i've looking for this to show u , a Duchamp peice , i'm not sure why or what the left side of the pic is , plz just look at the right side . the door that can be simualtainusly open and closed love it. guess I'm just a readymade surealist at heart LOL
his work IS truly amazing, thanks for the links. i have seen a good deal of his glasswork in person, beautiful, and such skill.
thank you too, for posting a few crafts out there, definitely within the confines of the arts absolutely. i think far too often they are ignored, and wrongfully so.
any work created with true vision and an artful eye, brilliant stuff.

wow! d2d, V V, Mookie, you are most welcome!!! :D:D
it's a pleasure to share these beautiful works with talented artists and art lovers such as yourselves...
we've got quite the passionate group here... an Art Wall posse of sorts... spreading knowledge and appreciation of art and artists....
let's keep it up!!!
~~*~~ ...i surfaced and all of my being was enlightend... ~~*~~
my mom actually has a Klimt "theme" in her new living room (lol! kinda...)
she happened to find an area rug which looks very much like a part of this painting... it looks fantastic with her new, sleek, black sofas and gold and aubergene walls!
~~*~~ ...i surfaced and all of my being was enlightend... ~~*~~
Mookie - thanks for posting this link! I really want to check it out, but i'm a little afraid of looking at it at work... that would be a tough one to explain to coworkers passing by...
I saw the Miami Ink episode with Rose ... Garver did an amazing job!
OK, let's face it... i've seen EVERY episode ... I'm totally addicted to this show, and am tempted to head down to Miami to have one of the guys tattoo me! (maybe a PJ tatt for my 30th birthday??)
~~*~~ ...i surfaced and all of my being was enlightend... ~~*~~
Mookie! your Mark Ryden stuff just reminded me of an adorably macabre illustrator named Edward Gorey.
Among other things, he has this series of characters called The Gashleycrumb Tineys... and this is his Alphabet Book, a copy of which adorns my coffeetable... :
If, like me, your mother forced you watch the PBS show "Mystery" when you were a child, you might recognize his work as the animation during the opening credits.

ahhhhhh....venice!
i have always wanted to go, i have only been to florence....eh, someday. yea, i much prefer his monlithic work, i adore the monumental scale. i also really enjoy his mobiles too. then again, i just love kinesthetic art in general.
edward gorey, good call....i love his alphabet series. sick little minds. haha.

thanks for sharing these, especially the a-z alphabet book. i love it!
i wasn't forced to watch "mystery", so now i'm sorry i missed out!
i have to say that i'm addicted to mami ink as well...you mentioned that before. those guys do some amazing work. garver's "rose" was unbelievable!...it made me look into mark ryden's work. i had heard his name before, but didn't recall seeing his stuff. "rose" is now one of my favourites.
i also enjoy mini documentaries on tattooing that you see every once in a while on channels like the discovery network. i like hearing the stories behind the tattoos and their meaning. i think that, and the fantastic artwork, is what draws me to miami ink. they actually make an effort to tell you the story behind each tattoo and its meaning. some of the more recent shows have seemed a little "scripted", though, if you know what i mean...so i hope they don't stray away from the original concept too much.
i only have my shoulders covered so far...but i have a few plans for a few more tats...when i get the designs the way i want them...i hope to one day get one done the "old fashioned" way...with the little tapping hammer and needle with black ink. i think one of the guys on the show has one done that way.
"Friends" and "Spring Flight" are absolute favorites....
Speaking of tattoos, my sister wanted to get Spring Flight as a tattoo on her shoulder blade, but backed out because she felt it was somehow taking advantage of the art, and that it was inappropriate to display a Native Canadian image, when she herself was not Native Canadian....
What do you think about getting tattoos from other cultures? are you honouring them? or 'posing'?
This goes for japanese symbols, hindi symbols, etc...

beautiful work! i love the fact that it is so sensual, graphic and abstract in form...yet offers just enough realism to fully appreciate the forms he is emulating. i also would agree....spring flight really is eye-catching.
in regards to your Q...i would have to say i am of the feeling that it is a bit of a 'poser' thing to do. i see many with japanese characters, etc, without any heritage, just think it's 'cool', whatever. that said, i am sure for some, it is meant with reverence and honor, so a tough call. besides the fact, a tattoo is a very personal thing. so all should do what makes them happy.
in regards to your sister, i see no reason for her not to get that tattoo. for me, that does not encompass any truly native symbolism per se. probably all the more why i so love it - it is refreshingly modern, yet real too, more about the artist's view and art than anything else, imo.
indeed.
reminds me of a cubist franz marc. similar style and colors. although marc focuses mostly on animals, bit more sensual shapes. then again, hhe was an expressionist painter, and thus stands to reason.
here's a listing of some of his paintings to view. his yellow cow porbably one of his most famous paintings.

thank you so much for sharing this site CEG. there are some astoundingly beauitful examples of ojibwa art there. some gorgeous stuff. a couple of cecil youngfox's pieces really remind me of the mi'kmaq style that we have here on the east coast.
Since I grew up in the 80's, I would have to say that Mr. Haring is my favorite. I once was at Block 34 in Chicago where he completed a painting with children there. I went up to it and actually touched it! LMAO! I had no idea that it had an alarm on it!!! I almost was escorted by guards out of there! I turned to them as they walked up and said, "Keith would have wanted me to touch this you know!"

V V, you got me thinking about surrealism today, and I remembered my favorite piece...
Metamorphosis of Narcissus
Besides being a very cool painting, I think it wins for best title... say it out loud... Metamorphosis of Narcissus... it just rolls off the tongue!!
Very cool open & closed door by the way - I'm curious as to where the other door opening leads... hmmmm....
never heard of him b4 , and i loved the A-Z just brilliant thank u xx
