Bands you feel you should like, but don't.

Those bands that people rave about, are clearly highly creditable and the sort of thing you expect to love........
...Then you buy an album by said band and no matter how much you try to dig it, you just can't get into it at all.
Here some bands i've brought album by but just can't like
Janes Addictions - Don't like perrys voice, some of the songs are directionless and way to long (do like 'Caught Stealing' though).
The Pixies - The odd good song, but way to much throw away crap.
Queens of the Stone Age - I just can't get into these at all.
Over to you.....

I don't feel I should like them though but a lot of people look surprised when I say I don't like them.
naděje umírá poslední
Eminem
Jay-Z
Puffy...whatever?!?
my family loves them (i live with two Pearl Jam/ Zeppelin/ Beatles/ Who fans)
and i'll sing along if i hear a tune on the radio but i just cant bring myself to listen to an album.
although i managed to watch Tommy in its entirety...wierd.
-Eddie Vedder
Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Mastadon - Get raved about. I have Leviathan and listening to it I know they are good, some truly stunning riffs, but just not enough melody for me. Prefer older metal like Metallica, Megadeth, Deftones where there is a at least some singing. Perhaps Im just getting soft in my 30s - but when I get home from work knackered I just cant deal with being screamed at. I am looking forward to seeing them support Tool though.
Death Cab - Dont particularly dislike them - Bought "Plans" and thought it was a bit forgettable
Angel and Airwaves - Not sure I was supposed to like them (had no interest in Blink 182) but was kind of expecting it to be good. I never admit I dont like stuff I buy, but Im fairly close with this.
Metallica - Man do they sound sucky to my ears. I think I just don't like the genre.
Jerry Cantrell's solo stuff - I'm waiting patiently for this to grow on me. Hasn't happened yet.

The Who (I haven't even heard much. 'Who Are You' put me right off even trying. It's just a very, very silly chorus.)
Smashing Pumpkins (I can sing like Billy Corgan, but I'm joking when I do it)
Rolling Stones (How is it that anyone thinks they're good? Why are they still around and still considered legendary? I really don't get it. My greatest fear for Pearl Jam is that they'll still be playing at that age.)
Tool (Now THIS is a band I SHOULD like. Their musicianship is amazing; I usually like their brand of melodic metal, but from them - well I find Maynard's voice pretty weak, and all their songs sound the same to me)
- the great Sir Leo Harrison
I like the Pumpkins, but that was great.

I totally agree with Metallica - I remember hearing 'Nothing Else Matters' and thinking it was just an incredibly cheap version of Pearl Jam.
- the great Sir Leo Harrison
It's annoying, though, cus the Pumpkins undeniably wrote great songs. But Corgan's voice grates.

plans is probly not a good starting point. it's an ok album, but they've done much better. however, they're definitely not everyone's cup of tea.
for me:
tool- not bad, but like someone said, all their songs sound pretty identical to me. i like the sound, but a little variety would be nice.
radiohead- i dont dislike them, but they are far from the second coming that everyone makes them out to be. ive found their last 3 albums to be pretty mediocre. im giving them a second chance for my gf though...
but above all...
SOUNDGARDEN- i dont get it, i never will. cornell's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me when he screams, like a boring drone when he doesn't. they've got some good songs, but i just dont understand why people worship this band. i can't listen to more than a song or two at a time.
Loads of my friends love them and tell me how great they are and how much of a lyrical genius morrisey is, but it is almost completely lost on me. I like a couple of their songs but never though they were anything special.
They have a song where the lyrics go something like 'If a ten ton truck, kills the both of us, then to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die'. Dont think its exactly like that but when i hear it, it sounds really stupid to me, far from genius anyway. That was one of the lyrics my friend pointed out to me when he was saying how great morrisey was and i was almost laughing.
2003- MSG 1 & 2
2006- Irving Plaza, Albany, NJ 1 & 2
2008- MSG 1 & 2
2008- EV NYC 2
Another one that I get grief for is Bob Marley. Sorry, I just can't do it.
And it's not that I feel that I "should" like them, it's just a lot of people ask me if i like those bands when they find out I'm a PJ freak. I see no similarities to any of those bands whatsoever and would rather die a slow, painful death than be subjected to their music.
This I have to agree with...They have a couple of great songs, but most of their stuff is bin worthy!
R.i.p. My Dad - May 28, 2007
R.i.p. Black Tail (cat) - Sept. 20, 2008
Same here... Just can't get into Radiohead either.. to avant garde for me..
and
TOOL.. my roommate loves tool.. They are kind of too dark for me though..
they never change every album sounds the same
So I have no problem with you not liking Metallica, but this statement makes no sense. Not only had Metallica been cutting records for a decade before this particular tune, and not only is this song is not an indicator of their overall sound, but it came out BEFORE Pearl Jam's debut...so how can it be a cheap version of a band that wasn't even around yet?
(Shawn Smith's official website, but not Thee Shawn Smith)
I understand why they have millions of fans, I just can't get into them. Same with Bruce Springsteen and U2. they're just not for me
you obviously have never heard their albums from the 80's

radiohead being one. i really like some songs but i really cant stand others.
jeff buckley is the other. after all they great stuff i heard about his music i really thought id like him. i was just wondering where the magic was when i listened to songs people said i should check out.
there are other bands that i dont like that seem popular and well respected but i dont feel like i should like them. but the above two i really thought id end up owning everything they ever released and then ended up never doing more than downloading songs.
The music's always good though. And the other half of the time, the lyrics are good as well.
Yeah, I thought I might get this response. I don't know which came first. I really don't care. All I know is that Pearl Jam far surpassed what Metallica ever tried to do. I just don't know why people hail Metallica; nothing to do with what came first.
Mud huts were humans' first dwelling places, but that doesn't mean cathedrals aren't more beautiful
- the great Sir Leo Harrison
Nirvana
Radiohead - way to much hype
Death Cab for Cutie - one of dumbest band names EVER!! and the music doesn't help at all
Oasis - How can anyone stand that asshole's voice?!
hehe, i have a live ep of theirs where the singer says that once he met barry manilow and when he told barry the name of his band barry told him they had to change it cos it was terrible.
everyone says these guys are great but i just don't get it....it sounds like pointless noise/random guys trying way too hard to be eccentric/hip
The name of that Smiths track is "There is a Light" and it's one of my faves. The way I interpret the song is that the man is so in love with the woman in this scenario, yet so afraid to even ask her out. Anything with her is better than not being with her.. even a horrible death. You had your lyrics correct.. the other line in there is 'If a double-decker bus crashes into us, to die by your side, well, the pleasure, the priviledge is mine." This song gets right down to the heart of me. Sorry to hear it doesn't grab you the same way. I actually prefer Neil Finn's cover of it on 7 Worlds Collide. Not that you are gonna run out and buy a cover of a song you hate lol.. but..
peace~
