america, you smoking bitch, as isn might say . . .

i'll tell you ali, central america is a smoking bitch for sure to a few northern americans. these guys, these furniture company execs that are down there to exploit, i'd definitely say they're american haters, and they are pretty hard to forgive, and i know; it's needed but it's tough when you hear them laughing about the jobs they've taken from their own fellow northern americans because there are laws that workers and unions have fought for and now they are cracking that whip on their own fellow central americans who don't have laws to protect them because they can . . . ha . . ha . . . ha . . . and the women the central american women they are something else real hot things according them. . . and ashes, ali, they fall out of the sky during the day time like rain, and it all smells like smoke down there, all of the time . . . reminds me of that midnight oil song . . . how can we sleep while their beds are burning . . .

american haters, you know, what exactly does that mean? it's a good title very interesting and workable

good start to a thread. someone could really go to town on the different meanings of that american haters

Youre both wrong, and a little too cynical.
Drugs are part of the Native American religion,a way that the Native American tribes worship God, and give them their name. That includes marijuana, cocaine, mescaline, and wearing hemp, etc.
It is a mighty blasphemous view to make fun of their situation.
and by saying "Fuck, you, fuck, you fuck you,"..That is sarcasm.
We are all equal, even you for us respecting your religion and reading what you write on this board.Thats something they don't teach in college.

Your doctors get their herbs and medications from plants all around this Earth,
and sometimes, codeine, which I believe is a derivitive from the cocoa family is used as a pain killer during surgury-even nowadays.
What I think you have to think about is WHY the "hippies" were using these drugs during a very devastating time during a war that killed thousands,as a pain numbing drug, for: various diseaeses brought back from other countries,
A ceremonial Native American reason of either death sympathy, and a reason
to numb pain from excessive use of violent acts.

So, the next time anyone takes their medication, wonder about where it comes from, and give your doctors a big thank you.

I don't know a whole lot about Native American culture, but what I do know was extremely admirable, but ultimately doomed to failure.

So is this about Indians or hippies or what??? It's not very clear. I thought it might have been something to do with the war against terrorism or even just a dislike towards people who don't like America.

Its all well and good to say that all people are equal, and I wish that was true, but we are not. Lets face it, there are many distinct arears/groups of people that will not have the same likelyhood of success or being treated the same as I am. I myself can honestly say that I give all equall oportunity, but I also realise that there are certain groups that will have a higher "less successful" rate. I am not trying to be rude, but yes people are generrally created equal; Unfortunately the society they are born into often dictates a great deal of their future.

No, Cate, not at all directed toward you.Just to people who don't quite seem
    to understand the movement,indirectly.

I DO not think that the Native Americans destroyed themselves, rather, they WERE NOT destroyed. The Native American Tribe is varied in numbers in the United States, with plenty of "mixed" blood throughout the population of people within the United States; However, the number of full-blooded Native
Americans is small, and I believe that is what the statistical error is on logistics. It is just as rare to find a descendent of pure blood from Alaska living in a non-native country or state. The fact is that most Native Americans
have scattered throughout the continent of North America and South America, due to the drifting and breaking up of the continents, millions of years ago-with blood-lines scattered through the regions.:)It's safe to say this culture and its' people are presumed safe because of the drifiting of the continental shelf.:)

I basically made that post and comment because I DO NOT want you to get the wrong information.I feel as though the "hippies" were trying to preserve and expand a culture that seemed to be dying at the time.Drugs used in life are extended to all of our homo-sapias classifications; The use of drugs, either medical,or,throughout the church, come from some sort of a "doctor", or "healer".

"Hippie" was just a technical term for the generation during a very horrible period of war,in of course where a large group of individuals chose to protest the war at the time, with various social implications, and I feel without these
free-spirited, liberal people to surpass the everyday monotany of just listening
to machine guns kill the people of the Earth, they decided to make a significant stand against the violence, and basically saved a generation,
with the culture in which stood behind them. That is the culture of the Native American Church.:)

DRugs ARE NOT wrong, inc. If you really believe in it,and you join the Native American Church of Canada, you can do it.It's just that those drugs are actually administered to you by your doctors,if you have a medical need.
Morphine is still used nowadays to perform in surguries, marijuana for eye problems, and caffine in everyday drinks. The first Coca~Cola was even made out of cocaine.

