Why are Alcohol sales in grocery stores on Sunday a big deal?

Uh, lets see, you can buy it the other 6 days of the week and the actual Sabbath is Saturday if that's your deal. Not to mention you can already purchase alcohol in restaurants. Oh I forgot that yes your right to not purchase alcohol on Sunday or any other day has been upheld since the beggining of this government.

The whole root of this law is in forcing people to comply with the ideals of a small group of religious zealots. There is absolutely no reason for it's existance.

why don't they want it to come up to a vote? Because they know it would freaking pass easily.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

Probably the same reason you don't get to see minge when in your strip clubs. The land of the free thing is just smoke and mirrors. :)

Can't you just stock up on Saturday? Hit the local bootlegger on Sunday?

I couldn't believe when conversing with somebody from the south that they don't import any booze in their parts. I couldn't imagine having to drink from a choice of a couple of beers knowing that there is a world of taste out there to be had. Now that I find strange.

Alcohol sales on Sunday a big deal? Shit, not since the local Rite Aid opened back up. Before that, I had to walk, like, four blocks instead of two.

Sorry, had to do it. Maybe God really was trying to punish us? :)

can I yes, I've been getting around it for years, I do stock up, but liberty is kind of my point and it's a silly law to begin with. I mean really, would you rather me get drunk in the restaurant or get drunk at my house? The local suds depend on the local clientele, if you're in the stix, you're getting Milwaukee and St. Louis's finest. In Atlanta you can get anything from anywhere you want, but I tend to favor the local brews from Terrapin and Sweetwater.

Oh and as for the strip clubs, they are totally nude in Atlanta anyway, the local jurisdictions have legislated them out so their congregations can go down to Atlanta where they won't be recognised by the local busy bodies. It's still semi pointless, but hey you get in free with your sporting event ticket stub. Game Over...Cheetah.

You should come hang out a week my friend. The hockey won't be as good as you are used to, but there are other attractions.

Liquor stores are not even allowed to be open on Sundays in Minnesota. No packaged alcohol at all. Though bars and restaurants, as you said, are still operating and selling drinks.

    It's ridiculous.
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.

Good to know the 'rippers peel like bananas down there too.

You know I am just funning with you. Except for the part where you don't get a choice in beer. I know your big cities have all the fun and games. But the small towns. Wow. I mean I went to Lynchburg to see the Jack plant and the place is (was) a dry county. Now how that adds up I don't know.

    Inconvenient!

Haha, I couldn't resist, I really don't care one way or the other, but your line reminded me of a show I once saw where they were sort of poking fun at this issue and one guy said to another guy why he can't just stock up the day before and he shoots the person and says "inconvenient". End of show.

Anyway, it was a cartoon type thing.

it's kind of depressing really, but what are you gonna do, our governor has imposed his own "Sin Tax" on smokes and booze. Oh well, at least Louisiana is only a few hours away.

Lynchburg being in a "dry" county is semi hilarious given the amount of stills in the hills (Kentucky makes much better whisky though anyway tennessee ruins it with charcoal)

yeah the small towns definately are various degrees of backwards. At times this is a very frustrating place to live.

Rome, Ga. Is one of the worst places to live when it comes to liberty I've ever been.

    it is! :)

we have to wait until 12.30pm on the Sunday to be able to buy booze from a store...

so all it means is you get a distinct whiff of stale piss until about 12.45pm...
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

It's funny, because where I live, alcohol can be sold in liquor stores only. We have the biggest liquor stores I've ever seen, some the size of large grocery stores. And they all have convenient drive through windows.

cos the christians are too weak in their convictions to actually resist temptation, so they just try to outlaw it.

Until I learned about blue laws, I thought I had it bad in LA. No liquor sales from 2 am to 6 am. How do you fill those 4 hours without a drink? :D

:D I thought that was ridiculous too... also calling NY 'the city that never sleeps' is bollox and false advertisement... cos you can't get a fucking drink ANYWHERE after 4am  unless you 'know someone'

They're still dry on election day! My poor daughter was living in Pittsburgh in '04 and couldn't even drown her sorrows. It's inhumane.

I'm so glad I live where I live. Even when all the stores are closed there are still night shops or you can probably find a vending machine that has beer in it.

Funny you mention this. When I was in Holland, we were at a hotel and they had a Heiniken machine. Screw Coke! I thought and still think it may have been one of the best sights on any trip I have taken. ;)
