Overproduced? What the hell do you think he's been doing for the past 15 years? Tweaking the album art?
That's probably the main problem that I've got with the songs that I've heard so far. They've obviously been tinkered and tweaked so much for 15 years that they've lost...soul? Sounds pretentious but yeah, it's good to take time on an album but too long can be bad.
Although I'm only basing this on the leaks from June so who knows, the finished product may be better. I'm not really a GnR fan (just the hits) but it's still interesting to see this album finallt getting released.
umm i'm not totally sure. I was just going by what it says in this Rolling Stone article. In the first paragraph is where it says that Caram produced No Code.
Caram Costanzo was an assistant engineer...so technically he was involved in the production.

lol considering the song was written back in 1999, and played on a regular basis since 2000 or 2001, i dont think he was giving two shits about velvet revolver.
i have had most of this album for a while now.
this is close to the weakest song on it.
there is some really , really deep, poppy, and multi-layered stuff going on most of the songs.
its cool.
and dont forget, he has said that the "big guns" wont be on this album. he recorded 3.5 albums with the last full album to be released in 2012, and a e.p. to be released in 2013.
its the second album that is going to be the "one".

This was always my least favorite of all the leaked tracks over the years. Why it's a single is beyond me... I mean I don't hate it but it is now way overproduced.
I think it was chosen since its just a straight ahead rock song. I think there are way better songs but Madagascar and TWAT aren't going to go over well with people expecting Appetite part 2.
I think that song would actually fit in on one of the Illusion albums.

meh, its ok. not great, not terrible. I think "better" would have been a better single, pardon the pun. The thing is, and im sure it has been said before, after 13 years or whatever, it will NEVER live up to the hype.

I wonder which musicians are credited to the various songs on the album?
PBM
"We paced ourselves and we didn't rush through it and we tried to be as creative as our collective minds would let us be over some course of time instead of just trying to rush through a record"
Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Pink Floyd, Kiss)
Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, the Who, Stones and 100's more)
Mike Clink (original GNR)
Andy Wallace (Faith No More, Aerosmith, Prince, J Buckley plus 100's)
Sean Beava (M Manson, NIN)
And musicians by the 100's including Brian May, Dave Navarro, Seb Bach and many arrangers.
This is a disgrace to anything and everything that Guns N Roses once was. The fact that he still calls it GNR when he is the only original member is a joke. Without Slash, GNR cannot ad will not exist, no matter what name Axl puts on the front of this so called record. Axl is such an egomaniac it isnt eve funny - he postponed music for over a decade in favor of face lifts and after all this time he puts this garbage out and expects people to go crazy. The dude has alienated two of the greatest guitarists of this generation - when you are too fucked up in the head to make music with Buckethead ten what does that tell you?
man I can't wait for this album...havent listened to the single yet (besides the leaks)...decided I'm gonna try to detox myself of all the leaks/new stuff so maybe I'll enjoy the album even more ha

thanks... makes it easier than having to wait to hear it.
too many tracks. I think, it basically is the last leak of the song, just with more tracks. 1) new heavy drum used at the open and the close 2) new rhythm guitar in the verses over the original fluffy rhythm guitar (which I think fits better and shouldn't have been buried) and 3) an extra Axl.
That was what I heard just on the first listen, there might be more. You were right that the original drums were re-done too.
Frankly, I think the guy's nuts, the original leak was a nice (if nowhere near complete) piece of desert rock. How you go from what was basically a 2 1/2 riff song to this (the fluffy riff in the verses and the open riff which is the chorus except for the run of power chords on the way out) , I don't know, but that's why I'm not Axl.
If he's still adding tracks, I wonder how many Axls are singing in Madagascar now. That's the track I like the best of those I've heard, I hope he didn't botch it up with his OCD.

I actually like it when axl has 50,000 voice tracks (i.e. Pretty Tied Up). However, I wish the 'high pitched' axl was more prominent.
You're right about too many tracks though. there are way too many effects such as synth, bells, horns...crap like that going on during the verse. However, I LOVE the new guitar added to the verse (bumblefoot). It gives the song the swagger it needed.
As for the drums, i'm a little disappointed with the redoing of this. I really liked how the drumming was on the "demo." I like the sound/feel of this one, but not the beat.
I love the rhythm guitar that Ron added. This song has always been one of my least favorite but the final version is rocking. Axl's got at least 10 songs that are better than this though, so don't fret. It's So Easy was actually the fisrt single off AFD. It was probably a good move to lead things off with one of the weaker tracks. No matter what Axl put out it was going to get dissed anyway.
If you look at the album like it needs to justify the 13 years (or whatever) in production, you'll NEVER like it. You have to listen to it with an open ear like you would any other album.
I repeat, I like the song a lot. If I was expecting the best song I've ever heard in my life because of the long production, then I wouldn't like it. But you can't look at it that way, or you'll never be satisfied.
It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win
It was probably a good move to lead things off with one of the weaker tracks.
I didn't know that about It's So Easy...interesting.
I disagree with your stance about releasing a weaker track. Whatever relevancy terrestrial radio has these days, it still can make or break an album.
GNR are classic rock and mainstream rock staples, so if that audience doesn't like what they hear, sales could suffer.
Again, releasing the title track to keep the consistency of the name in the conscious of the consumer probably isn't a bad marketing decision either.

Axl's in it for the long haul. This isn't going to be one of those albums that fades away after a couple of singles. I predict that If The World will become a huge hit next Summer with all the people who hate GNR.
I am partial to GNR. With that said, I like it. I think roses voice sounds fine.

Yeah, but this isn't 1987...you can't get away with slow playing things anymore.
He's got the attention of the public and media...he has to keep that momentum going...otherwise, it's just another "comeback" album.
With so many options to garner our interest, one wrong move and it's on to the next thing.

Didn't Brendan O'Brien produce No Code??

THe booklet that will come with the album is going to be 100 pages.
Just the tip of the ballooning iceberg:
Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Pink Floyd, Kiss)
Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, the Who, Stones and 100's more)
Mike Clink (original GNR)
Andy Wallace (Faith No More, Aerosmith, Prince, J Buckley plus 100's)

This album will have a lot of people who hate on it, and it will have a lot of people who think it's the best thing since sliced bread
Either way - November 23rd, outside of a Best Buy - I will be there
Bring it on

I think these songs are/will be the 'Big Guns' that will change peoples opinions on where this album stands in the GNR archive.
