Please stay on-topic. Everybody have their own taste of music, so do you. Please respect that. Music is a feeling and there is no wrong or right in music taste.
I haven't read the thread, but it seems to me that any list of the top 5 bands of all time that doesn't automatically include Led Zeppelin, The Beatles & The Rolling Stones should be thrown out immediately.
The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.

I'd have Zep and The Rolling Stones in my top ten, but I was choosing bands specifically for their greatness in innovation and radical originality. Captain Beefheart, for all his weirdness, has had an incalculable effect on punk and new wave; Hendrix's bands defined modern rock guitar music; Bob Dylan & The Band's performance at Newport '65 led the way for intelligent lyric-based rock and, well, The Beatles are The Beatles. The Stones are close behind but their output has always been somewhat uneven, albeit with the heights sublime. Zep for me were the biggest band of the 1970s but I'd argue politely that they were really at the centre rather than the vanguard of a heavy rock "movement" or generic trend.

why is that? Just because you like them doesn't mean I have to.
