Go ahead and try...I bet it ends with "Death to Israeli Occupation". ;)

Seriously, when dealing with nukes, who cares what someone thinks about dinosaurs and whether or not they wear lipstick. It's all a distraction.

People who believe dinosaurs existed 4,000 years ago tend to hold a dispensationalist world view. A cornerstone of that view is that the Rapture will occur in the very near future, making the preservation of the earth a tertiary concern at best. People who believe they've nothing to lose are more likely to "pull the trigger." Add a belief that you are doing God's work, that our wars are guided by God's hand, and you have one dangerous finger on the button.

Of course, she might not actually believe any of that. She might just be trying to get the votes of people who do, and once in office she'll be Mrs. Rational Rock.

But can we really take that chance? ;)

Even though his opinion is only being recorded and noticed because he is an actor, it doesn't make it invalid.

I feel as he does about this vice-presidential pick. It was made to help McCain's campaign but it was NOT made with the country's best interests in mind. No one in their right mind could think that McCain honestly thought she'd be the best person to replace him should he die suddenly!!

Everthing I've read about her mayorship is BAD. She couldn't even run a small town well! How in the world does that make her remotely qualified to stand in for a president?!!

    This always backfires.

I'm pretty sure Obama doesn't want a "vote for change" tour. Celebs acting like they know more than the average voter is what bothers me. They are totally entitled to their opinion. But, their vote is worth the same as mine and yours. They are also entitled to speaking out. But, bashing the opponent is where they lose me and in my opinion, a large amount of other people.

I really think that this behavior only rallies the opposition. But, I also don't think it will stop. These people love to hear themselves talk and love to think of themselves as a person who knows things.

    this isn't celebrity double speak

Matt Damon was reading Howard Zinn when he was 10 years old - he was his neighbour - he's also financially backing The People Speak

I just heard him speak at the TIFF during a preview of the movie - he's got a very educated point of view and not only do I enjoy listening to what he has to say - I agree with him
He is very well educated. check his credentials.

Where exactly is it that he is acting like he knows more than the average voter? It was HIS OPINION of her.. and the things that scare him about this choice as VP.

Very well written and very realistic! Scary scary times! We must keep church and state seperate, and I have a sick feeling in my gut about this and this woman.

    Yeah...

Well...until the day comes when I have a camera in my face asking me point blank what "I think about Sarah Palin". I guess I'm going to have to rely on Actors, Musicians, and Artists to voice these opinions on my behalf.

At least I'm not brainwashed by the false waterhead Flag humping propaganda that's got all you Neo Cons all hard and purple over some abhorantly under-qaulified Soccer Mom from Alaska.

I don't fear a McCain presidency as much as I fear for a Palin Presidency.

    God help us all.

I wish musicians and actors would just shut up about politics, I rather enjoyed the Bourne Trilogy and Good Will Hunting, in fact Damon is one of the few actors that I am a fan of. I become less of a fan when they whine and cry about politics.

You have an opinion on politics, I have an opinion on politics and he has an opinion on politics.

I don't see a problem other then actors and musicians have a larger audience to voice there opinion and we don't. But its shallow to me to let that effect the enjoyment of the art these guys produce.

you're right, there's no way an artist could make an intelligent point about politics. but your pastor or the local redneck barfly... now we're talking intelligent politics!

i've never understood why everyone is allowed to talk about politics... EXCEPT anyone famous whose art has proven so relevant and meaningful in describing the struggles we face in our own lives.

First, chillax man. You're obviously passionate about the Democratic Party's candidate. That's awesome. But, there's no need to send out a response to every one of my posts just because I'm not completely on board with the pro-Obama chants and I'm trying to look at things objectively. I'm serious when I say that I really believe (yes I'm entitled to an opinion too) that Obama probably wants the celebs to just shut up because it only helps rally the opposition.

Second, I said "celebs" acting like they know more than the average voter. Yes, a lot of them have gone out and said things like "YOU need to educate YOUrselves ect".... that's acting like "they" know more than the people they are talking to. Maybe I wouldn't feel that way if they said WE. He didn't necessarily say that here, but I was talking about things on a larger scale and that's why I used the plural (celebs). Anyway, I also said that "bashing" the candidate is where they lose me. He didn't do that the whole time, but he did throw some jabs at her in this video, that in my opinion, were not very objective at all.... they were shots at her for being a hockey-mom. I'm sure all the soccer moms ect, will love that. I can hear Obama saying to himself, "What a dumb-ass".

I guess I could understand if someone was walking around saying Vote or Die or some shit like that, but what do you want Damon to do? He was asked a question about the political scene and he stated his opinion.

I'm not asking him to do anything different. I have an opinion about his opinion. I think that stuff like this only helps McCain. It's just an opinion.

I'd love to see an actor or actress or rock star ect. say something like this when asked about an election...

interviewer: "so (actor) what are your thoughts on the election?"

interviewee: "I most certainly have a political opinion. But, you know what they say about discussing religion and politics, right?"

interviewer: "well that's at the dinner table.."

interviewee: "yea, well I kind of think a large amount of people (probably half) will be turned off by me beating up their candidate. I have an opinion just like anyone else and you know what... I'll tell you, I'm voting for Obama. But, that's as far as I'm going. I don't see a need when I'm an actor to act as though I know more or my votes more valuable than a janitor in Oregon or a truck driver in Michigan in regards to this election. I have an opinion and a vote and will be voting for Obama. But, I'm not jumping up on a soap box trying to convince others to do as I do. They work for their home and their government, they pay their tax money, they are entitled to their opinion without having some actor say they are wrong. My opinion is Obama's best for the job. That said, I respect the other point of view as well. "

****This will never happen, but if it did, I'd have a deep respect for that person.

Fair enough; I didn't really get a "I'm smarter than everyone else" vibe from Matt Damon. I got a "I believe strongly that this woman and the McCain candidacy is a bad thing for our country, and considering I was just asked I'll state my opinion" vibe. But I can see your point. I'm just worried that if I ever fulfill my dream of become a popular musician one day, people around the country would get pissy everytime I wrote, spoke or sang about political or social issues I felt were important to me.

    Here's an example.

    Ed.

He's been blatant and personal. And at times he's also been clever and that gets people thinking. I'd say Bushleaguer was dumb. But, Worldwide Suicide was not. Both political. Both political. But, one showed more artistic thought provoking lyrics. This is just my opinion though. I know a lot of people love Bushleaguer. Actually, even I listen to it. But, I think it was too direct and just an all out bash. Ed's better than that. I believe he showed that on the Pearl Jam albulm. Once you start "attacking" directly I think you lose a bit of credibility. So, when you get famous. Be political. Just not direct and in your face. Make people think about the issues. Like evenflow. Like Marker in the Sand. Like Worldwide Suicide. ect.

Seriously dude do not assume you know that I am so "passionate about the Democratic Party's candidate".. yes, I think Obama will do a fine job as president, is he my dream president? No.. but I fully intend to vote for him and support him. Is John McCain truly your dream president? Lets just be honest.. there are things wrong with both of these men and especially the one woman on board.

What I am passionate about is this woman who has no right and or experience being on this ticket. She has not EARNED IT. I think it is disgusting.. I think it is pandering and quite frankly I think it is an insult to SANE women out there who have a brain and will not fall for the "she is so relatable" bullshit.

I think it is a slap in the face to America to have this women be possibly the next president. It is personally terrifying to me the more I learn about her. I think it is EXTREMLY irresponsible of him to put her on this ticket.

Not only is she unqualified.. and yes she truly is.. you can argue all day how she has the same qualifications as Obama.. BULLSHIT.. some high schools have more people than the town of Wasilla.. and the entire state of Alaska has less people than the city I live in.. her qualifications are ridiculous for her to be ready as commander-in-chief.

And the reason I respond to your posts is because I usually totally disagree with what your posts contain. It truly is nothing personal, just opinion.. which you and I both are entitled to. All of us on this board put a message out there and we assume someone is either going to argree or disagree with it.

I think you are overly dramatic about it, looking for yet another way to be offended by the Evil conservatives. If he qualifications for VP are so bad, then Obama surely isn;t qualified for President.

Maybe, but millions and millions of people decided that Obama is ready to be President. Only one person decided that Sarah Palin is.
