the people' mind... Racism makes me sick !

Wouldn't you vote for him because
    1. his skin is darker than yours, or
    2. because you don't agree with his politic thoughts...

If 2, that's ok, but if you chose 1, sorry but that makes me sick...

According to some I may be although I am not. It is just as ugly to accuse people of being a racist as it is to be one. If Senator Obama somehow wins the nomination and loses the general then this accusation will be thrown around with absolutely no regard for the truth or any real reasons as to why he was not elected. Anyone who doesn't vote for him will open themselves up to being called a racist when race, for the majority of us, means nothing.

My reasoning would be that I do not agree with his politics.

Likewise, if Obama is nominated and wins the general, they'll be plenty of people saying "well, that's just because he's a good looking black man in a suit." It's a "no-win" situation for whomever becomes the first black (or non-WMA) presidential nominee.

i think america could elect a black president with a white vice president; but the president won't live long.

I fully agree with that. That hypothetical is just as sickening as the original post of this thread.

But I'm sure there's just enough racisim tonot be able to elect a black president. You are probably more likely to see a white woman before a black man unless Dave Chapelle runs or something.
    Which came first,

How is that different from the people who voted for Bush because they saw him a man that "they could see themselves having a beer with"? He totally sold himself as a normal cowboy.

Both instances are wrong, but both are tried and true.

    are they mainstream?

Aren't they the exception rather than the rule? And, how do they compare to Obama. Putting them next to each other, would you consider Obama to be a socialist?
