I hope it's real too. Wonder how many shows they'll play. Two at Vector? What about Wellington?

Things are looking good for a tour, right? Some big announcement on The Rock tomorrow at 7.15, can it be Pearl Jam? I haven't heard any real rumours locally so far...

OK, I guess I was reaching. Announcement was for The Rock's 18th birthday Legal Tender tour with Luger Boa, Airbourne, Living End and Shihad in October. If there's going to be an announcement on Wednesday, how is it that there's no local rumours? Does no one care anymore? It's been 11 long years, have people forgotton? PJ is still pretty popular on The Rock at least I thought...

    .........feels like I'm dreaming a bit.....or am I?

Will they come here? Or only Australia? The tweet only mentions vegemite.....but still my hopes are up

Lets look at the cold hard facts: one of Ed's early musical influences is Split Enz. Not to mention that Liam has been opening for his last 2 solo tours. How many more kiwi connections do they need I wonder

It's not as if it's much more of a mish to skip over the tasman. eleven years! come on!

would it be vector? I guess it would have to be. Dunno if the TSB in wellington would hold enough, only 5000 there (and not the best sound quality either at times). I can't think of anywhere else in welly they could play - so if it was welly, and the tsb, it would be a nice, intimate gig (sigh). I've never been to vector but imagine it's huge. anyone know the capacity?

and do tenclub ticketing rules apply here? see how ahead of myself I'm getting, can't help it.

Have decided if it's only australia then it will be me making the little skip over the tasman. But i'd much rather see those boys here on my turangawaewae, 14 years after I saw them play their first ever NZ concert. Any one else there, mt smart supertop, 1995? I still have my ticket, and often recall how I nearly died in the mosh pit at the front (not exagerating, was 15 and waaaaay ignorant and too stubborn to listen to the security guys telling me to get out) now I'm 30 and think it's pretty amazing that the band and I seem to have grown up together, one would expect to outgrow the music of their adolescence. I'm really grateful for the help I've gotten through PJ's music. trying my best not to be too corny!

have joined 10c for the ticketing mission - whether aus or not i'm gonna fight for my right to pearl jam

getting sick of checking to see if any news so thought i'd see what other kiwi jammers i can find

you'll hear my excited yelling if they do anounce NZ gigs

dunno how much more patience i can draw upon...still dreaming....

Sure was - first concert I ever attended. Me and my mates from high school stayed down the back because we were too chicken to go anywhere near the mosh pit, then spent the whole night wishing we were up the front (which we were when they came back in '98). The whole night was a blast - from Ed opening with "Throw Your Arms Around Me" to the band closing with "I Got You" it kicked arse... even if Ed forgot the lyrics to Rats halfway through (thank god Stone remembered and could remind him). I still have a photo from that night - my old guitar teacher's sister was a photographer covering the gig, so he hooked us up with one of her photos taken from the photo pit. Good times... I got a bootleg of the show last month, and didn't even realize they'd played "Lukin" that night... I'd forgotten all about that 50 seconds of insane yelling by the time No Code came out lol

Did you catch the Ericsson Stadium show too?
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

No! No Ericson for me, so as it stands now that supertop concert was my first and last Pearl Jam live experience. The Ericson clashed with my Mums 50th (and I still tried to go and Mum said she'd disown me if I did) he he The thing I'm really not sure of is how the whole 10c thing will work if they do announce NZ gigs (man I'm soooo ridiculously excited) I hope that my 10c membership will be enough, as I only joined yesterday on the hunch that if it was only Aus gigs announced I'd be lucky to get tickets perhaps

There is a bootleg of our Mt Smart concert??!! Yea I totally remember Rats. I was so stoked when Neil and Tim came out, that was the first I knew of Split Enz' influence on Pearl Jam. I also saw Ed play at the St James with Neil Finn and friends, to this date that stands as the most amazing live gig I've ever been to (possibly it beats the supertop cause there was no life or death mosh pits involved)

Good work Kiwi jammers! Now I will be totally devestated if it's only Aus gigs announced, well kind of, it will just mean a holiday over there as long as I can get the tickets...but as I say, I think it's time PJ returned to Aotearoa, I think we deserve it, and so do they!!

Sure is - do a Google search, or PM me if you want to know where to find it. The sound quality is crap though, so be warned. It was recorded by a fan in the crowd, so it's all muffled and you can barely make out the words... and on top of that it sounds like the tape gets chewed up during the first half of Last Exit. That being said, it's our show, and sound quality be damned it's still an awesome trip down memory lane (I actually kinda like the bad quality - 1995, baby!).

Sorry to hear you missed Ericsson... don't know if you remember or not, but Ed almost died the day before the Supertop show because he got caught in a rip while surfing at Piha. At the Ericsson show, they brought the lifeguards who saved him on stage so he could thank them in front of everyone... they presented him with a life jacket, and he wore it during "Yellow Ledbetter." Awesome.

I hope NZ gets at least one show in this announcement - 11 years is a long wait between drinks. Though that being said, I live in the States now and I still haven't seen them since Ericsson - fat lot of good moving out here did, eh?

Have you been to any Vector shows? Is the sound quality as bad as I keep hearing it is?

It would've happened in 06 if Vector was finished, they'll be here for sure. Capacity is 12,000 I think but that might be standing on the floor, it's likely to be seated as the Australian shows have been so somewhat less than that. I'd have to say they'll play 2 shows in Auckland, how can they not? They always play 2 in Auckland ;) At least there were 2 shows scheduled in 98, check the poster! I guess someone forgot to tell them they were playing the Stadium, not the Supertop again.

