i disagree, and certainly not directed at people, especially people you don't even know. perhaps hate directed at hateful activities, ideas and concepts.....
    hate is definitly NOT necessary,
    sarcasm is...
    yet hating evil is necessary.

    Good to see you D2d.

Haha, no I'm not Old Hooky. I'm named after some carrots Ed Vedder threw from the stage at Finsbury Park in 1993. One hit me on the head.

Anyway, yes, about Allen, what bugs me are all these adjectives and adverbs , and over-long lines that neither show nor tell anything except that he's no Yeats when it comes to political symbolism.

Who would you say was a good "Condition of America" poet though, if such a thing exists?

I would say, Whitman and Frost. And even Bob Dylan: no one will ever convince me that popular lyrics (even with the repetitive refrain) isn't poetry.

Carl Sandburg and Allen Ginsburg are popular equivalents in different times of the american experience.

hate is just anger voiced. hate is better than violence. does hate beget violence? maybe, but that would be mongering hate. and we don't do that here (do we?), and there's know way in the world you can tell me you don't get angry and hate some things some times.

Those are three who immediately came to mind with me. Sure, Dylan is a great poet. After all, Homer's Iliad and Odyssey are songs.

There is a reason many Americans who travel abroad depart from Canada, and put the big ol mapple leaf on their stuff. The US and Canada are very similar in many aspects, including freedoms....yet Canadians are generally recieved better around the world...there is no arguing that.

I have to agree with you there, at least in Australia. I've heard Canadians being described as very similar in nature to Australians, which is probably why they are better recieved, as you said, here than Americans. Don't get me wrong we don't hate Americans, Australians are pretty good at judging an individual on their merits rather than where they came from, and some of the nicest people I have ever known have been American, but I think you summed it up just about perfectly when you said........."I do not hate Americans, but the overbaring "American Ego" can be frustrating."
BTW, IMO the tittle of this thread says enough..."f all you american haters"

Well I thought the title of the thread indicated what the thread was about too, but then suddenly it was about drugs and american indians and I didn't get the connection at all, that's why I ask what she meant for her original words to mean and instead of an answer I got a completely off topic rant. Well, it seemed off topic to me, maybe the answer is in there if I look close enough.

I don't believe that the antics of others - such as government - speak for an entire country. They are the front men but don't speak for everyone...............I have watched as others and been embarrased and disappointed by what our government leads us into. That does not stop my love of America and the versatility and beauty that can be found here also. Like anywhere else, there is good here also, not just bad. Peace & Love regardless of who/where you are... :)

I agree with this. Sometimes I am so embarrassed by the way that Australia is portrayed, either because of the descisions of our government or by small groups of racist people causing trouble, etc. Sometimes I am surprised at the extent of stupidity that some people have here, I am honestly shocked by some actions because I think an Australian wouldn't do that, but sure enough they do. But it doesn't stop me loving Australia, it just makes me realise that not everybody thinks like me and that I have to be less naive and realise bad things happen no matter where you live.

    pacifier,
I dont think theres anything to be embarrassed about. One person does not represent or believe in the same things that evryone else believes in....
Personally,I do nothing anymore but read, study, and breathe God,...whilst doing my work,
trying to get others' opinions on this topic...

My rant about the Fuck You thread was just to see how callous and irresponsible some Americans really are, and to see how patient some are.
To be honest with you,I could care less if these people decide to be immature and foolish toward me,someday they will learn when they die,
if they die, and enter the gates of Heaven ,or the fires of Hell.
And that's what that thread and this board help me do....:)
I would LOVE to see Austrailia someday, along with alot of other safe and Godly countries.
