Texas Crowd Kills Man After Car Hits Kid

The Associated Press
AUSTIN, Texas | A crowd attacked and killed a passenger in a vehicle that had struck and injured a child, police said Wednesday.

Police believe 2,000 to 3,000 people were in the area for a Juneteenth celebration when the attack occurred Tuesday night. The man who was killed had been trying to stop the group from attacking the vehicle's driver when the crowd turned on him, authorities said.

The Austin Police Department identified the victim as David Rivas Morales, 40. The child was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police spokeswoman Toni Chovonetz said she had no further information, including how many people were involved.

The driver was able to get away is cooperating with investigators, police said.

Juneteenth marks the day Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston in 1865 to share news of the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed slaves two years earlier on Jan. 1, 1863.

Look at all the hatred when it's a government/atheist based celebration. Most of the worlds ills are due to governments/atheists. Does this murder count as a sacrifice made to the government and atheists??????

  • Death Penalty for the whole crowd. A few of them are bound to be guilty so it'll even out in the end.

All those death penalty supporters will be proud....
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

What in the holy hell are you talking about?

As for the crowd, I hope they're able to identify each and every "beater" and punish them accordingly. Oh, and the driver should probably be cited too. He did hit a kid after all.

P.S. This is perfect example of why emotion should not be used when considering "justice". Whenever it involves a child people are going to immediately become blindly furious. They killed the passenger for fucks sake, not even the motherfucker driving the car!

Well, they can't really prove he was going to leave until a group of people with death in their heads started to move on him.

We all know that if this was an Easter Parade and the same thing happened I'd have to put up with all th ebullshit posts about how bad religion is and how what hypocrites they all are. Well here's a non-religious event and the outcome.

Kind of a strange story, isn't it? That the crowd killed the passenger and not the driver? IMO it looks like this crowd let their emotions run amok. What a shame... on a personal level, at least.

The worst part of this whole story, however, is the reaction of the posters in this thread. Somehow Vedderlution has the gall to ask for the death penalty. Strange, for sure. Vedderlution is condemning emotions run amok, yet he's guilty of it just as much as the attacker(s) in the crowd.

"How dare they let their emotions run amok! They deserve to die!" I hope I'm not the only one who findss irony in that.

My post was complete sarcasm. I am totally against the death penalty. It's my fault for refusing to use smilies. But trust me, I wish there was no death penalty at all.

Nope, sorry. Still don't know what you're talking about. Bad Religion's a kick ass band, though.

This scenario isn't enough to prove all humans are violent. Neither are individual murders or mob hits or wars.

It's incredibly easy to condemn all of humankind for the actions of a few, but it's impossible to prove that position. The only reason that you could arrive at that conclusion is by:

    1) Analyzing all the bad events. I do it as much as anyone else because it's easy.

    2) Ignoring all the good things. This one is easy because nobody cares about good deeds enough to call it news.

It's an event to celebrate the emancipation proclamation. not a gathering of atheists. I still don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

I know what you mean and I agree. I see that people (including myself) only look at the negative in life and not the positive events taking place. And the actions of a few cannot generalize humans. I'm just upset with the way some people chose to live their lives.

That's right, the emancipation proclomation, a government event. Given the seperation of church and state it's an atheist event.

O.K. So, I think I know where you're going here. Um. At what point did people on this board cheer the actions of the crowd? Shit, at what point did anyone take even an ambivalent attitude toward the crowd?

And who the fuck said the government was atheist?