I was there in 95 and 98. I have my ticket from 98 framed with my poster, but my ticket in 95 ended up looking like it had been through the washing machine thanks to the pit. To this day, still the worst (best) mosh pit I've ever been in.

Hey all. Long time. Some of you may remember me. I posted this in a seperate thread but copy it here. This is what I know:

...Looks like we are finally getting a show or two. The word seems to be that there was consideration given to playing one show at Western Springs (which does raise the question, why was this rejected in 03/06), but the feeling is that PJ may not sell that out and so it looks like 2 shows at Vector.....
  • topaztopaz Posts: 301

No, haven't personally been to Vector, but heard bad things from friends who have. Interesting that they are considering Western Springs, which I think can hold upwards of 50,000 in the fields. Vector holds 12,000 ( i think) so perhaps they will do 2 x vector? Ah I love all this speculation. 50,000 is probably too much for them to sell out and sound quality would most likely suffer at such a large open space.

Wonder if they'd do any other NZ cities??

    When is that announcement already?!
  • scottdmscottdm Posts: 148
The reality is Pearl Jam wont get 50,000 to western springs. Springsteen didnt sell it out (and that was his first show ever in NZ) and the Rolling Stones took a while to sell it out. As much as I/We would like to think otherwise, Pearl Jam arent that popular.

Where they do sit though is alongside bands like Greenday and the Foo Fighters (in terms of popular appeal). Both band played 2 shows at vector (Greenday in December) and sold reasonably well. I suspect it will be the same with Pearl Jam this year.

It's hard to be objective when you're a big fan, what is their appeal like in NZ? I go by the fact they do well on The Rock and Hauraki. I just hope they haven't slipped off the radar too much here. "Pearl Who"?
  • scottdmscottdm Posts: 148
I think PJ have a loyal hard core of fans, but I would think its been diminished by both their time between albums and tours. If you compare to the foo fighters, who tour every 3 years, get their songs on every fucking radio station, then I would say PJ isnt as big in NZ.

Happy for the Kiwis, but it could be a while yet until we hear anything.

I'm on Facebook and have signed up to the Pearl Jam fans page and got a link the morning about the American tour dates. At the bottom it says:

Pearl Jam plans to tour Australia and New Zealand in November 2009. Full details on that leg of the tour will be announced in the coming weeks.

    Hey fellow Kiwi Jammers!

I'm heading over from Wellington to Seattle for the two shows on Sep 21 and 22. I've picked up 10C tickets for both nights, and am looking for a concert buddy. I've just rejoined and am on my third number, so it's fresh as.

Just thought I'd check in with the locals first before I start advertising on the Seattle threads. Any other Kiwis (or Aussies for that matter) feel spontaneously inspired for a pilgrimage?

  • Hey Kiwi Jammers
So i have been a fan of pearl jam since the mid 90s and are by far my favorite band and i have a few friends who can say the same. have seen them 3 times, brisbane and melbourne in 2006 and in florida in 08. all great shows and all opened by kings of leon, also a top band. the melbourne show at rod laver arena was the best. they have never been bad for me. but eddie vedder is a guy who feeds off the crowd and in turn the band follows. and that night was just mental. classic rockers like "Alive" face melting Solos "crazy mary" and emotional ballads. "thumbing my way". eddie polished off two bottles of red wine, smoked like a chimney and broke a handfull of tamborines and still never missed a beat. it was also the only concert i was completly sober for, which is saying something.......but im not sure what.

im living in vancouver at the moment and managed to score some tickets to see them in there home town seattle the birthplace of grunge. on 22nd 0f september. with ben harper opening so hopefully he will make a an apperance im thinking "dauaghter" or "Indifferance". hella syked for that. so that other dude who is going to the shows i would be so keen on the 21st concert aswell. if this suits let me know "loganwebby@gmail.com" its only a 3 hour drive from vancouver. ive got plenty of room at my place and a car. wouldn't be a bad trade for a ticket. just a thought. let me know

i cant believe there are only 70 NZ 10cc members, myself included. i always thought we had a pretty good fan base per capita. when i heard the rumour of the NZ tour i quikly told my fellow NZ PJ posse to sign up and secure tickets if they come. so any way as for these rumours does anyone have any suspected dates? because i would deffinatly be back for that if its around mid-late october. i guess ill just have to keep my ears to the ground.

keep it up team PJ aint been to NZ for over 12 years its def time for them to come and see us
    Fuck i love pearl Jam
    Eddie could turn me

AH the classic NZ thread is still alive! SO many threads its hard to fine the little gems for us Kiwis. Much anticipation and eventual dissapointment here last time round in 06.

Great to hear from those at the 95 and 98 gigs. I was front row at all three I went to and somehow managed to get picks at both 95 & 98. Was at Rock Werchter in 00 when they cancelled after Roskile and when Auckland 06 bombed went over to the two Brissie gigs.

So if this AMI rumour is true we may be looking at a real tour - if they do Chch I'd say Welly should be in the mix. Still if I was a gambling man I'd say Vector only.

Hopefully se you all in the front rows soon!!!

so how big is said vector??

if i come over to nz for a show or two i hope they dont sell in a mad rush ... means a better seat if 10c only seats the first show
