Reported that U.N. officials are firing weapons in the air at random as gunmen storm the compound firing!

Too bad this wasn't the UN compound in New York! The UN is a fucking joke.

The U.N. is beyond joke status. It is pathetic!

The U.N is a fucking joke because countries like the U.S have prevented it from operating. The power of automatic veto needs to be withdrawn so that countries like the U.S will not be allowed to continue vetoing such things as a two state solution in the middle east.

You must be smoking some good shit if you think that was funny!! For example, the U.N recently voted for a ceasefire in the current middle East crises. This resolution was vetoed by the U.S. I don't see anything funny in that. In fact I think it's fucking sickening.

i saw a young David Beckham fan throwing stones into the UN compund in Gaza on MSNBC and Fox News.

I am glad they vetoed it. Those cease fires and U.N. resolutions have REALY worked well over the past years over there!!!

You just proved my point. Check out what those resolutions were and who vetoed them:

Perhaps you agree that resolutions condemning Aparthied in South Africa should have been vetoed by the U.S? And the modern day equivilent of apartheid taking place in the middle east is receiving the same support from the U.S as did the South African Apartheid regime. Some things never change!

so you're saying that if the UN voted for a ceasefire it would happen? Seriously, the UN is the most impotent organization in the world.

If the UN voted for a ceasefire and it was supported by the U.S, then of course it would happen. Israel is the 51st state of America. Britain is the 52nd.

Iraq was the US govt's excuse to trample the UN. And that they did. Another shining example from the land of the (cough) free... :(

There is no rationalizing with most on here with regards to the U.N. once again, it's all Americas fault. These people have an agenda and it's very clear.

No it wouldn't, because some militant group would break said ceasefire, as has happened so many times in the past.

Sorry, I must agree with the "UN is ineffectual" side on this one. Maybe if the UN wasn't simply used by Middle Eastern nations as an organized means to harass Israel, the latter and its American ally would take it a little more seriously. It runs both ways, as usual.

They need a ceasefire to calm all this down, pick up the injured and set up a discussion frame, but it's not in the agenda....

Said ceasefire won't happen until Hizbollah make some concessions as well ... Pretty simple, but everyone seems to think that the U.S. and Israel need to do all the work, which is not realistic.

once again, you've dodged the question and started on your rampage. again, please address the issue of how many times discussions and cease fires have worked there!!!!

i have not failed to dodge, i have dodge it, cause it's irrelevant, go back in 1968 if you want, i'm talking about now, Hezbollah representative said he'd agree to an unconditional cease fire, Israel are refusing it, even for humanitarian measure, they refuse, keep defending them...

they want a cease fire now huh? really? hmmm... I believe that! SO THEY CAN REARM!

I guess the wonderful hezbollah leader forgot the last u.n. worthless resolution that required hezbollah disarm.

oh, but he wants a cease fire.
