They are also one of the funniest bands I've seen live. Marty Crandall should do stand-up.
I will be there.....but what is the date and what is the venue.
February 10th at the Congress...on sale tomorrow at 10am. I'm trying to get some other Chicago PJ folks to go as well, maybe we'll see you there.

intodeep, where did you get a copy of Wincing? Lucky...I have the new single from iTunes, but that's it. I decided to order the vinyl from Sub Pop...they have a new thing where if you buy the vinyl, they give you a coupon for free mp3 download as well. Best of both worlds.

Very cool. My buddy got me a copy of Wincing back in October. I'm not sure how/where he got it. Maybe oink or one of those file sharing sites. Needless to say it is a leaked version. I'll be picking up the actual cd when it comes out. It is good both of their albums when i first heard them i did not love them and then when i went back i really dug them. I only had a couple songs like phatom limb jump out at me immediatly when i heard this one so i'm hoping for the same thing when i go back and listen to it this weekend after giving it a break it will floor me like the other two albums did :)

you are right about their live shows and the stand up comedy when i saw them a while back they were goofy and funny, not to mention the highest concentration of gorgeous girls i've ever seen at a show.

I am addicted to Sea Legs and Australia. Wincing the Night Away might end up being my favorite of the three albums, and that's saying something.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.
  • I saw them at Lollapalooza last year...gave kind of a lame show there. Their music is still great, though, which, I guess, is all that matters.

Yeah, the sound sucked. We were maybe 50 feet back and couldn't hear a thing. I enjoyed watching them play hackysack with the giant beachball though ;)
just got my tix for Chicago!!!!

  • Yeah, me too. Maybe I just wasn't close enough to the stage to really feel the vibe. In any case, Broken Social Scene totally stole the show. "Fuck the peppers" *clap, clap, clap*

I like them...never seen them though. I'm looking forward to the new album.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.
  • i've been listening to phantom limb about 5-10 times a day since it's debut on myspace. and i'm still not sick of it. probably my favorite band behind PJ. i wish i was going to see them in feb but with school and work i can't afford it or fit it into my schedule :(

this thread and talk from a bunch of my friends who love the band (along with liking what ive heard) inspired me to buy 'chutes too narrow' on itunes. my first reaction was that a lot of their stuff screams the beach boys.....which isn't a bad thing by any means. good album, and i'll be checking out their next.

ive been pleasantly surprised with snl's choice of musical guests these past couple years. chili peppers, pearl jam, beck, neil young, the shins, etc. not just your run-of-the-mill mtv slop all year long.

nice! I wasn't aware until now that it leaked :)

I just picked up tickets to the MPLS show...they put on a pretty solid live show, not all that energetic but they sound really quite amazing.

I like their music, but their set at the Sasquatch Festival was awful. I don't want to judge them based on that one show though. Maybe they were just having an off night.
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

how does it compare to 'oh, inverted world'? cos ive listened to that album a few times and it's good, but i dont see the hype. there's nothing really fantastic or mind-blowing on it. maybe chutes would do me better?

from what ive heard off their first album, it seems more "indie" to me, if that means anything. their second album is just a brilliant pop album altogether, with shades of the beach boys and other bands.....extremely catchy and a lot more upbeat than their first album, which still did have some good songs on it.
