So what you're saying is... it's not worth buying?

So..... did you go out and buy it yesterday?? :D:D:D

EDIT: Should have read the whole thread! You answered the question! Now... another question... have you had time to digest EM?
  • yeah, i remember when that first record came out. i had hoped it was an album of stuff like "seasons" or "sunshower." it was a big suprise. cool record regardless, though i'd love to see a more acoustic record.
Well i think Sunshower could easily fit onto that record (as it should, because it was from those sessions basically, and it kicked ass live ;) ).

I listened to the whole thing once through, and a few songs twice, and so far I am very intruiged. I was worried after I heard "Can't Change Me" the first time... I am really not feeling that song... but standouts after one listen are Flutter Girl, Sweet Euphoria, Pillow of Your Bones and Steel Rain. I have to listen to it more, though. I'll get back to you.

But that damn "Original Fire" is stuck in my head constantly, and I only heard it once in full... and it's not the enjoyable kind of stuck-in-your-head music. It's more of the "get out of my head!" variety. Time to turn on Euphoria Morning to clear my head.

Whoa... definitely add Follow My Way to that list I just made. Wow.

  • You missed "When I'm Down", and the 2 best songs on the album "Preaching the end of the World" and "Wave Goodbye"!!!!!!!!

Yeah Can't Change Me is easily my least favorite on the album... it's gorgeous when it's just Chris on acoustic though.

I love Preaching The End of the World. It's so nostalgic :( Can't Change Me has a really nice rhythm to it. *thumbs up*

EM grows on you like crazy. ALL the songs will be on your list after a few 'listens' :D:D

All this talk of EM, I'll start my day with it and I'm putting it on RIGHT NOW!!

I actually have it on right now. It's raining outside and it just fits so well :(

I just love how he can say "I'm seeking a friend for the end of the world" , and I mean, look at the rest of the lyrics and it's kind of cheesy - and the reason it sounds amazing is because of his voice and delivery! Someone from songmeanings.net mentioned that Sunshower sounds greater than it really is, and I have to agree. Amazing, amazing delivery!

I mean... just imagine a pop balladeer singing those aforementioned songs. *shudder*

EM is just one of those albums I HAVE to listen to reasonably regularly. Chris' voice just carries me away.

And seen as I was having a Jeff Buckley discussion recently DOSW if you've only just got EM you may not know that Wave Goodbye is Chris' tribute to Jeff.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

Actually Brad Wilk isn't half as bad a drummer as you are saying he is. He tends to play it safer on record, but live he shows off a lot more. Check out this version of Bulls on parade live, fast forward to about the 4:25 mark if you don't wanna listen to the whole song, he kind of goes a bit schizo at that point and it is anything but average drumming to my ears. http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=CAEF2EE853824267

The thing is with Brad Wilk, he has a very different style to most hard rock drummers, and in my opinion his style very much complements Timmy C's basslines and the funkier (is that even a word?) aspects of Audioslave's music.

Please post it again the link expired and I really want to hear this.......

I'm personally a fan of Tom Morello (I know, you probably hate him, as most musicians do). He's no Slash, but he has a different style.

Even though I like Audioslave, I have to agree with you about Wilk, though. His drumming gets repetitive and boring noticeably fast, even for my untrained ears. I really think they'd be better without him, but I doubt that's ever going to happen.

It's strange that VR isn't putting out better music. You would think with the talent they have, they'd be able to kick some serious ass. I personally don't hate Contraband, but it's no better than average.

I like audioslave. I have a mild fondness for it. It is clearly in an entirely different league than PJ or any of several other greats and therefore suffers somewhat from "same but worse" symptome.... as in, why would I listen to them when I could listen to something that's pretty much the same, but (in my opinion) simply better?

that being said, I think the musicians in the band are nothing to complain about. I like Morello a lot, since he does have an inventive way of playing the guitar even if he is repetitive in his style (he is also a great riff writer.) The drums are extemely average, but have just enough taste to fit the songs well (you don't need outstanding musicians, ya know) and they jam really well together.

What dissapoints me most is Cornell's (seeming) complacency. It takes more than an awesome riff to make a song (in most cases.... :)) but the band seems content to simply lay down a track and realease it without trying to really craft it. The amount of music they have put out is kinda rediculous, I think they need to spend mroe time on quality and less on quantity. I am most surprised by Cornell here, since I think he has great songwriting potential, and really seems happy with what they are doing, even though it really doesn't seem like they are trying their hardest or doing their best.

Yeah that's what it's called, man if you haven't heard it yet, prepare yourself to be blown away - records like that don't come around very often.

After listening to it some more, Steel Rain is giving me chills. There is so much on this album, but I'm really trying to limit my intake (so-to-speak) of it so I don't grow bored with it.

I'm glad you guys talked me in to getting it. It's different from what I usually listen to, and I'm loving it.

Audioslave singer and songwriter Chris Cornell has made the theme song of the upcoming James Bond movie Casino Royale.

"I have written the new Bond theme song and I will perform it too", Cornell confessed to IS.

Production company hasn´t revealed yet the composer of the theme song, but Cornell revealed the thing for the first time while being interviewed by Ilta-Sanomat.

    - I haven´t seen the new Bond fully, because it is still being edited, but I have seen several clips of it. Absolutely amazing movie. Very different than earlier Bonds, said Cornell enthusiastically [sic].

Songs written by Chris Cornell have been heard during the years in several blockbusters as in Singles, Collateral Damage, Great Expectations and True Romance.

Casino Royale premieres in the US in November. Casino Royale is the 21st Bond movie, and it presents as a new James Bond British actor Daniel Craig.

This was copied from the Audioslaved forum. I gagged when I read this thing, I was thinking he would be in a stupid music video, wearing a stiff Varvatos coat, a hot chick around his arm. I would not be able to stop laughing.

This is the link to the Audioslaved thread. Warning before scrolling down - someone spoofed Chris using Photoshop. It might give you nightmares.

Please tell me it's a bad rumor. *gags further*
  • This is awesome and if we were to get more acoustic stuff like Sunshower I would be in heaven. I don't mind Audioslave but solo Chris would be awesome...:)
    The wind is blowing cold
Have we lost our way tonight?
Have we lost our hope to sorrow?

    Feels like were all alone
    Running further from what’s right
And there are no more heroes to follow

    So what are we becoming?
    Where did we go wrong?

Now that is some exciting news that I wasn't even expecting! I absoultely love his first solo album and think a second would be great! I just heard the new Audioslave single, "Original Fire", the other day and that's a groovy little tune... now all I need to do is hear that a Soundgarden and/or Temple of the Dog reunion is in the works and I can go completely insane!
