Just found this video - it's pretty eye-opening when they put it like that.

I didn't even realise just how many vetoes the US has made against UN resolutions on issues such as pro-human rights, anti-apartheid, anti-biological and bacterial weapon development, not to mention anti-Palestine. Makes you wonder how they could justify some of these!
"We have to change the concept of patriotism to one of “matriotism” — love of humanity that transcends war. A matriarch would never send her own children off to wars that kill other people’s children." Cindy Sheehan

  • They don't hate the country, and it's people, so much as it's politics and foreign policy. Big difference. Same reason that anti-Zionism is not anti-Semetic. Actually it's the exact opposite, it's really pro-semetic.

Corrupt governments that want to take over and control the world is the problem. It's driven by corporate greed.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,

Not really eye opening...sorry. Just a bunch of the same political, rhetoric bullshit.
Makes you wonder??? Do you have any idea how fucked our gov't is in terms of vetoes????? It is sick. Some idiot can just attach any bullshit agenda to a bill just so it WILL be vetoed and it probably has nothing to do with said bill.
Believe me, we know everyone in the world hates "us" but this video is not going to educate anyone. Sorry. Unless they have been living under a rock.
And asking a bunch of Canadien teenagers their opinion is reallly groundbreaking....

Think I pretty much agree with you Roland. :)

I don't hate Americans, the people, the culture or the country. I am tired of the Americanization of my country though. I think a lot of what we see go on is more to do with American administration being the mouthpiece for other organizations like the World Bank. Lot of behind the scenes shit going on that the average person can't even begin to comprehend even supposing that information was available to us anyway. I think the European big wigs have a lot to answer for too but they seem to like letting America be the one in the spotlight and therefore under scrutiny.
    NOPE!!!

I made it through about 2:17 of the video and decided life it too short.

I wonder what kind of insecure people worry about what Canadian teenagers think of them. I know I couldn't give less of a shit.

Except for it's not someones opinion, it's all documented fact. Big difference. It's the international viewpoint of US foreign policy as well. Another rather large difference.

It's documented fact about opinions. Not really a big difference. My lack of caring about the facts about the opinions of Canadian teenagers still stands. Sorry if I inadvertantly deflated the fragile egos of Canadian teenagers but honesly, who cares. And how boring was that video?

Documented fact of opinions? Um...no you got it wrong there altogether. Most likely because you tuned out, and dismissed it after a couple minutes.

You seem to be lacking in US foreign policy 101.

I have no idea what you're trying to say. There was a slide talking about forty-something percent of Candadian teens and sixty-something percent of Quebec teens who thought the US was a force of evil. That percentage is a FACT. That FACT (the percentage) relates to the OPINIONS of Canadian teens. Get it?

I think he was referring to my comment about not giving a flying hoot about what Canadian teenagers think. I think.
You know, I can hate China because they have repeatedly gone against world bans on poaching the african elephant, but I don't.
Or the fact that they have one of the top 4 most polluted cities in the world. And they are destroying the environment at an alarming rate .And poaching turtles which are so important in maintaining an environmental balance.

I was referring to the latter portion with regards to vetoing and the list of conflicts. I though you were referring to some teenager had made the vid.

You have a point, but if China (or any other country) was promoting and carrying out suspicious wars with other countries they would also invite criticism by the world community.

You know what?? More people should cast a critical eye on China for the very reasons I stated.
And what about Ahmad Harun and Ali Kushayb?? For crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Darfur, Sudan? Or does no one give a shit about the genocide being commited there. Though I am embarassed to say that apparently my gov't doesn't give a shit.

Every country has their own internal problems to deal with. China has a pretty serious overpopulation issue, yet they are not out plundering for new land, or seeking to secure foreign resources for themselves by military force. It would seem pretty unusual if China, or Germany, or any other country interfered and picked sides in the US civil war. Unheard of really. I really question the whole world cop thing.

Well, the Three Gorges Dam isn't doing anything to help their over population issue, now is it? Actually it is displacing over 1 million people.

Actually Roland I think they are doing exactly that, they're just not utilizing the same tactics. They may not be making a big song and dance about it but China is doing some horrific things both in their own country and to other countries. It just seems that the rest of the world is suitably fearful enough of them that they let the sleeping dragon lie.

The difference between people like yourself and most educated political minded individuals, is that while I dislike your govenrments foreign policy, you dislike entire countries and the actual people themselves. This is a self defeating and backwoods mindset.

I don't hate the US, I think it's an over simplified comment. I pretty much have no time for any government, or wannabe government, whichever country they happen to be in. Democracy has been overun by beaurocracy...it doesn't matter how much you complain to a body...there's always enough layers of red tape to make you think..."ah fuck it"!
    And, that,.... is the plan.
    I'm convinced of it.
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

There's a saying in the sports world "hate the players don't hate the game"

For you it seems to be about hating the game. That's unfortunate, and it's all yours and for yourself....not mine

im just saying that if anyone really wants to know why the us isnt very popular on the international scene, this video is not the one to explain it. it's not very sophisticated or intelligent and doesn't really tie together its premises, so it's not especially informative or convincing.
