I posted some irish folk songs in the war songs thread, they kill me every time along with a couple of others, Scarlett Ribbons...it turned up in a Tv programme and I was inconsolable.
i get teary typing about it, I can't go near some of that music when I'm low, even on a good day, Itll get to me. Also, Ave Maria, the Pavarotti version was my Grandma's favourite song. The day I finished my degree I felt crappy, was thinking about whether or not my Grandma would have known I'd got it or not. So me and the BF went to the cinema and got there really early. BEfore the film started, even before the adverts, Ave Maria starts playing out of the speakers. I know it was her telling me that she knew...
some days all songs are sad songs.
I'm going to check out that Nick Cave album asap, cheers
so, so sad. it's beautiful but it makes me want to cry
"Because your candle burns too bright
Well, I almost forgot it was twilight
Even if I think that you are right
Well, I'm tired of being down, I got no fight"
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"
I'll throw this in there:
Tramp the Dirt Down - Elvis Costello
Also, from the rich, deep mine of sad country songs:
The Walk - Sawyer Brown
Old Silver - Radney Foster
Alyssa Lies - Jason Michael Carrol (if you're a dad, this one will just crush you)
I know nashville stuff may not appeal to many here, but if you wanna sob there's plenty to choose from.
Oh man, I used to listen to Sawyer Brown all the time as a little kid with my dad. They're not really my cup of tea anymore, but The Walk is a good song. It was always my dad's favorite.
It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win
i disagree that Everybody Hurts is a sad song. IMO, it is about hope and inspiration and never giving up or in tothe the problems we may face. Yes, I am Dr. Phil.
your kidding right
that is the song most likey to make you want to jump off a bridge

dirtyT is right. a simple look at the lyrics will show you that. the theme of the song is hope.

"I sang "The Sound of Silence" in high school. It was a duet with this girl I had a crush on. And then she saw me at a party later on and I was really stoned, and she had nothing to do with me after that. Yeah, I guess I've always kind of crooned." - Matt Cameron on being asked about singing.