Well, obviously,we all are.We live in drug societies.
I guess its time for you to go into rehab and get stable on the levels,
of the drugs you have to take, which are meant for you, legally.
Now,if you are a legal drug addict, and you're doing what is proper to your religion, without: hurting anyone, being repectful of others, and not killing yourself, then you're alright.
If you choose to be on drugs which ARE NOT legal without being watched upon or monitored by the governmental agencies and doing what is proper to your religion and to the one of Te United States Of America or your country,
then you should be in rehab.

Ali, what was this about? Were those two lines meant to sum up something about drugs and american-indian culture? I've gotta say I got none of that. Can you explain where you were coming from in your writing, because it's completely gone over my head. Keep in mind we are not all american on here, so if there are some specific american references that only americans would understand could you explian them. thanks, because this whole thread seems a little bit crazy to me, you write about america haters and hippies and all of a sudden your talking about indians and drugs.

    From Howl

    by Allen Ginsberg
    For Carl Solomon

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked,

dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix,

angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to thestarry dynamo in the machinery of night,

who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of cold-water fiats 'doating across the tops of cities contemplating jazz,

who bared their brains to Heaven under the El and saw Mohammedan angels staggering on tenement roofs illuminated,

who passed through universities with radiant cool eyes hallucinating Arkansas and Blake-light tragedy among the scholars of war,

who were expelled from the academies for crazy & publishing obscene odes on the windows of the skull,

who cowered in unshaven rooms in underwear, burning their money in wastebaskets and listening to the Terror through the wall,

who got busted in their pubic beards returning through Laredo with a belt of marijuana for New York,

who ate fire in paint hotels or drank turpentine in Paradise Alley, death, or purgatoried their torsos night after night,

with dreams, with drugs, with waking nightmares, alcohol and cock and endless balls,

incomparable blind streets of shuddering cloud and lightning in the mind leaping toward poles of Canada & Paterson, illuminating all the motionless world of Time between,

Peyote solidities of halls, backyard green tree cemetery dawns, wine drunkenness over the rooftops, storefront boroughs of teahead joyride neon blinking traffic light, sun and moon and tree vibrations in the roaring winter dusks of Brooklyn, ashcan rantings and kind king light of mind,

who chained themselves to subways for the endless ride from Battery to holy Bronx on benzedrine until the noise of wheels and children brought them down shuddering mouth-wracked and battered bleak of brain all drained of brilliance in the drear light of Zoo,

who sank all night in submarine light of Bickford's floated out and sat through the stale beer afternoon in desolate Fugazzi's, I listening to the crack of doom on the hydrogen jukebox,

who talked continuously seventy hours from park to pad to bar to Bellevue to museum to the Brooklyn Bridge,

a lost battalion of platonic conversationalists jumping down the stoops off fire escapes off windowsills off Empire State out of the moon, yacketayakking screaming vomiting whispering facts and memories and anecdotes and eyeball kicks and shocks of hospitals and jails and wars,

whole intellects disgorged in total recall for seven days and nights with brilliant eyes, meat for the Synagogue cast on the pavement,

who vanished into nowhere Zen New Jersey leaving a trail of ambiguous picture postcards of Atlantic City Hall,

suffering Eastern sweats and Tangerian bone-grindings and migraines of China under junk-withdrawal in Newark's bleak furnished room,

who wandered around and around at midnight in the railroad yard wondering where to go, and went, leaving no broken hearts,

who lit cigarettes in boxcars boxcars boxcars racketing through snow toward lonesome farms in grandfather night,

who studied Plotinus Poe St. John of the Cross telepathy and bop kaballa because the cosmos instinctively vibrated at their feet in Kansas,

who loned it through the streets of Idaho seeking visionary indian angels,

    who were visionary indian angels,

who thought they were only mad when Baltimore gleamed in supernatural ecstasy,

who jumped in limousines with the Chinaman of Oklahoma on the impulse of winter midnight streetlight smalltown rain,

who lounged hungry and lonesome through Houston seeking jazz or sex or soup, and followed the brilliant Spaniard to converse about America and Eternity, a hopeless task, and so took ship to Africa,

who disappeared into the volcanoes of Mexico leaving behind nothing but the shadow of dungarees and the lava and ash of poetry scattered in fireplace Chicago,

who reappeared on the West Coast investigating the E.B.I. in beards and shorts with big pacifist eyes sexy in their dark skin passing out incomprehensible leaflets,

who burned cigarette holes in their arms protesting the narcotic tobacco haze of Capitalism . . .
