I think Stone and Jeff did some backcountry boarding in Alaska, so they know how incredible it is. For others, it's too cold, too far, too isolated...

    Mountains, ocean, wilderness, culture...
You're right, the north isn't that great. Don't go there.

If any band will go there, it will be these guys. It's just a matter of time.

    My attempt at satire failed.
I go to the Yukon once per year, and I'm moving up there next summer.

    I said,"for others..."

Don't tell everybody how great it is...they'll want to move there.

    Sorry.

I've flown down to the "lower 48" 4 times to see PJ. I think it's about time they return the favor. It's only a 2 hour hour plane flight from Seattle to Juneau. I think PJ would do good up here although they might have to include a bluegrass set in their show to appease the locals.
As far as other bands touring in Alaska; this state does get a fair amount of the early alternative "nostalgia" acts. Misfits, Violent Femmes, Presidents of the U.S.A., Everclear, Ween are just some of the most recent bands that have toured in Alaska. By tour I mean Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau.
Anyways, nice to see Alaska has stirred some interest. Thanks smokeabud.

What Alaska song could they put on their website?
"North To Alaska" by Johnny Horton of "The Battle Of New Orleans" fame, he was a '50's country singer. He is now singing in the choir divine.

Could play a benefit to support saving ANWR....damn, I loved Alaska, can't wait to go back...you have my vote

It can't be much colder than Alpine Valley '00 or Birmingham '03 (37 degrees with a stiff wind, 2nd coldest PJ show)

Good strong thread here. You know, Juneau is amazing, but logistically a little hard to get in and out of for a band requiring 4 to 5 semi loads of gear- especially since there is no roads in or out! On the other hand, some of the most beautiful days of my life have been in Alaska. If PJ needs a cause, there is always ANWAR...

I support the motion and raise you two salmon!

SMOKE - Glad to see the thread is still garnering attention. I had a dream about this the other night, no shit. Maybe something to share in a future post...

Logistically it wouldn't be too bad... they could use the ferry system, hit some towns in Southeast AK on their way to Anchorage. Fuck, why not have PJ play the summer solstice, a 2 hour acoustic set, 3 hour regular set, and encores til it gets dark!!!

Tis a federal crime to have green, but you're pretty hard pressed to get in to much trouble for having pot. Just don't get caught driving and don't have your shit in more than one container. 4 ounces dry and 5 plants growing by state law. Darkness that refuses to come in the summer... Mountains in the backdrop, ocean somewhere not far behind... PJ, break some more ground and get your asses up here!!!

BTW- Alaska is a great band if no one here has heard of them. You can't go wrong with Rust and Cyanide off of Emotions or Through the Years off of Rescue Through Tomahawk!

thanks everyone for the great replies.

heck yeah Animal i will continue to plug Pearl Jam in Alaska. for many reasons.

1 ) They never played here in the bands history. i've done a lot of research on this. the only gig they had planned back in 92 was canceled for unknown reasons.

2 ) They are Americas Band. & if they are Americas band then they should play Every State !

3 ) Logistics : getting into & out of Juneau is a bitch. but not so in Anchorage & or Fairbanks.

4 ) We are a Big State with a Small population. & doesn't PJ like to play small venues ? hint hint !

5 ) as to where & when . the middle of summer isnt recommend , the Mosquitoes willl eat us ALIVE ! But late summer into early fall , & we always have our state fair then & it is an awesome time to see an outdoor show. in the winter we do have the Carelson center here in Fairbanks .
theres nothing better then partying in the Midnight Sun :D ..

    peace

The perfect opener for PJ's first show in Alaska would be 1/2 Full...

Snowcapped mountains, torquoise rivers, and sandwiched in between Pearl Jam and EV slamming away, "The elemeeeeents they speak... to me".

THAT would be my 3 second moment of perfection! Keep the thread running folks... Cheers

Hey, I'm in. We love Alaska. My mother-in-law moved to Homer at age 73, not knowing a soul. It is without a doubt the most beautiful place. We've been all over, except the interior. Like others have said, the weather is more extreme in a lot of other places they have played, and the logistics of Hawaii do seem to be as, if not more, difficult. But hey, we do know how they like to surf, and I've seen people surfing in Homer. I wonder if they know that? Ok, so you have to wear a wetsuit. I also like the environmental angle. Definately need help on that issue.
