I feel like he had a chance as VP to help make some big changes and blew it. Perhaps he wasn't as informed and impassioned at the time as he is now, I don't know. I just see Cheney's influence in the current admin and didn't see that so much with Gore.
consider the president in each situation - clinton is a very capable man...bush was electable...
i don't think the world was ready for what gore has been championing lately...now, we are...hopefully...gore would have been a good president in '00...and, i feel, he will be even better now...
why gore? as i have said...i don't feel hillary and obama have a chance in hell to win the election...so, i would rather see a logically viable candidate with the political might and intelligence to go up against the rep. machine.

Good points.

Oh yes, I don't let the media or anyone else tell me who is electable.

Absolutely!! It always pisses me off when I tell people I voted for Nader and they say it's a wasted vote. Did you see the Jon Stewart interview with him?He is still taking shit for it. I hate that!!! It is anybody's right in this Democratic society to vote for who they want!

Gore has been championing the end of the world in approximately 9 years. I wasn't ready for it then, nor am I ready for it now.

the fact is - you're right - we do have a right to vote for whoever we choose - but, the way it is, now, we are only cacpable of voting for TWO people...that's BULLSHIT!

At one point Ross Perot had 39% of the American people's support. Better than Bush (31%) and Clinton (25%) until he dropped out of the race for a few weeks. Cold feet? Maybe... But, as for the voting system, a third party candidate is more than viable.

It is bullshit. And the parties cater usually towards the middle to get as many votes as they can. Its funny to me that they cater to the middle yet people are so polarized so Democrat or Republican. Why can't you be Pro Choice and Pro life? I know I am opening a can of worms but really...:)

I remember that. It goes both ways. Many people said Perot was taking conservative votes in the election Clinton won.

Well, obviously he was taking votes from someone if Bush and Clinton were supposed to be the only two candidates running for office. But, there were three. So believing someone was taking votes from another candidate is just a hypothetical fantasy. If people want more than two candidates to choose from then don't complain about third party candidates taking votes from one of the two main party candidates.

True. I was only stating that according to some voting for Nader ruined the election for Gore. I am stating that same thing could almost be said for Perot on the other side with Bush. I am not complaining about third party candidates.

All depends if you're a liberal or not. Here, that argument is relevant. But, it's hard to convince any cognizant voter that Nader ruined an election for a man who won the popular vote... Wouldn't you think so?
Because here in these forums, a man that wins the popular vote should be President!
It's almost sickening to see how easy it is to argue from a liberal's point of view.

I can understand why people bitched about it, but the electoral college is our system and is in the Constitution and many people have no idea how it works. Now we have a war with people dying from our country, because of our country, to presumably make us safer.
Could Gore have done better?? Who knows? Hard to imagine though we would be in a stickier situation than the one we are in now. But maybe in the long run...

Anyway, I wasn't be derogatory. I was merely wanting you to explain what you meant with the nonsense response because you claimed that third-party candidates are viable (they are not) and then didn't respond to me in a coherent fashion. And, I must add, I'm from WV, so anything I say about someone else's lack of ability in grammar and american english is null and void.
I mean we are engaged in a conflict overseas where we usurped a dictator and people are dying because of our actions, and our given reason of weapons of mass destruction, is yet to be found. Would people be dying over there because we didn't go? Maybe sure. But invading another country has its consequences on its civilian population. Both directly and indirectly as the internal conflict is showing us.

You couldn't be more wrong. Most third party candidates have not been viable, true. That doesn't mean third party candidates are not viable. Perot was more than viable. Actually, the third party candidate in the election of 1912 had already served a full term in the White House. There's nothing nonsensical about that. Instead it makes your statement a complete farce.

1. WMD was not the sole reason for removing Saddam. Many tons of remnants have been found. As for a working WMD, no, none have been found, reguardless of the fact we have direct evidence he had been using them on his own people.
2. Would people be dying if we wouldn't have gone in? 300,000 dead Iraqi's think so. That's just the one's we know about.
3. Speaking of invading other countries. It's believed that roughly 1.5 million Iraqis died as a direct result of the sanctions Saddam imposed on himself after the invasion of Kuwait. See #2

Considering Gore couldn't even carry his home state of Tennessee and was the first major party candidate since McGovern in 72 to not win his home state, why would he win now?
I mean if he just would have won Tennessee, Florida wouldn't have even mattered, but most people forget about that.
