Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

phenomenal work! thanks for sharing that link abook. it's eerie...but i have a sketch that i had planned to turn into a painting that is virtually identical to "grass roots"... the only difference being that mine had a clock in it and the fingertips are turning to sand...otherwise, as i said, eerily identical...
Holy shit! I'm glad this guy found an outlet through his paintings. I hate to think how he'd express himself otherwise. Great stuff though. Scary as hell.

beautifully twisted, isn't it?

Mary Pratt - a canadian painter of realism... i was facinated by her stuff which i saw at the McMicheal... I stared at it up close and still couldn't beleive it was painted.... and I love that her subject is often raw meat...
These three hang in my kitchen:

talk about dreamlike imagery....gorgeous.....
cool! this one is at the Art Gallery of Ontario, here in Toronto....
what i love about this sculpture is how well "loved" it looks.... see the bronze at the bottom of circular opening?? how it's all worn smooth and shiney? That's from people sitting on it, and sliding off... it's a great sculpture to climb around and through...
yes, my butt is one of those that have polished that bronze...
haha! that one of the chickens is pretty "raw", huh? actually, the reason i have that one in my kitchen is becuase i have a Coca-cola theme in my kitchen, and when I saw one of Mary's painting with a Coke box in it, i had to print it out!!
i couldn't find any decent pictures of his work... i wish he had his own website... but here's something:

I have about a dozen of his pieces scattered about my living room...

great stuff! i love really well done pottery, one of my fave crafts. when i was up in edmonton for pj i stayed on a few days, checked out many of the local galleries. i bought a beautiful silver box and a gorgeous pottery vase, all made by local artists. i love supporting the local art community in any place i visit, best kind of souvenir you can possibly get imho.
i'll second that gluten!
pipe down over there! ...seriously though, that's very kind of you!
i just looked, i was close. meret openheim. don't know where i got the barbara from, but i am impressed with myself that i had the last name so close. ha. i was pretty sure it was called fur cup, but i stand corrected: luncheon in fur 1936.
maybe u were thinking of barbara hepworth ?

quite possibly. also, there is a genius female graphic artist, barbara kruger, so who knows. i am amazed that i remember any artists' names anymore, far, far, far too many rattling around my head.
another fave painter, another surrealist, belgian, rene magritte:

not the best reproduction. much more luminous, and sharp - haha - elsewhere, but the only image i could manage to copy/paste here.
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow
